I had a great stay at Axel Hotel Madrid. The room was spacious, elegant, and perfectly maintained. The classic details and large mirrors give the space a lot of character, and the freestanding bathtub adds a refined touch. The bed was very comfortable, making it easy to fully relax. Efficient service and a pleasant atmosphere throughout. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you so much.

Cons: I paid for upgrade - i was given the most basic room. The staff said i had the upgrade but that was not true. Lady at breakfast. Lovely. But did not listen to how i wanted my tea. She just gave me a glass full to the brim of warm water and the tea bag inside. Not a great way to start the morning. The food tasted like dish soap (all the fake bacon. The eggs. The glasses.... Tasted.as if soap had been left on them) the banging on the walls and doors by the rough cleaners. You can hear EVERYTHING from the rooms..

The location and the helpful staff were the best two things. The room we had was HUGE.

Cons: The toilet was in the room and it properly separated . This is awful. The curtains that divide the room provide annoyance with no benefit. The layout of kettle had no relation to plugs and so furniture needed to be moved around. (The first room (R5) we were given had no window to let in light and was accessed through a smoking area. It was dark, and the toilet was not separated from the bedroom properly. The bath water was brown. The staff were responsive and arranged for us to change rooms the next day when a good room was available)

Enviei uma mensagem para o booking falando do aniversário e perguntando o que eles tinham para oferecer na data específica, foi respondido para passar o e-mail pessoal , eu enviei e não tive mais retorno. Como não tive o retorno , marquei outras coisas especiais para fazer para ele. Pelo standard do hotel, que é o mesmo standard que passamos os últimos anos, achei que deixaram a desejar.

It was a great hotel, fantastic location and the staff were lovely. The room came equipped with everything you needed and was very spacious. We loved the sky bar and rooftop pool. Beautiful views of the city.

Cons: The bed was very firm and we didn't find that comfortable. The shower door didn't close properly, there was a slight gap so when you had a shower it leaked onto the floor.

The location and the boutique style decor. The hotel is within easy walking distance from the main galleries and museums. In the area are a wide range of bars and restaurants, and shopping options. It couldn't be more well located. The decor is modern, a bit gothic and fun. It is the opposite of corporate design. While it may not appeal to everyone, I enjoyed the funkiness of the decor.

Cons: The skybar was closed, understandably as it was a quiet season but I did enjoy the view from the rooftop.

Cons: The bathroom in my first room had a moldy ceiling, and during the night water started pouring out. They did however change my room to a different one (from 314 to 302) but the new one was too close to the elevators which you could hear. They did offer me a free drink in the bar the next day to make up for this though . I’d also like to note that I thought the noise complaints would be over rated, but the truth is that both rooms I had were to the indoor patio and at times this was noisy

Cons: Locale colazione freddo. Non abrebbero dovuto affittare la camera che ci han dato in quanto sapevano delle infiltrazioni di acqua dallo scarico della doccia del piano superiore, ci hanno spostato su richiesta in un'altra camera dove non era stato acceso il riscaldamento (27 dicembre). La ventola di riscaldamento l'abbiamo poi spenta per dormire a causa della.rumorosita', quindi la.notte e' stata frizzante. Per il.disguido ci hanno poi spostato l'indomani nella suite che si era liberata (grande ma stile classico rispetto alla paericolarita' delle camere)

Abbiamo soggiornato a Madrid per due notti e l’esperienza è stata nel complesso molto positiva. La posizione dell’hotel è davvero ottima: centralissima, comoda per visitare la città a piedi e ben collegata con tutti i mezzi pubblici. Il personale è stato gentile e disponibile fin dal nostro arrivo e abbiamo apprezzato molto il calice di vino di benvenuto, un dettaglio piacevole che ci ha fatto sentire accolte. All’ingresso dell’hotel c’è un bar: è piuttosto piccolo, ma molto grazioso e curato. Sotto l’hotel si trova un club, quindi il sabato sera c’era parecchia gente in zona, ma fortunatamente il rumore non ci ha disturbato durante la notte. La camera era spaziosa e confortevole, anche se la disposizione del bagno è un po’ particolare: non c’è un bagno tradizionale, il lavandino si trova all’ingresso sulla sinistra, la doccia è trasparente (aspetto che può risultare imbarazzante se non si viaggia in coppia) e il WC è separato. Un piccolo aspetto da segnalare riguarda l’arrivo in hotel con Uber: essendo in pieno centro, alcune strade vengono chiuse e l’accesso può risultare un po’ complicato, ma alla fine siamo riuscite comunque ad arrivare senza grossi problemi.

The hotel is in a great location, and we really appreciated being allowed both an early check-in and a late check-out, which made our stay much more convenient.

Cons: We experienced several issues during our stay. The TV in our room wasn’t working properly and kept turning off every five minutes for no reason. It took two replacements, and the problem was only resolved on the third day. We also had a faulty kettle that wouldn’t switch off, which felt quite unsafe. Although it was replaced, it was still concerning to have such equipment in the room. Additionally, while having drinks at the hotel bar on the ground floor, there was a very unpleasant smell that made the experience uncomfortable.

L’emplacement et l’accueil sont top. Même en saison basse et sans le RoofTop (Novembre) l’hôtel est animé et accueillant. La suite est juste magnifique, super bien décorée et agréable.

Cons: Quelques tout petits détails mais qui comparé à la prestation proposée sont insignifiants : la porte pour accéder à la chambre coince avec le sol, la baignoire n’est pas fixé donc impossible de s’assoir sur le rebord, et du fait il manque une assise dans la salle de bain.

Really good location, in the center, within walking distance to all the main sights. Hotel staff was friendly, but nothing unexpected.

Cons: The rooms layout was horrible, bathroom in front of the bed, no privacy, seethrough shower with a tiny black sheer curtain. Skybar in the rooftop was closed, gym was just a tiny room with 3 machines. The hotel lobby had this weird sewer-like smell, almost like there was a problem with the pipes.

La ubicación es excepcional muy centrica y con un metro cerca. El personal de rececpción y limpieza fueron exelentes y muy amables. El diseño del hotel es moderno y con mucho gusto.

Cons: La habitación 205 era pequeña y complicada de moverte ya que tenía un mueble bar de poco difícil uso en el medio. El lavabo tenia poca intimidad ya que estaba junto a una gran ventana que daba al patio interior dicha ventana no se podía cubrir con la cortina o por otro medio. Con lo que se me podía ver aseándome desde el gimnasio del hotel o las habitaciones vecinas.

Cons: Il nostro soggiorno all’Axel Hotel Madrid è stato ben al di sotto delle aspettative e totalmente inadatto a un hotel che si definisce a 4 stelle. Già al check-in abbiamo avuto la prima sorpresa: ci sono state richieste e registrate tutte le informazioni della carta di credito “nel caso non pagassimo eventuali consumazioni”. Una pratica che considero invasiva, poco professionale e assolutamente non in linea con gli standard di un hotel di questa categoria. Una volta entrati in camera, la delusione è stata ancora più grande: stanza minuscola (circa 10 m²), decisamente non corrispondente alla prenotazione fatta tramite Booking. La porta della doccia non si chiudeva, l’acqua invadeva metà della stanza, i telai erano gonfi per l’umidità, il riscaldamento completamente fuori uso e mancavano perfino le ciabatte, presenti invece nella descrizione della prenotazione. In generale, l’aspetto ricordava più una camera mal tenuta di un ostello piuttosto che quella di un 4 stelle. Abbiamo segnalato immediatamente la situazione alla reception, dove siamo stati accolti con un atteggiamento poco cortese e quasi infastidito, come se le nostre lamentele fossero fuori luogo, quando in realtà si trattava di problemi gravissimi per la struttura e per il prezzo pagato. Ci è stato promesso che tutto sarebbe stato risolto — promessa completamente disattesa. La sera abbiamo trovato solo un paio di ciabatte in più, nient’altro: né riscaldamento, né doccia sistemata. Il giorno successivo abbiamo nuovamente insistito e siamo rientrati la sera trovando la stessa situazione, identica. Solo dopo aver minacciato di contattare Booking e di aprire una segnalazione ufficiale hanno deciso di cambiarci la camera. La nuova stanza era chiaramente migliore e più grande, finalmente all’altezza di un 3 stelle — ma comunque lontana dall’idea di un 4 stelle per servizi, manutenzione e comfort. La pulizia giornaliera è stata molto superficiale, fatta frettolosamente, senza cura per i dettagli.

Cons: Absolut mieses Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Völlig überteuert für angeblich 4 Sterne. Fürchterliche Zimmer-Einrichtung. Dunkel, fast nur Schwarz, eng, klein, kein natürliches Licht, fast keine angemessene Ausstattung, keine Lobby (quasi nur ein zugiger Durchgang), deprimierende Gänge zu den Zimmern wegen grässlichem Licht. Man fühlte sich - mit Verlaub - beinahe wie im Puff. Wenig hilfsbereites Personal, da kein vorab Check-In möglich war und dann die zugesagten Zeit nicht eingehalten wurde. Sehr unangenehm Gäste, die zT ungezügeltes Verhalten zeigten/äußerten. Insgesamt: Für 2 Übernachtungen fast 1.000 Euro unter solchen Umständen gezahlt zu haben, reut es uns sehr, und wir haben vergleichbar schlechte Erfahrungen noch nie gemacht.

The hotel was very well located with easy access to various parts of the city. The room was very clean, I had requested a room on a high floor, and this was granted (thank you). The room was huge, it was almost like a 1 bedroom suite as the toilet and shower were separate to the sleeping/sitting area. The hotel is located in the LGBTQI area of Madrid, so it was perfect for my fiancée and I, and it granted a safe space. It is a hotel that markets for people of this community, which is wonderful to see. We didn't have breakfast, but you can take up this option. All in all, great hotel, great location, great room. I would consider this hotel again if I return to Madrid.

Cons: The bed was a bit hard as the mattress was quite firm, but other than that, nothing.

The hotel were able to provide a mattress topper from the second day onwards, (not sure why they aren’t already provided as standard) which was an improvement but the bed was still uncomfortable. Easily the worst bed I’ve experienced in a hotel, ever. The majority of staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, but there was one guy that was quite off for some reason, to the point of ignoring us every time we said hello.

6 night business trip and weekend. First time staying outside of Cheuca. I paid for the larger room in the newer section rear of hotel, they’re also the ambulant rooms. All staff were friendly and lovely with no issues. Mini bar was well stocked. It was great October weather so every afternoon was by pool in the glorious sunshine. The hotel Is hetro friendly but most of the guest seemed to be retired Dutch & Germans so. It quite the vibe I was expecting LOL The only BAD thing about this hotel is the room door numbers, a mannequin hand that stabs you as the door closes. I’m a body builder and had huge bruises for a week so take care. 😀 I would stay here again.

This is a good hotel especially if you want be close to a major tourist destination like Plaza Mayor which is only around a 10 minute walk away. There is also a metro stop a few minutes away ro the hotel as well.

There was minimal noise from the hallway and floor, and one night there was a street performer playing music, but overall quiet. Felt safe. Had a room safe for passports/valuables. Really liked the shower and the soap/shampoo/conditioner provided.

Cons: I wish it had space for leftovers in the mini bar fridge or a separate mini fridge, but we made it work. There were 2 towel hooks for the shower, but one was on the inside of the shower, which seemed odd.

Cons: Nous avons eu un problème de fuite dans notre douche à 1h30 du matin avec la douche de la chambre du dessus. La personne de service à l'accueil n'a pas voulu faire quelque chose, il fallait attendre le lendemain matin. Impossible de dormir avec ce bruit de gouttes d'eau qui tombent du plafond ! Mon mari s'est rendu lui même à la chambre du dessus et ils ont arrêté leur douche qui duraient depuis 1h30. La fuite s'est estompée petit à petit et nous avons pu nous rendormir. Le lendemain, on nous proposait une autre chambre !

Enjoy a weekend break at the Axel Hotel in Madrid. The Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. But our room was cramped and much smaller than we expected, given the price that we paid. However the room and bathroom were very clean. Our room window opened onto a central atrium which was quite noisy at times. The only real issue with our stay was the bed, which was much firmer than any other hotel that we’ve stayed at.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the Axel Hotel family for making my stay so wonderful, I organised a trip for my partner’s birthday in Madrid, I decided to stay in this hotel and what a surprise, they did not only offered top service, but an amazing upgrade to our room! One of the suites on the second floor!! I am really appreciative about this and definitely will start here again on my next visit to Madrid! Staff were lovely and friendly! Room was spotless , bed was comfy! Shower the most amazing I ever tried !! Recommend to stay here 100%! It was also very affordable for Madrid standards!

Cons: בחדר הרחצה הייתה בעיה הניקוז היה איטי עקב שיפוע חלש של הריצפה. היה צורך לעמוד בתוך המים בזמן המקלחת. החלפנו חדר עקב נזילה בכיור. שכחנו לקחת איתנו מכונת גילוח חשמלית שעלתה 109 דולאר. הודענו על כך מיידית אך המכונה לא נמצאה. השרברב שבא לתקן אמר שראה את המכונה אך השאירה באותו מקום במקום לדעתנו להביא לתשומת הצוות.

Cons: Les couleurs noir et le bleu sombre dominent partout dans l'hôtel. C'est un peu triste à mon goût et oppressant. Petit déjeuner sans intérêt dans des salles minuscules. La salle de bain et sanitaire donnent sur la chambre donc peu d'intimité à prévoir ! Le lit est très grand, mais quand votre partenaire bouge, vous bougez aussi, c'est vraiment dommage. Notre chambre donnant côté rue etait très mal isolée du bruit des voitures. Prévoir des bouchons d'oreilles. Bref, l'hôtel mériterait un sérieux coup de jeune pour coller à son époque.

Cons: בגלל שזה ברחוב ראשי שומעים בלילה הכל התעוררנו מלא מצפירות של משטרה ורעש של אופנועים. הצוות היה שרותי אבל לא נחמד. כל מה שביקשנו עשו אבל הרגשנו בחוסר שביעות רצון שלהם למשל כשביקשנו ביצת עין, עוד קפה וכו'. בארוחת בוקר אין כלל ירקות חיים.

L'emplacement de l'hôtel est très bien pour visiter le centre de Madrid et les musées. La chambre est spacieuse et confortable mais très sombre et sans lumière du jour directe.

Cons: Les serveurs au skybar sont assez peu aimables. L'ambiance est triste ce qui tranche par rapport au skybar Axel de Barcelone. Nous apprécions beaucoup le fait que l'hôtel soit héterofriendly mais la majorité de clients hétéros tue l'ambiance festive habituelle dans ce type de lieu.

Cons: La camera non chiudeva bene, dovevi sbatterla un po’ ma ho letto in altre recensioni che è un problema comune, peccato. Let me start by saying that the staff were wonderful and that the company does read the reviews which I applaud. The problem, for me anyway, was the hotel design itself. The corridors were very dark, gloomy and bare. This gloomy atmosphere continues with the room. The room is effectively a bathroom with a bed in it. The shower, sink and toilet are all in from of the bed. I don’t mind seeing / hearing my significant other shower or wash their hands but seeing, hearing and smelling someone use the bathroom is not something I like. The rooftop has a bar and quite a large pool along with a rooftop view. Many restaurants and bars in the area. Once again the staff and management were great.

L'emplacement très proche de la Plaza Mayor et de la Gran Via et donc du quartier Chueca à pied. Le personnel très agréable, et réactif à nos éventuelles demandes. La piscine en roof top, avec suffisamment de place pour s'installer et prendre un verre sous le soleil grâce au Sky Bar. La chambre (Bonne literie) et le calme régnait à notre étage et globalement dans l'hôtel. Le petit déjeuner buffet au top, tout y est même en fin de service et le personnel très réactif pour un café ou autre. En bref nous avons passé un super séjour pour une première fois dans un hôtel Axel où nous n'hésiterons pas à réserver en fonction de nos futurs voyages.

recently stayed at Axel Hotel Madrid, and overall, it was a mixed experience. The hotel is definitely showing its age. The carpet in my room was stained, there were cracks on the walls, and the beds were very hard, which made it uncomfortable to sleep. On top of that, the room’s telephone wasn’t working, which was frustrating. On the positive side, the staff was absolutely wonderful. Everyone I interacted with was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel itself is kept very clean and has a pleasant fragrance throughout, which made common areas and hallways feel fresh and well-maintained. In short, the service and cleanliness were great, but the rooms need some updating and more attention to comfort

We have stayed here multiple times. Two weeks ago we booked the hotel and got an email saying the pool would be closed, so we booked a different hotel. Today i asked if the pool was open. They told me the pool was open for over a week. I asked them multiple times through e-mail if the pool would be open to rebook but never got a respond. I told the young receptionist about it but she could not care less what a regular client thinks. Could not go to the pool. Very disapointed. Not coming back here.

City center was within walking distance, room was clean enough, smoking area in the mini garden of the hotel. Note for management: LGBT hotels are fun, I heard many good stories about Axel in Berlin, but please put yourself into LGBT person shoes and make the experience brilliant, not mediocre like it is now. You have enough space to transform hotel into something unforgettable, rather than having it booked 30percent capacity. If help needed, reach out to me, I have wild fantasy and imagination.

Cons: Marketed as an LGBT hotel not enough rainbow things were considered inside the rooms. Main one - toilet does not have sink, neither bidet inside it, so imagine being on the bottom side and cleaning yourself, how would you do it? Go into the room to fill your personal travel enema, then bringing it back to the toilet to use, and do it at least several times per use.. Room was a bit run down, some furniture had corners chipped or damaged by water, doors were hard to close, you had literally to push it hard. Once, after the city walk when came back to hotel found door of the room not to be fully closed, even though when leaving checked several times that they were indeed closed and locked, which means that either cleaning personnel or someone else was in the room and left it open so anyone can get it. Tried to talk with front desk about it, they told to see who was entering the last one they need to talk to their manager to get access to that information and promised to come back with information, but never did. That was really sad, even in such expensive hotel you can't feel safe about your belongings. Half of the stay the rooftop was closed, but had a chance to visit once it got open. Found barman to be really unpleasant to the customers, bought 2 glasses of wine with complementary coupon which i was given at check-in, first when i came barman was talking to some either worker or customer, so waited for 3-4 minutes without being given any eyes attention, but when he got free he didn't even come closer and started browsing his phone, i had to ask him if i can buy anything, after which i felt guilty on stealing his time, well but maybe that's nature of Spanish people versus Europeans and i'm exaggerating. Last but not least.. in such many stars hotel, you should not give your credit card for employee to manually save the information in case of property damage. They asked for my card and wrote down the numbers into computer.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à l’Axel Madrid. L’emplacement est idéal, l’architecture et le bâtiment sont superbes, et la chambre était confortable et bien équipée. No es nuestra primera vez en este hotel y nuestra experiencia siempre es muy agradable. Celebrabamos nuestro 9 aniversario en el hotel. Para nuestra sorpresa el equipo de Axel Madrid nos dejo una nota felicitandonos nuestro aniversario, además unos chocolates y una botella de champan. Son estos pequeños gestos los que marcan la diferencia. Lo único que resaltaría es que hacía calor en la habitación y el colchón esta vez nos resultó un poco incómodo se nos clavavan los hierros dle colchón pero no quisimos molestar a recepción, por lo que no les dijimos nada.

Just don’t! The staff were downright rude, the room was substandard - cracked sink, grout in shower peeling away. Plug socket pulled away from the wall with the plug. No complimentary water (we were told to drink from the tap in our room!), kettle had to be boiled on the floor next to socket or next to bed. Opening hours of bar and pool not as advertised in literature and poster in the lift (11am-12-am)and even when attending 15 minutes before actual closing (11pm)we couldn’t have a drink as the bar man was leaving at 11! This is supposed to be a 4⭐️hotel. There are plenty of lovely places elsewhere to spend your time and hard earned cash. Staff were not accommodating at all - clearly, the customer is not king or queen here!

I stayed here for my 50th birthday (4–8 August) and it was a disappointment from start to finish. Staff were unhelpful and even spoke about us in Spanish, assuming we wouldn’t understand — rude and unprofessional. The so-called “rooftop pool” is a narrow trench, the bar doesn’t open during its advertised hours (11am - 12am) and the air con (set to 19°C) never cooled the room. My room had a badly cracked basin (I note another review on here showing the same issue) peeling sealant in the shower, a broken and dangerous socket, and amenities so stingy they were laughable (one body lotion sample for two women for 5 days and two Nescafé sachets per day). There’s no atmosphere, no charm, and certainly nothing 4-star about it — except the price. One star for the location, nothing more. I’m genuinely baffled as to how anyone could even give this 2 stars. Edit I’ve previously posted but deleted as I wanted to clarify that I had told the hotel it was a special birthday and for clarity I didn’t ask for an upgrade and definitely didn’t receive one however the hotel have been dishonest about this. In fact the person in reception told us that there are different standards of room and ours was the basic room.
