This place is truly a gem, an oasis of peace amidst the bustling city of Fez. The riad is exquisitely decorated and is filled with charming details. The lush courtyard provides a welcome escape from the city's hustle and bustle, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day exploring the medina. Its convenient location right at the entrance of the city makes it easy to find and access. Our room, named Berber, was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, featuring an additional bed downstairs to accommodate our teenage son. The staff is exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. You can expect a prompt response to any inquiries you may have, even prior to your arrival (and I had many!). We had an early check-out, and they graciously offered us breakfast at such an early hour (5:30 AM!), which was a lovely and unexpected gesture. Breakfast is both delicious and abundant, served in the serene courtyard, providing the ideal start to your day. The delightful Poulette enhances the experience with her lovely singing. I will certainly recommend this place to anyone planning to visit Fez, and I hope to return one day. Fun fact: the riad is listed in my trusted and loyal Lonely Planet from 20 years ago, when I first visited Morocco (but didn't make it to Fez at the time) and was positively reviewed and highly recommended even back then.

Amazing Riad.. a true architectural gem .. full of rich details . Our room felt like we were staying on something like a palace or one of the museums we had visited . But without the mustiness .. all very fresh and clean . Nice breakfast . Friendly staff . Good location close to one of the city wall doors . We stayed on the ground floor .. I believe our room was called Nejjarine … stunning .

Cons: We liked everything except that you can get lost easily in the Medina but that happens no matter where you stay . When we used the nearby door to get outside the city walls instead of the interior narrow alleyways we never got lost and a taxi can pick up and drop right there literally a minute walk from the Riad . Also we checked out the rooftop which had nice views and a few couches but the ambiance up there could be improved .

Exquisitely appointed suite (Serrafine) with traditional furniture and modern artworks. Gorgeous tilework, carved doors, carpets. A huge round copper bath you could almost swim in. The service was impeccable, gracious, 24/7. Beautiful communal courtyard where a good substantial breakfast was served. Situated on the edge of the medina in a suburban area, near a "gate" so great access to taxis, short walk to the action of the medina, quiet, safe neighbourhood.

We had a wonderful stay at this Riad in Fes. What stood out the most was the incredibly kind and helpful staff – you feel welcome and well taken care of from the very first moment. The interior courtyard is absolutely beautiful: very tastefully designed, peaceful, and full of charming details – a little oasis in the middle of the city. The rooms are simple but lovingly and thoughtfully decorated, creating a very pleasant and personal atmosphere. The location is also great – about a 10 to 15-minute walk to the old town. Breakfast was sufficient, though a bit too sweet for my taste – probably typical for the region. Still, a nice way to start the day. All in all, highly recommended!

This was my favorite riad of all the 7 I stayed while in Morocco. Everything was impeccable, from the styling of the riad and my room, to the service, to the best food I had and while in Morocco. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by lush greenery all over. There is a lovely parrot who adds to the environment with his lovely song and presence. It is obvious that the owner pays attention to detail. One can tire from the tajin and couscous, but not here! Take it from me and have dinner in the road at least once. The breakfast was traditional only with a twist as it wound change each day and we trying was delicious and homemade. My room was the Berber room and lovely decorated. I was able to do laundry here and it was nice coming “home” after a long day of walking and doing touristy things to see your laundry done and nicely folded. I also cannot speak enough about the service of the gentleman managing the road during the day. I forgot his name but he was exceptional and so patient with me during the frustrating moments of almost missing my tour to Chefchaouen and the misunderstanding with my booking. I cannot thank him enough.

Cons: Sadly, there was a mistake in my booking. I had booked three nights and the road only had me for two nights. As you can imagine, this would be devastating news for a solo female traveler during high season. There was a lot of back and forth and because they were already booked, the owner found me another lovely road for my third night. Thought I would have preferred my third night here, I was happy that a solution was found. They even took care of my dinner at their road that night. Also know that getting lost in Fes is inevitable! This riad was located on the border of the medina so walking to places seemed a bit far. I found google maps to have the worst service. It will take a couple of moments of getting lost to get used to the landmarks to get to and from the Riad

We had a most pleasant 4 night stay at Al Bartal. Our upstairs room was comfortable, quiet and tastefully decorated. Very nice accommodation with both tasteful decor and practical accessories. Generous spaces. All staff are friendly, have good manner, and are highly professional in hospitality. Breakfast is great, and the dinner worths a Michelin plague. One will never get bored settling into the couches at the rooftop terrace and enjoying the night sky. Lastly, we will miss our little friend, Poulette with her wonderful whistle tunes.

The Riad was exactly as pictured, with the plants flowing down from the second story and a parrot in the corner. The room was beautiful although a little dark even with all the lamps. Breakfast was yummy and the staff was attentive. The location is safe but about a 15 minute walk into the medina's central area, zig zagging through a quiet neighborhood. In January, they brought heat lamps to the table at breakfast and the room was plenty. The bathroom was good by western-standards; the shower had good water pressure!

Excellent service from arrival to departure. We were greeted with Turkish tea and seated in the courtyard while we completed our paperwork. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was stunning, spacious and had many authentic touches that felt like a Moroccan Riad. The bathroom was clean and had good hot water. The staff assisted with directions, taxi bookings and advised us not to attend a touristic pottery house, redirecting us to the appropriate place. The location was great for transport and Médina access. The breakfast was excellent too and they provided us with an early breakfast before our tour upon request at no additional charge. We would highly recommend this Riad.

Beautiful building, perfectly and finely restored: the patio is one of the most interesting I've seen in Morocco, full of various plant and amused by Pulet (a nice parrot, a plus!). Big, clean and cosy rooms, with very comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. Inside Medina, but outside caos, few steps away one of the entrance door to the ancient city. Various and aboundant breakfast and moreover the dinner, really deserve! (Trust the fantastic cook and accept the surprise menu based on the freshest products in the market). Last but not least: friendly, professional and really helpful staff (special thanks to Hassan that help us very effectively when we were in trouble). If you go to Fez, that is the place to stay!

Riad is amazing, the staff is superb. By far the best place I stayed in Marroco, and ever to be honest. It’s very affordable, particularly for what you get. I paid in Marrakesh 3 times more for a riad that was 1/3 of the quality (despite being very high rated). The place is beautiful, a lot of attention to the detail. The room was huge, comfortable and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The staff were very nice, helpful, efficient and kind. Always ready to help. The Riad is on of the extremes of the Medina (10min walk to the action). I always felt safe walking at night back to the Riad, but some feel may feel intimated by the maze. Cab is always an option. I highly recommend this place. Pick it, you won’t regret it.

Thank you to all at Riad Al Bartal for a fabulous stay. The people working at the hotel were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious as was the evening meal. We were a family of six with two eating a vegan diet. Nothing was too much trouble and the vegan options every day were perfect. The hotel arranged transfers to and from the airport and our day excursions to Ifrane and the Cedar Forest etc. Its not a one size fits all at Al Bartal, it feels very special. The hotel is in a great location on the edge of the Medina so it was peaceful and easy to find, with a great roof terrace. Thank you to Hamza and all at the Riad :))

Great communication and directions to the property. The parking is just across the street and costs 50 dh per day. The location is very central and steps to the Medina. The staff is amazing and very helpful in luggage management plus providing directions to the Medina and other attractions. We were upgraded to a suite and it was very spacious, clean and very comfortable. The air conditioning was very effective and since the Riad is on a quiet street, it was very quiet. The Riad is kept very well and tastefully decorated, maintaining the atmosphere of the days gone by. The breakfast was sumptuous with varied dishes daily and they were well prepared and presented. They have provided wifi repeaters for each room and we had good connectivity everywhere, even on the terrace where we spent an evening. The place was fully booked, which indicates its popularity.

The decor inside the Riad was dream-like. The room was very nicely decorated with Moroccan tiles and antiques everywhere. It felt like staying in a palace. The staff was great, especially Omar who shared the history of the Riad with us. Great breakfast spread. We were the only residents of the Riad in the couple of days we stayed there, so that added to the mystique of the place.

Cons: Modern amenities like a locker, a small refrigerator, a room telephone/reception were missing. We had to keep water bottles in the hotel refrigerator 2 floors below(it was 90/110 F in Fes). No lifts in the Riad (for that matter any Riad) so the climb was a minor turn-off.

Fantastic building, we had a huge room upstairs. We have seen a few nice Riads but this one was truly special. The breakfast was more on the sweet side but lots of jams, yoghurt, coffe tee, very fresh baguette a d eggs any style.

Cons: They have some reclining chairs in the opulently decorated room that has a black metal frame that is really hard to see. I hit my leg badly twice in the same spot quite badly. My mistake and easy to fix. That’s the only reason for a “9” in comfort. 😀

Lovely staff, beautiful setting and room. Great breakfast. We had dinner one night, which was tasty but we have had better for the price in Morocco. It's a short walk to the centre of the Medina and the location is quiet and secluded. Easy to access via taxi as half a block from a gate, so only a short walk with our luggage.

Cons: Nothing, it was a lovely stay

This Riad in the Medina of Fes is outstanding and has a magical atmosphere with a beautiful inner courtyard and a sunny patio. The service is excellent as well as the breakfast. We can also highly recommend the dinner. The staff was always helpful and really kind - just top notch. The room was very comfortable, large and clean. It is very centrally located so all the sights are in walking distance. We also felt really safe the whole time. I would highly recommend this riad to everyone visiting Fes and we will definitely come back one day.

Everything was very reasonably priced. An oasis in the medina, so peaceful and easy to find your way back to. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else and would absolutely return.

Cons: I wouldn’t change anything and I loved our stay The only thing that could have made it better would be a pool or spa but this beautiful riad didnt need it

Upon arrival, to my surprise, the room was spit between two floors bathroon in one & bedroom 20 plus upstairs flight. They offered me a so call suite for more but end up taking it for no additional charge. The place looks like an ancient museum but outdated with no real comfort in my suite. Excellent staff & outstanding service. Modest breakfast.

This riad was the best accommodation we had in Morocco (taking into account that we went to all the main cities of the country). Nothing could be compared with Riad Al Bartal. The Riad itself is so beautifully decorated, everything is made with a great taste. The room was big, comfortable, very nice and clean. The breakfast was the best and the biggest we had in Morocco in general. The personnel was super friendly and helped us every time before we even asked for that.

Beautiful riad 20 meters after the gate of the old city: easy access by car (a covered car park in front of the riad) and walking distance to all the places to see in the Medina. We were welcomed with the typical Moroccan the. The riad is very nice and there is a parrot singing the the main room. Room was clean. We strongly recommend having dinner at the riad: for 20 euro per person (drink excluded) they serve a full dinner with typical Moroccan dishes. The chef is amazing: every day something different and very creative! We can say that we had the best food of our trip in Morocco at this riad, definitely better that the restaurants. Very good breakfast! personnel is very welcoming and will help you with all you need, including booking taxis (fees are pre-defined and exposed at the reception) or activities and tours.

Everything about the Riad was amazing. The interior was stunning and beautifully decorated with Moroccan tiles, furniture, and artwork. Our room was comfortable and clean and also featured many beautiful decorations. We were welcomed with a delicious mint tea and biscuits. Behind an unassuming entrance is one of the most beautiful riads you could hope to visit. Riad Al Bartal is stunning and beautifully maintained by a very friendly and helpful group of staff. We stayed in the Sefferine family suite which was huge and very clean. The breakfast was exceptional, and I would recommend having dinner n the riad at least once as it's really delicious. And make sure you have a coffee on the amazing roof terrace! The location is also perfect -- in the medina so you can easily get to all the main sights, but on the edge so it remains quiet.

Cons: Our bathroom drains had a slight odour. I'm not sure how much the riad can do about this but it was noticeable from the adjoining room.

Experiencing the history and culture was enlightening and engaging the locals was fun. Be wary of the young men telling you you’re going the wrong way as a ruse to engage you in conversation, leading to offering to be your guide or simply to sell things. I’d recommend pre-booking a professional guide as it’ll save you getting lost. A good guide will take the stress out and give you a better understanding of the people and culture.

Riad Al Bartal is a gorgeous hotel with remarkable service. We could not have found a better place to stay in Fes. In advance of our arrival we worked with the staff to arrange a transfer from the bus station, dinner on our first night, and a guided tour the next morning, all of which ensured that our arrival was smooth and our first day enjoyable. The welcome tea and biscuits, along with the breakfast, were the best we’d received at any of the Riad’s in which we’d stayed during a two week tour through Morocco. Dinner was delicious. This, combined with a need to take it slow, led us to eat at the Riad all three nights and it was delightful. Above all we were impressed by the staff, all of whom were incredibly accommodating. Everyone, especially Omar, went out of their way to make us comfortable during our stay. We were truly sad to leave them when we departed Fes.

We had the most memorable time at Riad Al Bartal, where we stayed for 2 night. We loved everything about this Riad: * the location - very close to the outer wall where we could meet our driver/catch a taxi or walking distance inside the Medina to restaurant and the Blue gate * warm hospitality upon arrival (we came in late in the evening) that only became warmer and more caring as the time passed * delicious food - eggplant/beef tagine dinner that was awaiting for us upon arrival on the 1st night, abundant breakfast on both the mornings served on local Moroccan ceramic plates that is very unique to the city of Fes * amazing decor that made the place look and feel like we’re visiting a royal palace - with beds as comfortable as could possibly be, unique pieces of art, beautiful tiles, woodwork and plants everywhere * beautiful rooftop terrace that is so high it enables to see the whole city * owner’s bird Pauline that is out there singing all day and greeting people upon arrival But most of all - warm and welcoming host Omar with whom the place comes alive with love, local character and feeling of home. Thank you for having us! Well be back for sure - and will also recommend this place to all of our friends and family!

My family and I absolutely loved this riad. Omar greeted us so warmly with a fresh pot of mint tea and homemade biscuits when we arrived and left us to really soak in the beauty of the property for a few minutes. He then went over some recommended places to visit and helped us to our room. The halls are lined with cool antique pieces that are fun to admire. When we arrived in the room, our mouths dropped. The amount of detail in the accents and accessories that decorated the room were amazing. Our favorite piece being the huge bathtub that resembled a cooking pot. Breakfast was okay, just some bread, that delicious mint tea, and fresh orange juice. We had requested to have dinner that night and they prepared us a beautiful tangine dinner. We had an early flight the next morning and arranged for a car to take us. Omar kindly requested one for us and offered to have some biscuits and tea ready before our departure, despite it being at 3am. Overall, Omar really helped to make us feel like we were family as opposed to guests staying at a hotel and because of that and the amazing decor and feel, my family and I would definatly return and recommend this place to anyone staying in Fez.

Top of the line Riad, very well kept and nicely decorated. The 3 main reception staff were all friendly, attentive, helpful. Riad location is pretty ok, near parking areas if you are driving. Waling to the main Medina areas is about 15-20 minutes away. Riad staff can arrange airport and train station pickup. Breakfasts and one dinner we had there were acceptable and good. One other evening at the nearby more famous Fes spa and resort was quite bad in comparison. I do recommend this Riad for Fes.

Me and my husband stayed in this elegant riad for 9 nights (28th Dec till 6th Jan 2017). It is situated in Medina yet stone trough from Bab Ziat which means the taxi can get right to the door of riad unlike many other riads in Medina. It is also 10 min walk to Bab Bou Jeloud-the main gate to the Medina. The riad itself is beautiful and tastefully furnished, fitting its magnificent architecture. The roof garden with its comfortable furniture is excellent for sun-bathing or reading in peace. Our bed was comfortable the shower excellent and hot water always available. We ate in the riad every night as the chef Fatima is the best introduction to Moroccan cooking we have been previously to morocco and have eaten in various restaurants but non compared to Fatima’s cooking (also very reasonably priced). The staff are all friendly and helpful. As for the manager Omar what shall I say? He is a friendly and caring person, affluent in French and English language, knowledgeable about almost everything, a lover of his job and dedicated to helping the visitors. We recommend this friendly and comfortable and elegant riad.
