Wonderful atmosphere, huge bedroom with private terrace. All staff were exceptional. Food very good if a bit limited.
Cons: The plumbing was a bit suspect and the property needs perhaps a refresh. The distance to the city is a bit limiting; you need to really plan your day.

I stayed here 20 years ago, and it is still a stunningly beautiful building. It is quiet and tranquil, perfect place to escape but with a shuttle if you want to go Into Marrakesh. The Hammam is great also.
Cons: I first stayed here 20 years ago when it was 5 star and had a fabulous chef. Now the food was just adequate and only Moroccan in the evening, and not even croissants in the morning. The building is stunning but in dire need of investment. The staff, some were lovely and one was surly and told me off for speaking French.

CARAVAN SERAI is my favourite place to visit and spend time, the hotel facilities are exceptional, the staff are out of the world outstanding, this hotel deserves 5 golden stars and more. Have stayed here many years now and every time the experience has been even better. highly recommend this hotel. By far the greatest place to stay in Marrakesh.

We stayed here over 20 years ago and it was exceptional. Unfortunately this time it wasnât so good. We had to move rooms as there was no Wi-Fi in the room we had been given. The air conditioning in our new room didnât work, it was so hot at night as we couldnât open the doors or windows because of mosquitoes and there is no netting to stop them coming in. One of the beds was so hard my husband and I had to take it in turns to sleep in it. Needless to say we didnât sleep very well the whole stay. Last time we stayed the food was amazing, fresh salads, freshly squeezed strawberry and kiwi juice etc this time the food was average at best. We found a clump of cat hair in a salad we ordered for example. We found out that the management had changed some years ago and it just felt a bit run down and run into the ground now, such a shame as the building it self is beautiful. Disappointed and wonât be going back Iâm afraid!

- I loved our spacious room (a triple suite which was simply yet stunning decorated). - The entire property of the hotel is wonderful - a mix of rustic luxury, with a lovely garden (with Bougainvillea flowers, cats, turtles, pigeons), a nice pool (although the weather in late February did not allow swimming), and beautiful local wood decorations. It is heaven compared to the chaos in central Marrakech. - The food menu is short but all food is very tasty (tajine with prunes and beef was my favorite and my daughter loved the apple pie and the crepes at breakfast). - The hammam experience is a must. - Special thanks to the entire staff! We enjoyed our talks and learned many things about Moroccan life from our chats. Keep up the good work!
Cons: - As a woman, at the beginning I felt a bit unsafe walking in the area surrounding the hotel. But there were no incidents whatsoever. It was a Moroccan experience in itself. - We would have enjoyed more vegetables in the menu, especially at breakfast. But this is only a personal choice; the breakfast was generous and very tasty (although too many sweets for our taste).

This was our first night in Morocco and the place was absolutely breathtaking. We arrived in the dark and it just looked like a fairytale. It is very beautifully decorated. We were also very happy to have a good meal in this place where there is nothing around. We were very curious about the rest of the rooms and the manager took the time to show us some of them the next morning. All absolutely beautiful. Staff was very friendly as well. We had a great stay here and would definately recommend it for a beautiful experience.
Cons: Our room was on the side of the road so sometimes you would hear a motorbike or a car passing by.

The overall hospitality was fabulous - everything was great!
Cons: The only thing I could say is the place could have a slightly better approach to the property. As you're about to come close the property, you feel like the surroundings are not the great. But once you've checked-in, it is great! Also, this place hardly has access to public transport, but it was okay for us as we either had taxis or had rented a car.

This was our third time back to the beautiful & calm Caravan Serai. We stayed in the Beldi Suite which is a lovely 2-bedroom room with it's own pool and sun-deck area. It also has a separate walk-in wardrobe and bathroom with a separate WC. We love this room because you can relax together as a family instead of using the larger main pool, although that pool is beautiful as well. The building is an older building, so some people may say that cleaning is an issue, but personally I think it is part of the charm of an older building and I would say that the property is clean with the cleaning staff onsite very often. The property does seem to have lost of it's snugs and artwork compared to we were last there, but it was 8 years ago! The bird life and tortoises are lovely, and there is a pushy cat who will expect to be petted, but that all adds to the old world charm of staying in Morocco. The reception team are accommodating and arranged for a real wood fire to be lit on one of the nights we stayed, which was a nice touch...the house wine is reasonable and of good quality, it is a Morrocan wine, although I can't recall the exact name. It was nice to have a midnight swim and a sip of red wine whilst the stars shone and the family were asleep. The massages are great, and we had fun in the hammam which was nice to do as a family and it makes your skin feel so refreshed after, well worth doing early on in your trip. The hotel is about a 20min drive from the Medina, but for us, it is a quiet oasis of calm that we feel is our little secret. I'd recommend it for a few days relaxation, but not longer than that.
Cons: The food. We actually requested a local soup called 'Harrira' which was made for us by the chefs, it was beautiful. The cous cous is delicious as well. As for the rest of the food, it could do with improvement and variety, if only they'd showcase the delicacies of Morocco as opposed to trying to accommodate western tourists wanting a poor quality hamburger, they'd be on to a winner! Anyway, the food could be better, it's okay for a night or two but not longer than that. We went to the Mandarin Oriental one night and the food there was exceptional, and only as expensive as what you'd pay for a decent night out in London.

A lovely retreat. A great place to center yourself. I absolutely enjoyed my stay. Only one piece of advice to those considering this hotel. If you are planning to take advantage of spa treatments, I would call them in advance to make sure the spa will be open during your stay. The hotel staff are lovely and very welcoming.
Cons: Guests can be subjects of mosquito bites, depending on what room. Our room was infested with mosquito. Their needs to be more variety of food as they have a very limited menu. Finally, the property and facilities can do with some general update, that would be nice. Overall, I will say it's average.

The room was very large, felt like the size of an apartment. The outdoor pool area was equally spacious and very rustically beautiful. The hotel food was delicious, we had a chicken tagine for lunch which was great. Staff were also very helpful when it came to booking a range of activities.
Cons: It is quite remote and cabs weren't cheap which mean it can be expensive if you want to do a lot of activities in central Marrakesh. But considering this hotel was cheaper than some other options without private pool facilities the cost evened it self out.

We had a night at Carvan Serai as a stop in Marrakech. We loved it so much we spent a second night. It is like an oasis on the edge of Marrakech. The rooms are beautiful and every nook and cranny delivers a visual joy. The food and wine were top notch and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. After our motorcycle rental fell through they even helped us hire a car. Couldnât recommend highly enough. Thank you Caravan Serai.

This Riad is a wonderful place for anyone who does not want to stay in the heart of Marrakech. While it is roughly 25 minutes from the city centre, the Riad is absolutely worth the drive. The location is in an authentic local village with no touristic attractions around - which we found even more charming. Otherwise, the Riad has been very well designed to create a modern, cozy and comfortable place for its guests. The rooms had their original charm and so did the entire hotel. The service, food and everything else was absolutely worth the price we paid.
Cons: The only negative side of the hotel is the location. Since it is a very authentic area, in the night you can hear cats and dogs fighting loudly. We only stayed one night but we can imagine that this happens regularly which strongly disrupts the sleep. It is generally not the most quiet hotel due to the way the rooms are located and the animals which surround the place.

The staff were lovely. Friendly helpful chatty accomodating of our requests . Especially Hashim and Fouad at reception , Fouad at breakfast and Khalid who drove us around a few times . Most of the staff spoke English. The rooms and accomodation are is rustic rural style but also visibly old ( some cracks in the walls, old saggy sofas etc) but that doesnât take away from its charm. The Azaan/ call for prayer from a local mosque nearby at regular times adds to the Moroccan feel . The only downside was the location was far from the main tourist attractions, so had to go in a taxi to and fro but was also quieter than the centre . Maybe hiring a car would make it easier which we didnât . And loads of cute friendly cats everywhere in the hotel which our children loved. Breakfast was good -Freshly made In front of you -crepes and Moroccan flatbreads with boiled eggs cheese butter jam honey fruits and yoghurt. The restaurant food was not the best it was basic-although staff were lovely.
Cons: Location was a bit far from the centre -Medina , I think about 11 kms and a lil interior too. Our taxi driver from the airport when we landed at 11 pm ( long Qs at the airport and took 3 hours to get out ) struggled to find it but not the other taxi drivers. Restaurant food not great .

Caravan Serai was perfect for us. We were looking for a rest and a get away from it all and it served its purpose! It was charming and had an old traditional feel to it. The staff were lovely and friendly and helpful. We had a delightful New Year's eve there - such a lovely atmosphere and the fire was very welcome - it does cool down a bit in the evening in December/January. We didn't use the pool - a little too chilly - but it is very attractive. Breakfast was plentiful! Choice of breads, pancakes, tomatoes, olives, meat, eggs and fruit honey, coffee and mint tea. There were many cats there - all well looked after but they don't bother you if you are not fond of them. Had a gorgeous hamman spa there too
Cons: It's not really a didn't like - more a need to know! It is a little way out of Marrakech - about 15 minutes drive or so from the centre so you need to factor that in. However the hotel does have many drivers who can take you in and pick you up easily so that's not a problem and they know where they are going too. You need to factor this in to your budget. A taxi may have been cheaper but the hotel is located down some rather small unmade roads which on the first impression look difficult to find! Please don't be put off by this on arrival!

We were recommended to this hotel by a friend who has stayed here before. Itâs a special boutique house with traditional Moroccan architecture features, away from the chaos in downtown Marrakesh. We loved our room with a private pool - it was beautiful, peaceful and quiet. If you want to go into the old town MĂ©dina, itâs about 25 mins drive and the hotel has free shuttle bus at 10am and 6pm. Definitely a place to come back if we visit Marrakesh again.

Extremely disappointing Motel, not sure how they manage to get stars for this dump. For one you have to drive on an extremely bad dirt road. You have to cross the village's streets with open sewers into the middle of those streets. The motel is on the edge of a cliff with a dirt parking space in front of the Motel that fits 4 or 5 vehicles. The motel inside is extremely dusty and not well maintained. The room were rather furnaces. Although equipped with A/C, the A/C was very inefficient because the Windows and doors as well as their frames were not air tight and the AC units were small for the space they were supposed to cool off. The beds and the mattresses were of an extremely poor quality. They still use the spring mattresses and the spring beds of 1970's. Forget about a restful night for many reasons: too hot to sleep, bad mattress and bed, and when finally you started getting a wink at 4:00 am, the call for payer over a blaring old speaker will for sure spring you out of bed. The facility is designed to imulate an ancient village Riad, however they seem to have confused antiques for junk. Many items such as tables, doors and windows are an absolute junk, but they try to pass them for antique. The breakfast was very generous if you don't mind the hoards of flies that you know for sure they had their previous meals from the street's sewers.

Our stay was wonderful from start to finish. The staff were multi-lingual which made it easy to communicate. They were willing to help us set up a camel trek, shuttle us daily into the marketplace in the centre of Marrakesh and give us advice on how to handle ourselves when haggling for things in the market. We were even shuttled to a Moroccan Fantasy show one evening, which displayed the legend and folklore of this enchanted place through music and equestrian expertise. On Wednesday we explored the local village's weekly souk. This was an amazing experience, but we would not have done it without the escort of a staff member from the hotel. They made it a wonderful and exciting experience for us. (A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALI the hotel manager!) The hotel was clean and beautiful. Every evening the pool was lit by candle light. The gardens were beautiful both in the night and the day! The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed a private suite with a private pool (room number 1) and I highly recommend it if you are able to secure that particular room. It was worth every penny! We have already recommended this hotel to our friends, including a random stranger on the plane on our return trip. If you choose this hotel, you will not be sorry. Do be aware of the difficulty in driving back to the hotel if you are renting a car. The roads are really rough dirt roads. I would recommend using the hotel shuttle service for everything. Free shuttle to the market, low cost otherwise.

The hotel is fantastic, but the neighbourhood is not very nice. It is very difficult to find the hotel and at the end we ended up renting a car in order to drive into Marrakech. There is a bus service that is offered but we preferred to not depend on the bus schedule. We really enjoyed our stay and hope that the hotel will be able to have the road paved and better signs put up.

The positioning of the Hotel isn't fantastic, but to be honest once you enter the front door there is very little reason to leave the Hotel, they have everything you need there and the whole ambiance and overwhelmingly friendly staff means that you don't want to go anywhere else. The reason I went to Marrakesh was to relax after a very exhausting year and that is exactly what I did, from relaxing by the pool or in the gardens, to some of the best massages I have ever had, after just one week I was completely relaxed Mohammed the Operations Director could not do enough to help me during my stay, he arranged Mountain Bikes to be delivered to the Hotel, trips to the Atlas Mountains including a guide, bookings in some of the best restaurants, nothing was too much trouble
