Fabulous Rad and wonderful staff, the best stay on Morocco trip. The Riad is exceptional, lots of character, cosy and full of interesting items. Our bedroom was bliss. Lovely soaps, body lotions etc in the bathroom and snuggly robes to put on. A real treat. The staff are all lovely. Friendly, professional and super helpful. A big thank you!

The location was excellent. A short walk to all of the Medina. Right around the corner from the best restaurant in Tangier, The Morocco Club. The breakfast was amazing. The staff were awesome. The entire team looked after us very well and arranged tours and taxis for us. We cannot thank them enough. We would stay at the Dar Sultan every time we visit Tangier.

The location was very good and the view from the terrace was amazing. We enjoyed a very nice dinner on our first night. Staff were friendly and helpful

Cons: A very small room and a tiny bathroom. Mostly the same breakfast for the three days we stayed, Same cake and stewed fruit and the fresh fruit on our last day was some very tired grapes. Could improve variety and freshness. .

L'accoglienza ricevuta dallo staff è stata super.

Amazing property, Neat clean, center to everything and rooms were neat and clean.

Cons: There was an issue with the invoice, I paid fully in advance for everything and just when I was about to leave/checkout i was handed over a tax bill which was handwritten and was asked to pay in cash. I told them i can pay card but they kept insisting on cash. It was very dodgey situation after an argument of 10 mins, I told them I am leaving as my taxi is here and they took the handwritten bill back from me and walked away. It seemed like the staff wanted to skim me.

The hotel is very small, the staff very polite, present and service minded. Fantastic breakfast and staff overall. Our top room Charf would be ideal for honeymooners. Stairs are steep, and there are no elevators. Private terrace overlooking the city and harbor and I am sure on a clear day Gibraltar. Good wireless Internet access.

Cons: It can be hard to find, take a taxi or download Google map to your phone as there is poor cell service at street level. You can exit the harbour walk along the wall to the right, up the stairs, enter to the left through the wall, the immediate right through the tunnel follow the bend and then left, go straight and you will find it. Just keep in mind this is a locked door - knock using the door hammer. Rue Ahmed Ben Adjiba - Look for sign on the house wall.

The staff in the riad couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The rooms were cleaned daily. The breakfast on the terrace was superb. The location near the entrance to the Kasbah couldn't be bettered.

The staff and the hotel were amazing! We were greeted immediately and asked if we’d liked tea or coffee and we were brought out some local pastries. It was a much welcome, greeting, and reprieve after the trip on the ferry and walking with our luggage to the hotel. The room was beautifully decorated with very thoughtful details. We were loved water and treats for the evening in our room, along with chocolate, so our pillow. We were asked if we’d like anything in the evening and had some more tea. In the morning the breakfast was served on the patio upstairs and it was the most amazing spread. Everyone asked if we could they could get us anything else.

Cons: I really can’t think of anything.

Where to begin? We stayed in the Charf room up on the roof of the property. The views of the Strait of Gibraltar as well as the city were nothing short of SPECTACULAR!!! There are a good number of steps required to climb up there...but worth every one of them once you do! And everything else about Dar Sultan was just as good! Mohamed and Mustafa were like friends! And their efforts to help arrange for a day trip to Cap Spartel and Hercules' Cave made enjoying our visit so easy! Breakfast was also very good! Thanks to you all for making our three nights in Tangier such a memorable experience!

Very cute Riad, breakfast was delicious, staff was excellent-so friendly and ready to help. Location was great, close to the entry of the Kasbah and a quick walk to the Medina. We loved their two cats too!

Cons: Rooms were cosy but a little small. Our particular room faced an alley way that was very noisy at night- did not quiet down typically until 2 am (motor bikes, someone rolling a dumpster back and forth, people talking). Stairs are narrow- wasn’t an issue for us but may be for others.

The staff is very engaging and personable. They are very good at making their guests feel comfortable. The decorations are colorful and reflect the city. There is a beautiful view from the rooftop terrace where you can have breakfast. They prepared a special dinner for us one night that was the best one we had during our 4 day stay in Tangier. I have celiac disease and they were very careful in excluding gluten from my fabulous meals. The location is perfect in the heights above the fray of the port but close to beautiful views of the Strait of Gibraltar. It’s also just inside the Kasbah making it easy to find your way around from there.

Cons: There isn’t anything I did not like though the size of the room we had was on the cozy side

The Dar staff are amazing, the location is great and the ambiance is cosy. Good breakfasts too. Only downside is the super small showers (about 1/2m wide) but water pressure good and beds not as comfortable as they could be. We had panoramic sea view room and it was great but be warned you will walk 10 flights of steep narrow stairs to the top floor so not for anyone with health issues or bad knees!

Really beautiful property, artfully & eclectically decorated. Easy to find - very close to Kasbah gate. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived very late (after 11pm) due to a missing suitcase but were warmly greeted with mint tea. Great location and great staff. Safe neighborhood and easy to locate. Good breakfast. We were able to walk all over the Tangier Medina and surrounding areas by ourselves using the excellent map provided by the Riad and Google Maps. No need to hire a tour guide. There are 2 restaurants within a very short distance that serve alcohol if you want to have wine or something stronger with your dinner. We had the highest rooftop room with our own large rooftop terrace, and the views of the water and the city were simply stunning. We watched the sun set every night we were there.

Cons: The stairs going up and down were steep, narrow, and winding, so you had to watch your step. The lobby and small rooms were tastefully decorated, but seemed a bit cluttered, with little room to place your things. I am only 6 feet tall but had to duck my head to get into our room. The shower was so small there was just enough room to stand up straight and rotate. But all of this can happen in an old and historic Riad, so we understood.

A Magical Stay at Dar Sultan in Tangier Dar Sultan was truly the heart of our stay in Tangier, and we cannot recommend it enough. While Tangier itself is stunning, this charming boutique hotel made our visit even more special, to the point where we didn’t want to leave. The cozy, vibrant decor of Dar Sultan is mesmerizing. Every corner is uniquely adorned with beautiful Moroccan pieces, creating an authentic and captivating ambiance. Each room has its own personality, and we had the chance to explore other rooms during our stay—all equally stunning, colorful, and thoughtfully designed. Our room, Sharaf Roof, was a dream come true. It featured a private terrace with a breathtaking sea view, making it the perfect spot to relax and soak in the beauty of Tangier. The location of the hotel is also ideal, situated close to a parking lot for those renting a car. It felt very safe and convenient. Breakfast was an absolute highlight. It was included in our stay and was both delicious and heartwarming. Amal, who prepared the breakfast, treated us with such care and kindness—it felt like being looked after by a loving mom. I already miss her warmth! Ayoub, another wonderful member of the team, was a true gentleman, ensuring that everything was perfect and going out of his way to assist us. Nadia also treated us to an unforgettable Moroccan dish that was truly unique and authentic, something you won’t find anywhere else. A big thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special. Dar Sultan is a gem, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tangier. It’s a place full of heart, charm, and beauty that you’ll never forget.

Located in the old city, all the rooftop was mine :) great view. Authentic Moroccan spirit.

Cons: You can see the facilities (AC, shower, etc) was kind of retrofitted into the old layout, and feel a bit cramped.. There were some nice artistic touches all around the riad, but a bit too cluttered. Breakfast was good but needed SOMETHING to be put in the omlet such as cheese, veggies, etc. The workers tried to help when asked.

Cons: 1) had a nice dinner but was charged 63 euros for chicken tangine that had 2 chicken legs. Way overpriced. We didn't ask the price beforehand trusting the riad to be fair. The price was more than double what it would cost nearby. 2) I understand we are in a foreign country (I've traveled 95) but the lack of even a little English made the stay difficult. 3) we were on the 3rd floor and climbing the narrow stairs was not fun. The terrace was outside our room and was nice to have until others used it and made the room noisy.. It's where others would have breakfast. 4) the location was OK, but most of the shops and restaurants were quite a walk down hill then a climb back to the riad. 5) you can find a better riad for 1/2 the price. 6) we spent 10 nights in 4 different riads in Morocco. This was the smallest room we had.

This is an unusual hotel in its incredibly exotic and complex furnishings and decorations. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and go to great lengths to make guests comfortable. Manager Ismail is easy to communicate with and always available for questions and assistance. The breakfast, served when the weather permits on the terrace, is sumptuous and of very high quality. The location is quiet, at the top of the old part of Tangier, in a very pretty but not too complicated maze of narrow whitewashed clean streets. Overall a wonderful experience.

This property took us back to what seemed like another time. Warm, traditionally Arabic welcome with mint tea and sweets. Exceptionally attentive and personable service by our hosts (the former French naval Captain and his family). Exquisite "old Morocco" property within the Kasbah. A memorable stay in Tangier as a result.

The property was cozy and beautifully adorned with historical items. Each room was decorated differently in traditional styles. There is a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea from the top floor. A tasty breakfast was served every morning by the attentive staff and the owner was there to great us. It’s located in the Kasbah and surrounded by restaurants and shops. I hope I can return one day.

Both the Moroccan staff and the French owners were very friendly and helpful. We loved the traditional decoration and style of the establishment. The breakfast was light, but tasty and sufficient with good local produce. The hotel is located in a lovely area at the top of the old town, but be aware you will have to walk to get to it as the lanes are very narrow and not suitable for car transport (taxis will drop you off a couple of minutes away). Amazing views from the top terrace. One evening the owner arranged for us to have a complimentary drink in front of the fire place. On our last day we found presents on our beds (local soaps and traditional teapot handle covers), a very nice touch indeed. As cat owners we were also very fond of the two rescued cats that have a home in the hotel. One of them was particularly affectionate. +++

Cons: Nothing, really.

We stayed 4 nights in February 2024 at Dar Sultan, Old Medina, Tangier, having arrived from a 3 night stay in Chefchaouen “The Blue City” - 2 hours south and highly recommended. Our room “Malabata” was on one of the upper floors and adjacent to the outdoor garden space which we enjoyed many times during our stay. Be aware this public area is immediately adjacent to Malabata front door and windows, so this could be an issue to consider in warmer weather and longer evenings , if fellow guests are enjoying late night drinks. It wasn’t an issue for us at all & it made what was a “compact” room feel much more spacious. The Dar Sultan is a beautiful building and filled with many items of historic interest, but what makes it so special are the wonderful staff - absolutely first class and so welcoming…..nothing was too much trouble and if we are ever back in Tangier, that is where we’ll stay again. We were given many recommendations and if you are after a high quality dining experience (at reasonable prices) then try El Morocco Club, which is only 2 minutes away. That same establishment runs a cafe in the adjacent square during the day and that was equally excellent. For a lower cost Italian style meal, turn right out of the El Morocco Club and and a few hundred metres in front of you is a white building (with great views) serving the best pasta my partner says she has ever had.

Cons: Be aware the staircases are narrow and steep, so if you have mobility issues, it may not be suitable for you. We are both in our late 60’s and no problems…..other than accepting the offer to bring our cases down for us on departure!

Extremely cute Riad in Tangier. The staff are very kind and helpful. The night manager specifically (unfortunately his name escapes me) was extremely kind. My partner and I came back at 10:30pm last night and wanted to have some tea. I figured he would just boil some water for us however he took the time to prepare an entire tray with teapot and sweets and carried it to the rooftop for us to enjoy, truly above and beyond. Also, the breakfast is delightful.

When you first arrive you’re greeted with smiles and mint tea on the terrace. When we arrived to our room, the Malabata room, we first noticed the attention to detail which was incredible; between the decoration, daily Moroccan sweets and bottled water to the meticulous level of cleaning, everything about Dar Sultan has been thoroughly thought through. All the staff, particularly the hostess whose name I didn’t catch, Yazid, and Ismael, are fantastic, taking time to help you out with anything graciously. They helped me with my Arabic, even teaching me a few extra words which for anyone who has tried to learn a second language, is hugely appreciated. We can’t recommend Dar Sultan enough.

Cons: I’d love the offer of alternative milks like soy and oat when taking coffee, but absolutely everything else was perfect.

You will need to know what is important to you when choosing this hotel. Our room did not have AC, but it was not too hot, and they gave us a fan as soon as we asked. However, that meant that the windows were open, and the seagulls were just relentless. That said, the owners and staff are some of the warmest people that I have met. They arranged our taxis, found a last-minute FANTASTIC guide for us when our tour got canceled, and in all were just delightful. The breakfast is unbelievable. The resident cats are not intrusive. It was a great stay. AC would have made it perfect.

Beautiful riad in the kasbah, gorgeous decor, breakfast was amazing and served on the rooftop terrace outside our room, with a view of the Tangier bay by day, and city lights at night. Staff were very friendly, room very clean, loved our stay!

Cons: Two small things - the shower was tiny and my boyfriend couldn’t really fit in it, water went everywhere when he showered. Think that’s part of staying in an old building though - it can’t really be changed. Also the A/C unit leaked badly during the night, it’s in the closet and the hangers and our suitcases were soaked. We didn’t use it the other two nights, luckily it was cool enough that we didn’t really need it.

There's a lot to like about Dar Sultan - an excellent and quiet location in the Kasbah, convenient for exploring the Medina on foot, great views from the rooftop, rooms have a lot of charm and character. We really enjoyed the Charf room and found it was well worth the additional cost - the private patio was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the view. Breakfast was fresh and very good.

Cons: Unfortunately, there seemed to be some staffing issues during our stay. There were different staff on duty at different times, some of whom were a bit difficult to communicate with and we weren't sure if our requests regarding checkout and transportation at the end of our stay were being understood and communicated to the other staff. But the biggest issue was that guests aren't given a key to the building or a contact phone, and even though we were told that staff would be on site 24/7, this wasn't the case and three different times we arrived and found no one there to let us in - the last night returning late after dinner we and another couple had to wait in the alley after dark close to a half hour before someone arrived to unlock the door. This is really unacceptable, especially at this price range, and really too bad as everything else about this place is very nice. Also of note, some reviewers indicated that dinner was offered in the hotel, but this wasn't offered during our stay.

We loved Dar Sultan! The owner & staff were very friendly & helpful. Ismail & Yasmine were very good & always paid extra attention to our needs. The included breakfast was excellent & consisted of several delicious courses & coffee. The decor was charming & we enjoyed our stay;

Cons: Avoid any association with Karma Pateo who waits at the taxi drops off for the Dar Sultan & claims to work for them. We hired him as our guide for the afternoon, asking to go to the marketplace to buy shoes & A wallet. Instead he took us to a Berber rug store where the owner pulled out 20 rugs of the thousands in the huge building. We did not need or want a rug. Next he took us to an herbalist who sold us very expensive spices which we later found out are available for 2/3's of the price all over the city. Finally to a scarf store where we bought a couple just to get out of there. We told Karin we hadn't eaten all day so he finally took us to a restaurant which appeared to be closed & the owner chose a meal for us which was actually very good, but again no choice. We told Karin we wanted to go back to our room & he finally showed us the way back. This was our introduction to Tangier which is full of confusing streets on first glance. A day wasted!

This indeed is a very old house in the Casbah of the Medina - the oldest part of the town. They have transformed it into what we would call in the US a bed and breakfast. The decorations are awesome with little things to look at all around. There were many people that worked there and they were so helpful and concerned about our every need. When we arrived all tired from the trip they immediately offered us tea on the roof deck and that was so comforting.

Cons: Be aware as this is in the part of the old city where you cannot drive to. It is a short two minute walk if you get a taxi from where you get dropped off to the hotel, if the taxi knows the right place. If not it is a five minute walk straight up the hill!

When in Morocco, stay like the Moroccans do. Dar Sultan is a Riad, a traditional Moroccan-style house located in Tangier’s Kasbah, narrow but 5 stories high. All rooms have private bathrooms, 4 open to the courtyard the remaining 2 are located on the rooftop and have their own private terrace with spectacular views of Tangier and both, the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. I came across this 6-room Riad while doing research online. All questions were answered quickly and precise and the staff assisted me with transfers and a local guide. Staying at the Dar Sultan has nothing in common with an overnight at a hotel. You get a feeling of coming home, returning to a familiar site. The Riad is cozy with super-friendly and helpful staff, sparkling clean and well appointed rooms, fast Internet and a breakfast to die for. Massages are also available. I opted for the “Malabata” room, one of the 2 rooms located on the rooftop. Having breakfast while the sun comes up over the Mediterranean or enjoying an afternoon mint tea on my terrace is certainly something to remember. A real highlight was meeting Jean-Pierre, the French owner, who spent most of the 60s & 70s in the French Navy while stationed in Tahiti. I got to see black & white photos from when he met Marlon Brando while he was filming “Mutiny on the Bounty”. Jean-Pierre put all his heart into this Moroccan jewel of a Riad.

A charming place with a personal touch right in the heart of the medina. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The rooftop garden was a real treat and the location was perfect - close to restaurants, bars and many sights. The rooms were small but beautifully decorated in a traditional style. While the riad was in the medina, it was still quite easy to find convenient parking in Rue de la Kasbah, just a few steps away. We also loved the two resident cats, one of which accompanied us during breakfasts ;-)

Cons: The air conditiong was rather moody and tricky to set up. Both the air con and the heater in the bathroom were quite dusty. There was some mould in the bathroom, but nothing too serious.

A wonderful, beautifully decorated property with incredible views of the bay and Tangier. We had a terrific 3-night stay and must report that the staff is magnificent. Breakfast on our terrace was luxurious and truly great. The Dar Sultan is very close to a large selection of shops and small restaurants as you walk down the steep hill toward the Grand Socco. If the daunting hills are too much, it's easy to reach by taxi! It is well located, too, for a lovely walk along the Corniche. Highly, highly recommended. Location, service with a smile...and that breakfast!

Cons: Everything was fine.

Dar Sultan is located at the top of the old part of town, very close to a viewpoint overlooking the port and the bay. From there you can walk to the medina and the beach. There are many options for food within a few minutes' walk. The area is calm and the breakfast very good, served on the terrace. The staff were wonderful.

So exotic and Moroccan! The decor was fabulous! We had the room on the terrace level. Roomy, comfortable, able to step out the door to the beautiful, plant filled terrace. Lots of steep stairs up, to be aware of. Breakfast plentiful and delicious! We loved it and highly recommend!

This was the most a stay has ever exceeded my expectations. We were treated with incredible kindness and generosity that went above and beyond. I’m gluten free and dairy free and they went out and purchased specific products for my breakfast! Then, they sent me away with the items I didn’t eat so that I would have foods I could eat for the rest of my trip. One of them recommended an amazing restaurant and even walked us all the way there perhaps because we were two women traveling alone together. They booked our airport pick up and massages. Everything was really easy and they accommodate their guests needs exceptionally well. I honestly felt completely moved by their kindness.

The staff was nice.

Cons: The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the room was very dark and there was no A/C so I had to leave the windows open and kept smelling all the outside smells like fish. I was also told on the first night, that they couldn’t accommodate me on the second night as the hotel was overbooked. I had already spoken to booking the next morning and was told that the hotel even confirmed, that that was the situation. After I spent the next day looking for a new hotel, all of a sudden they did have cancellation and therefore a room for me. I still wanted ti cancel because I had already packed and looked for a new place. However the hotel wouldn’t let me cancel and the owner insisted on me staying another night. This was extremely unprofessional and rude. Would not recommend this place.

The staff and coziness of this lovely riad are a treat. An excellent breakfast with lots of special other touches like fresh cookies in your room each day make this a home away from home. I would happily return.

Cons: I missed that there isn't AC, but the nights in August are comfortable. People live around the hotel so you will hear children playing, motorcycles dropping folks at their homes or making deliveries, and the sounds of living...tough when I was exhausted from an overseas flight, but delightful once rested. :)

Our stay was May 2022. The decor was inspirational. Fresh flowers everywhere along side Moroccan antiques and collections of handmade artifacts. The property was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was different (and large) every day and included an egg dish if you requested it. Many of the dishes were made by the house manager, Nadia. She also prepared our Moroccan dinner the last night of our stay. It was so delicious and way too much food. We had breakfast everyday on the upper terrace looking over the harbor and nearby mosque. Karim Patito was our tour guide for shopping and one of his team gave us a historical tour. Both were excellent. I highly recommend Karim and Dar Sultan for their attention to detail and your comfort.

Cons: Super tiny rooms with a very open bathroom. Luckily for me, the hotel was empty for my stay, but if not, I would have likely not been too happy. The map they provided was not very helpful to navigate the medina. Not much English communication is understood, although French is very prevalent (including in the area itself). Steep stairs (only a problem for people who have troubles climbing). Pros: Staff was always available and asking me for any requests for food/drink. Very helpful staff in finding any locations otherwise. Beautiful riad with fantastic views of the city and water (not many of these terraces available in the medina). Excellent location although hard to find based on the one sign at the entrance. Very in-your-face cats which is a bonus for me (not a riad I would suggest for anyone allergic or declines to be around cats). Available to help with transfers to the airport (should be no more than 200 dh per trip).

The property is a historic road and is decorated fantastically. The staff is all incredibly kind and attentive. The home is beautiful and well maintained and cared for. The cleaning staff's attention to detail is spectacular. We stayed in the rooftop suite, with the private terrace, where breakfast is served to you from 830-1030. Breakfast is fantastic. There are several stairs to climb and no elevator for those with mobility issues. There are public terraces for the hotel guests as well. The property is at the top of the kasbah so there will be a lot of uphill climbing to get home. Highly recommended.

The Hotel was authentic and incredible with the amazing service great food and the best ambience from all the Riads we stayed through our one month trip in Morocco. A must stay and very convenient location for the Musee de Kasbah and all the stores in the Kasbah.

Difficult walk to hotel. Steep stairs to room. Disgraceful behaviour of staff. Requested taxi to the bus station in the morning. Told no bus available. Lies. Taxi tried to take us to Tangier Port for good price. Drove all around to try and make us miss the bus. Took abuse in French to get us to bus station. Fortunately had agreed price before getting into taxi. Bus fare minimal. Taxi to port Dirhams 200. Particularly wanted the enjoyable views of the bus journey. Rampant dishonesty. Will never go back.

A quintessential Moroccan townhouse in the heart of the Kasbah. Well kept despite its age with its staff toiling to keep it in pristine shape. The breakfast is sumptuous and filling. Each of the rooms have characters of their own. The nuances channel your inner Arab and transport you to the mid century. The views from the rooftop is breathtaking.

A lovely traditional small riad hotel tucked away on the outskirts of the Kasbah. Lots of steps, some narrow, but this is to be expected in an historical building. There was some noise from other guests coming and going owing to tiled floors but again, this is what you have to accept if you also want the rustic charm. The owners didn’t speak much English but we managed with Spanish and French. We loved it.

Dar Sultan is magical. The architecture is gorgeous and it is beautifully decorated. The beds were comfortable and the room was so lovely with architectural details and Moroccan lantern and furnishings. The bathroom was very nice with shampoo, shower gel, and body lotion provided. The location was inside the kasbah. The staff was outstanding, truly wonderful. Breakfast was a feast and so nice eating on the upstairs terrace overlooking the old kasbah town. We had dinner there one night and it was delicious! I highly recommend Dar Sultan. I wish I was there right now!

This splendid little guest house is big on decor, hospitality, and beauty. We stayed in the Chaf room, the room on the top floor with a beautiful terrace, and lovely views of Tangier and the port. Breakfast service was superb. Served on the terrace with an array of local dishes as well as french fare, and crepes, and eggs upon request. The owners, and staff were lovely, and welcoming, and always willing to help (even carrying our heavy luggage up many steep flights of stairs, and through the Kasbah to hail us a taxi)! Nothing more relaxing than lounging on the rooftop terrace with the smell of the ocean, and the sounds of the Kasbah below. When I am back in Tangier, I will stay again.

Be where of this hotel it has no air conditioning. I found the owner to be somewhat argumentative and pushy. Suck without air-conditioning one must sleep with the windows Open, which means you hear a constant line of traffic till three in the morning. I guess the main thing to ask when looking for a hotel is does it have air conditioning because that way you can at least close off the windows and sleep soundly. The hotel is pleasant to look at but like Tangiers in general looks are deceiving.

There are several things to keep in mind before you book the Dar Sultan. The good - the staff was nice as was the breakfast. The Bad - First, location, it may seem like the best place to be to experience the kasbah and the medina, but you can have the experience by staying out of the area. The hotel/home, is cramped, has cats, is old, has tons of stairs and narrow stairways to climb to get to your room. This means that if you need anything you must climb up and down to get service. The hotel does not accept credit cards so book and pay online with Expedia. They charge for water! Yep, no note or notice, but you will pay 2€ for a small bottle and 3€ for a liter. Just outside you can get a 1liter bottle for about .20€. Everyone is on the take! Use these rules: 1. Stand up for yourself - if you get a guide, do not allow them to waste your valuable time and take you into any shops, if they do, walk out immediately and end the tour. Determine the price up front - don't buy into the "if you are happy, I am happy, pay me what you would like. Average wage is about €200/mo , pay no more than 20€ for a 3 hour tour, this is generous. Restaruants - big scam. Everyone is trying to hustle you into a restaurant. Dinner runs 50€ to 70€ for a bowl of soup, vegtables, more vegtables and a cookie. You are better staying at a nice hotel and getting better food. The rooms are small, we took the suit and could not move in the room, the bathroom, shower.

Spent a night there and departed for the airport some 5am-ish the next morning. It was raining. Staff were generally nice except the chief lady, Leila. I belive Leila does not speak well in English and hence she was reluctant to communicate with me, or in other words, we could hardly communicate. I've enquired (just asked) if I could order Dinner (on my own cost) and packeded Breakfast. The answer was a rude and blunt NO from Leila (with no attempt to help or counter-propose), and the resason was that there was only me - a single person - making such request on that day and hence they won't prepare just for me. Yet it was said the room charge included free breakfast! Upon my request for advice, Leila even suggested me to a restaurant nearby which I later found out it offered fine dining on a high cost. I felt so embarrassed when I walked in with my causal wear and trainers which were so unfit with the restaurant. So, I felt I was cheated! Not friendly. No hospitality. Bad travel advice. Also, the decoration all over the lodge looked gorgeous on photos, yet the lights were always dim and there were dust over everything making the interior very old, dusty and dirty. Won't stay there again and do NOT recommend to friends. Very disappointed and Dar Sultan ruined my stay in Tangier with bad and aweful experience. Definitely not worth for money.

As this was my first time in Morocco and first riad that I stayed in, I was immediately charmed by the quirky and colourful decor! It looked like a culturally rich museum with interesting furniture and home decor pieces all around. I arrived late at night feeling tired and hungry. The riad manager Abdo went the extra mile to cook something for me despite the late hour so I would not feel hungry or cold. He quickly whipped up a simple meal of a Moroccan salad, omelette and mint tea! Breakfast was excellent at the rooftop terrace. Abdo and his team were also helpful in providing me directions and introduced me to a nice cafe round the corner where I could have a good lunch. All in all, I would highly recommend this riad for those staying in Tangier for its friendly service and decor. What could be improved though is the wifi access strength.
