L'emplacement

Great Medina location, interesting architecture, art works and general decor. The terraces were great for reading and wave watching. Breakfasts were varied and freshly prepared. Staff was pleasant and attentive

Cons: All was great, except there was no internet connection for 24 hours, likely caused by strong wind and not really the hotel's fault

We loved our stay! There's a "homy" feel to this property - it does truly feel like staying at home. It is beautiful decorated. The views from the balcony... Wow! Our favourite little stop in all Essaouira - when we felt like escaping the outside "chaos" we just went back and sat at the comfy cushions outside and enjoyed the ocean view in complete silence. The room was perfect - great shower, very comfy bed. No A/C but we didn't need it really. The staff was all very nice and made sure our stay was very pleasant. Breakfast was great too :) I miss this place already.

Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect!

Great views of the sea, though a shame that there was so much rubbish on the beach. In the medina area but quiet apart from a bit of early morning street noise. Friendly staff

Cons: A shame that no drinks or snacks available apart from breakfast - it would have been nice to relax on the outside terrace with a tea or juice. Water in room was not topped up.

The place is nice. Staying in the medina is always a good experience. Nice view on the ocean from the terrasse.

Cons: Unfortunately the pros & cons about an old house. It has it charm, however it needs to be well maintained. - mattress was too soft and cushion high/hard. Had back pain in the morning - water in the shower was not draining properly - toilet roll paper missing. - got 2 bottles of water when arrived and then the day after 1 bottle (0.25L) was removed as I stayed alone. That’s a bit too much to be honest… - Old building = rooms are not soundproof. Lots of noise coming from the street and other rooms. - Essaouira is a nice place to relax but if you’re counting on the WiFi for some obligations, forget about it. The place is small and has 5/6 wifis system where you need to be individually connected to all of them. In my room, even the WiFi did not work. No signal as well. Needed to get out the room each time. Apologies, it seems like a long lists of things that I didn’t like. Hoping these will be a reason to improve.

The location was great and the view from the room and the terrace excellent. The room was cleaned every day by a gentle lady, always asking if everything was good. She also made a tasting Moroccan breakfast. We got some more blankets to keep the coldness away when sleeping and after some days when the manager (French/English speaking) arrived, also a heating item trying to warm and dehumidify the air.

Cons: We came in January and expected some cold days. The pictures from the room shoved a fireplace, and that was one of the reasons we made our booking. Unfortunately the fireplace was not working, and the room was very cold with lots of humidity. We are not French speaking, so the communication with the staff was a bit difficult.

Our host was very attentive. He seemed genuinely interested in us and we enjoyed his company. The location was superb overlooking the Atlantic, the layout of the Riad was like a labtrinth - with little seating areas up and down every stairs and around every corner. There was fabulous art everywhere and amazing roof terraces. The bed was very comfortable, the bedlinen, towels, pillows etc were all fresh.

Cons: I knew what to expect from reading reviews before booking. It is true that the blue room was extremely dark, and that it smelled damp (like a castle or cave) but that was because it is very okd and it had recently rained. It was also true that the bathroom wss only slightly screened from the bedroom. I wasn't keen on any of this, but the overall place was so cool, I overcame my misgivings.

Dar Cherazade is very walkable to all tourist attractions. It’s only ten mins from the beach, 2 mins from rampants & about to to La Skala & the fishing port. You are right in the Medina. The property was very clean & quiet with beautiful views of the ocean. It is windy in essaouira but the beach side is a lot less & you can rent beach beds for 2.50€ pp for a full day on the first spot on the beach. Thanks to the staff & Imad for help with our bags & lovely breakfast & room cleaning.

A charming guest house with loads of character, but we were unaware that it was situated in the Medina. And also unaware of the multiple staircases to reach our room. Fabulous view of the ocean. But restaurant was not open and there was no access to drinks or snacks. Spa seemed to be closed. Found one nearby so all good. Breakfasts were fabulous, and any staff that we encountered (often none around) were lovely and helpful. Art in rooms was amazing and added to the atmosphere. Lots of excellent restaurants nearby. If you’re looking for a Moroccan experience, this place might be perfect for you! And I will repeat - all staff were lovely and helpful and we very much appreciated them!

Inchecken was moeizaam, omdat voordeur dicht zat. Meerdere keren hard aankloppen had geen effect. The spa was in a stunning location with amazing views over the sea from your rooftop terrace. The staff were excellent and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The rooms were cleaned every night and the place had a lovely homely feel you get from a Riad as apposed to a hotel which suited me. Younes was a friendly and helpful host and I enjoyed my stay there.

Cons: There weren’t many guests to chat to if you are travelling alone as it is essentially bed and breakfast. It was a little noisy at night at times in the street below... but I was early to bed so I didn’t mind.

The Riad is beautiful inside - really clean and very tastefully decorated. Amazing shared spaces where you can sit to chat, read, eat etc. (see photos) - the roof terrace has amazing uninterrupted views of the sea and you can hear the waves crashing from your bed. The rooms are comfy and clean with towels, toiletries provided. We had a twin room with en suite and then 2 interconnecting rooms with a double bed in one room and a single in the other with a little shared en suite. This was perfect for our family of 5, which includes 3 teenagers. The Medina is outside and is quite chaotic as they are, but the Riad is on a quiet street with a v good coffee shop opposite (see photo). You can't drive to the Riad as you have to walk through the streets and alleys of the Medina, which can be confusing when you first arrive - the best thing to do is to ask a man with a barrow to take your luggage and guide you there (we gave them 40 to 60 dirhams to do this). The breakfast was nice, the usual things - omelette, fresh OJ, bread, yoghurt, pancakes, honey, jam, bananas. The Riad is perfect for visiting Essaouira, especially if you want to stay within the Medina. The best food we had the whole time in Morocco (not just in Essaouira) was in Triskala just around the corner from the Riad.

Cons: Six of us had a hammam in the Riad, it was OK but not amazing for the price (900 dirham per couple) eg. the first couple did not have enough hot water and the massage table was not set up so they had to help with that (!) and the room for the massage was cold, the middle and last couple just had one masseur so ended up with a v short massage each where it is described as 30 min hammam and 30 min massage. The hot water ran out for the last couple. The hammam was clean and the staff were lovely but we were a bit disappointed, especially given the price (works out at £37.50 per person but for the hour you have a lot of waiting around as the woman attends to the other person so really you are only getting 15 min hammam and 15 min massage per person).

In summary, Dar Cherazade in Essaouira is more than just accommodation; it's a delightful haven where the combination of a fantastic location, hospitable host, and enchanting ambience creates an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable stay in this coastal paradise."

The location is perfect, near everything

Cons: The place is not well kept, broken furniture, our room was very dirty and worst of all the beds were full of bed bugs, we woke up covered in bug bites. There’s practically no staff around to receive you or help you with anything. The terrace which was what made us decide to stay here was not cozy or nice or well kept.

Our time at Dar Cherazade & Spa was made exceptional by the hospitality of our host. Her attentive and gracious service was the heart of our stay, setting a standard of warmth and comfort that was unparalleled. Her ability to make us feel not just welcomed, but truly special, was a gift that enriched our experience immeasurably. Room was a a great size however needs more furniture.

Cons: Needs a fire or radiator, nights were a bit cold.

The location was great - close to every major street of medina and the harbour. The view over the ocean from the top terrace was on spot as well and the area was quiet. Amazing breakfast - different every day and the staff was super helpful and nice.

Cons: The only thing to mention here is the dampness inside the room which must be due to the location.

The location and scenery from this hotel was amazing. It can’t be faulted anyway. The staff were also very welcoming and helpful. And attended to all our needs. the rooms were very clean and housekeeping was on point. And every room had a beautiful view, either out onto the seafront or onto the narrow traditional walkways of the old city. But I have to say the best thing I loved about staying in this hotel was the fact that right outside the front door was a beautiful little café.

Cons: The only fault I have with this hotel is that some of the rooms had a slight damp smell to it. Which when we confronted the manager we were assured that it was not damp, but a smell from the wooden roofs in the rooms.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel for three days, and I must say it was an absolute delight. The place itself was charming and cozy. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional service provided by the staff. I can't thank the manager, Younes, enough for ensuring that our stay was comfortable. His attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction were truly commendable. The calm and serene atmosphere of the hotel made it the perfect getaway, allowing me to unwind and relax fully. A special mention goes out to Auntie Saadia for the delicious breakfast she prepared each morning. Not only were her culinary skills impressive, but her warmth and sweetness truly brightened my day. Overall, my experience at this hotel was nothing short of amazing. From the stunning view to the impeccable service, it was a memorable stay that left me feeling rejuvenated and grateful.

Lovely lady welcoming us. Nice sounds of the waves. Good size room. Easy checking in and out plus special earlier breakfast due to flight time. Location is in the medina with easy access to restaurants and shops.

Cons: The building was hard to find deep within the medina through the alleys. This was difficult with luggage dragging through the cobbly busy souk. When we found the place doors were locked as if it was closed for a long time. Finally got inside into quiet dark chambers and up many flights of stairs which was difficult dragging up a large suitcase with no help and no reception welcome only lovely cleaning lady. The room was a good size, we booked sea front view which was nice to listen to the waves but couldn't see much due to glass being unclear. Does get cold at night and in the morning. Fridge was old and switched off. Bathroom was ok except for old stained bath. Overall was passable to stay for a night but pictures do not show it all. Personally found the atmosphere quite eerie and old. I wish I took pictures.

Located at the back of the walls it over looks the sea , yet the front opens into the small streets making it an ideal location. Shared and private terraces with lounge area. We had the family room at the top. Lovely lady doing the cooking and cleaning and host spoke excellent English. Lots of great art work and vintage furniture . We would happily stay again

We changed the room. The booked one (with two separate beds) was small and uncomfortable. The double-bed room was much better. The price was higher, but it was worth it. The rooms are relatively dark (little windows), but the space outside the room in the riad is comfy: sofas, terrace, etc. The hotel is clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We asked for an earlier breakfast, and we got it because we left early in the morning. The location is excellent, and the terrace offers unforgettable sunset views.

Cons: We recommend the owner insert towel racks (or rails) in the bathroom.

This property is in an excellent location in the medina of Essaouira. Walkable to all the main interest areas, including the ramparts, the beach, and the shopping and restaurant areas. Safe and quiet. While parts of the property unfortunately suffer from some of the inevitable mildew that can take hold in Essaouira, there are many different terraces and inner sitting rooms that one can lounge in quietly. The air from the ocean when the winds are milder is wonderful. Some rooms have sea views, as did ours, very beautiful. The decor is a bit funky and interesting with artistic touches all around and pieces I would have liked to know more about. The staff are sweet, very discreet, it is much like having a private place to live in, as we did for four days. Breakfast is very good, home cooked by the housekeeper who is a very nice lady.

Didn’t honor my reservation. I was stuck looking for a place at 6 pm on a Saturday night on my honeymoon. Staff was just worthless and laughing at the situation. The manager was unhelpful and complained to ME that he was losing money by double booking his hotel. ?? Horrible. Also the place is grimy and not very pretty when you see it in person. Stay literally anywhere else. It’s a dump.

Very nicely decorated and furnished, quirky, great shared areas including terraces, sitting rooms and breakfast room. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location with fantastic sea views.

We arrived at night and were tired and hungry. Upon arrival it can be difficult to actually find the Rhiad! But once through the doors it was magical. In the day the rhiad is in a great location, at night it does seem a bit off the beaten track, however once you get to know the area you are very grateful of the location as it’s so quiet, only the ocean. The staff were so kind and attentive. The breakfast was deliscious! Something different everyday. And we just loved the terraces. We stayed in the apartment which is perfect for a family as the kids can play safely outside and we could enjoy our evenings outside when they slept. Thank you for such a fun experience. Essauoira was simply perfect!

Cons: The apartment is a bit worn and the fridge doesn’t work (I think it’s for decor!) but non of this bothered us in the end. It has so much character.

The ocean view was amazing. The staff were very kind, especially the housekeeper. There are many cute and cozy looking common areas to congregate in. The breakfast was good.

Cons: The wifi didn’t extend throughout all areas. In my opinion, the photos for the property are very glamorized to make it look better than it is in person. Right against the ocean, that salty damp air means the property requires constant maintenance and upkeep to look its best. As other review(s) noted: damaged/chipped stairs. There was also exposed cord running across stairs, a major tripping hazard. There was some kind of maintenance work going on, including painting while I was there that was not disclosed on booking. Things were in disarray and messy. The toiletries provided are nominal at best: two inch stub of individual soap. dispenser in shower appeared non functional. No towel bar/hook or even tissue holder in bathroom. The worst part was the cat urine stench in the street this place is located. As a cat owner, shelter volunteer experience, and travel to multiple countries with large feral cat populations, I’ve never encountered a smell that bad. I understand the staff can’t control the street, but more needs to be done to prevent that smell from coming in, because it does come in. I was eating breakfast the first morning and mid-bite that stench hit suddenly. I looked over and the housekeeper had opened the street door to sweep the stoop. It was awful. For prices that were similar to what I was paying in Marrakesh and Fes for far superior accommodations, the facility was a disappointment. This place could be much better, but it needs a major investment in upkeep and maintenance.

Dar Cherazade is perfectly located in a quiet part of the medina. The views from the terasse are spectacular. Although there were other guests in the Dar, we seldomly saw or heard others, resulting in a peaceful stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Our door lock was broken but was fixed early the next morning. Highly recommended.

Cons: Although the Dar is located in a quiet part of the medina the path to there feels a bit run down, dark and dirty.

Beautiful location, right next to the Atlantic. The room was very nice with a touch of design. It is very humid so it smelled moldy and all things were soaked. Maybe a dehumidifier would be needed. Also, bathroom is only separated from the room with a design door but actually gives no privacy, which is a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast was good but Moroccan basic, bread, crepes, tea, jam etc. Staff was nice and helpful, especially since there was a problem with the card transaction and they helped by checking with the bank etc. Would recommend to pay in cash or to insert card in the POS, not contactless payment due to poor signal in the Medina.

The Dar Cherazade is a really nice accommodation in the heart of Essaouira - in a very quiet neighborhood just next to the coast. The hotel (very much a boutique style hotel) is beautifully decorated and impresses by a wonderful mix of authentic Moroccan and antique styles, combined with modern and artsy elements. It is also quite big and there a different floors, along with a nice terrace by the sea. Also the service was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple, yet fresh and tasty. Would always come back to this place and can definitely recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Essaouira.

Cons: The breakfast could be a bit more varied. Perhaps with some fresh fruit and yogurt.

The location on the coast was exceptional. I loved to hear the waves and seeing the ocean.

Cons: I have feeled like I’m in the storage for the old furniture. Everything was standing around for my opinion no system. Some of the pieces were old and brocken. I didn’t like the art, it looks strange for me. Everything need a renovation.

The view of the shoreline was amazing and the rooftop patio is an excellent place to relax and take it all in. This riad is away from the busy beach area, in a quiet place inside the medina. There is a quaint little Cafe just outside the riad door that has great coffee and pie that my kids thoroughly enjoyed. There is art hanging in every room which makes this place unique from all the other riads that we stayed while visiting Morocco. A true gem.

Cons: We needed two rooms for our family and it would be great if there was a space big enough for all of us to stay together. The shower water took a long time to get warm so we had to run the water for longer than I would have wanted, from a conservation perspective, this could be improved. Also, the addition of hooks in the bathroom would allow us to reuse our towels.

The room was a bit small compare to the others one, but we ask for 2 small bed, so try to avoid, very nice decor. The only window was in the toilet, the room a little dim for reading in bed. Breakfast was good and they should always serve more protein (egg and yogourt). We where there in Mars, a bit too windy to sit outside admiring the magnificent ocean view. Very friendly personnel. They should put a curtain in front of the shower to prevent the water to be in the room and they should add a heater like the others rooms to decrease the humidity.

The room was charming, very nice decor. Although the only window was in the toilet and the room a little dim there was a good bedside lamp so that you manage to read in bed. Breakfast was very good and served upstairs, where in the summer you can sit outside admiring the magnificent ocean view. Very friendly personnel. The only downside of my room was the noise from the street late at night. The window did not close properly and no doors between the room and the bathroom.

Staying in Dar Cherazade is a welcome relief from the busy markets of the old medina, Essaouira. Found this little gem tucked along side the medina remparts allocated North . Easy to find , with shops and restaurants near by . Neighbourhood is very friendly . Beautifully presented , airy & bright , what a delightful place to stay ! I was greeted with a Moroccan tea , management and staff , polite , very hospitable and very helpful . I was given a generous ensuite double bedroom . It was spotless throughout . The shower & the bed , a treat . There is plenty of space , the glass veranda is a delight , overlooking the ocean . Breakfast on the terrace watching the waves crashing on the beach or sunset gazing are irreplaceable ! One of my top secret escape in Essaouira !

Just off the main centre of Essaouira, this Gem of a hotel offered the perfect base from which to explore. Younes was a very accommodating, friendly host, and gave some great advice on what to see, where to go, and will do all the booking for you if required. So comfortable, so quiet, felt like home with all the comfort you want. And what a view of the sunset from the balcony! Amazing! 2 minutes walk from the souks, shops, cafés, and 5 minutes to the most perfect beach! Essaouira, the wind city, will make you want to go back again. It is windy, but this does not affect the warmth of the constant sunshine, the pristine beach, the shopping. If you want to experience the fabled souks of Marrakech but on a more manageable scale, don't look any further than this beautiful little city! Magical and special! Just go! Mark

Lovely hotel. Most friendly staff, real marrocans. Breakfast everyday slightly different and with a fantastic seasight. Perfect place to relax, especially after Marrakech 's madness Essouira is a perfect place to go. Only downside would be that the bathroom is not really separated from the room. Make sure you are okay with that, otherwise it might be better to book a room with shared bathroom (which is separated from the room, ofcourse).
