Staff was friendly and cordial and accomodated us despite the documentation hassle. They also helped us for directions and local recommendations.
Cons: Overall the Riad was not very comfortable and cosy, the room was very small and cramped compared to the pictures, pics has been manipulated to show it spacious. The sofa cushion were so XL that a person can not sit comfortably alongwith the cushions. The toilet seat was broken, and it was flimsy to sit on the seat. the towel was dirty and ragged. The bathroom was very small, there was no proper floor drying option, so you are left with soaked feet all over the room floor. Taking a shower causes the water to spalsh over everything including the toilet papers, so no shower curtains. The bed was not "double" at all. They joined the two single beds to make it "double". There were no hooks and hangers around to hang the clothes, the only option was to lay them down on the sofa or chairs. The "wardrobe" was so antique that my Mrs. accidentally bumped her head on the edge. The breakfast was terrible, omlette substandard, oily, full of carbohydrates. no fruits options. no healthy options. All in all too expensive for the price we paid. We could have easily booked a 4-star hotel in the city center in that price and could have visited "old Madina" by taxi and explore it on foot.

The place was clean but really tiny, felt kinda claustrophobic. Unfortunately for me, that was the only option they had left. I believe, they also have larger rooms so I would suggest booking those instead if available. The breakfast was very good as it is the case with most of them in Morocco. Great hosts. Recommended.

Great location in the Medina, close to the zouk. Welcoming & very friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Lovely view from rooftop. Good price.
Cons: Unfortunately our bathroom / shower had a problem with smell, but that might be solved meanwhile. You could hear kids voices / playing football until midnight behind the Riad (but after midnight it was quiet).

The breakfast was good and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was possibly the most opulently appointed room in all of the places I stayed at during three weeks of travelling around Morocco. When I had "stomach trouble" the staff made me plain rice and plain yoghurt for dinner which is an old Punjabi/ Persian treatment for such problems.
Cons: Fes has become a ghastly tourist trap. Two nights including the half day walking tour of the Old city( which was arranged for me by the the Riad staff ) would have been enough, but I had booked and paid in advance for 4 nights ,which was too much time in one very touristy place . If people go to Fes and Marrakech then only two nights in each place respectively will be plenty. Spend your time in smaller less touristy places and walking in the Atlas mountains for example. Both cities are HOT most of the year so plan to visit when it is cooler.

Very good dar in Fes medina, two rooms, a great place to stay. Very friendly host, very helpful and polite, the best during our 12 days in Morocco. Large main room and very good other one for the kids, good breakfast. Location is close to the large parking which is quite important, not to carry the luggage a long way into medina. The only dar with the refrigerator in the rooms, which was very welcome. If we are ever back, we will stay there again. Thank you

Staff were helpful, friendly and approachable. Mohamed was very attentive and informative. The room was clean, comfortable and beautiful. The roof terrace was excellent -better views and seating than many of nearby restaurants that had roof terraces. The location within the old city was excellent.
Cons: Leaky shower screen made a dinner plate sized puddle on the bathroom floor after showering and TV didn't work. These were minor detractions from an otherwise excellent accomodation for the price.

Incredible place in a great location within the medina! I had an amazing stay here mainly thanks to the amazing hospitality provided by Mohamed and his team. From the minute I arrived they were incredibly warm welcoming, offering plenty of advice about my stay in Fes and my onward travels, showing genuine care and interest in the quality of my stay with them. I was due to depart early (before breakfast) on my final day, and Mohamed was so kind as to sort me some breakfast to take with me for my onwards journey the following morning which was so far above and beyond my expectations! The Riad itself is incredibly beautiful and the room was cozy and homely. I would highly recommend a stay here to anyone!

Super cute Riad, felt very safe, convenient to both parking lot and souks in easily navigable area so we didn’t get lost in the Fes maze! Absolutely amazing hospitality, Mohammad & Abdul were so friendly and helpful and made us feel at home from the first moment we arrived. Mohammed went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time in Fes and helped us to arrange a wonderful guide. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious, possibly the best tagine since our arrival in Morocco. No frills but had everything we needed.

Cons: If you value your safety, I strongly advise against staying here. I had a cultural misunderstanding with the owner, which escalated to physical harm. The owner, along with two staff members, held me against my will for over 30 minutes. To put this into perspective, I am a 6’3” man; I shudder to think how much worse it could have been for someone smaller or a woman. This hotel is located in the Medina, which I would recommend avoiding altogether. Many individuals there prey on tourists, including the owner of this establishment. He attempted to falsely accuse me and even tried to extort money from me. (I have the whole incident on video) Your safety and peace of mind are not worth the risk of staying here. I hope this review helps others avoid the distress I experienced.

I couldn’t have been more pleased with my experience. The location is absolutely perfect – nestled in the heart of the city, it’s just a short walk from all the main attractions yet offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling streets. The riad itself is stunning, with its traditional architecture and beautifully designed interiors, creating a charming and authentic atmosphere. The rooftop terrace provided amazing views, making it the ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring. The staff, however, truly made the experience unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. They were happy to offer local tips, arrange transport, and make dining recommendations, all with a smile.

It is a beautiful space in the old Medina. Truly gorgeous building and good breakfast.
Cons: It was loud from the street at night and I had trouble sleeping. The outside noise can be heard very clearly inside the room. The host tried to get me to share a room with my colleague, and the reasons were not clear why. I think he wanted to sell another room, but we had booked separate rooms. It just wasn’t pleasant.

The two Mohameds were great hosts. They didnt spare any effort in making our stay at Riad Dar Guennoun one of the most comfortable in our round trip through Morocco. The room was very well designed in a Moroccan style. The breakfast was generous. The facility of a close safe payable parking was a plus. The closeness of the Riad to the old medina makes it a perfect location. We will defnitely book this again if the opportunity arise again.

Me and my wife stayed for 2 nights (Friday-Sunday) at the Dar Guennoun riad. When we arrived, the beautiful paintings on the entrance’s walls were already a nice welcome . We had a really wonderful weekend there, thanks to Mohammed who treated as very well. From there we had the chance to visit many places in Fes, since the locations is close to a Main Street from where to drive a car or take a taxi. And if you want to go to the hearth of the medina, you are also very close. 👍🏽 Would recommend 100%. See you soon khouya Mohammed !!

The decoration of the place is amazing, the breakfast are awesome, the terrace is nice. But the service from the personnel, specially Mohammed, make the difference, they're always there to help you finding a guide for the Medina tour, to suggest you how to move around Fes and where not to go. Thank you.
Cons: Noise in the streets around at nights. For getting hot water in shower, it takes some time after opening the bathroom key and it is a waste of water more in these ecological times.

I liked everything about Dar Guennoun! Juliet is a superb manager and adds those little details that raise a property from good to exceptional. Her staff do the same. A great breakfast on the roof terrace was the highlight of my day.
Cons: Initially I was concerned about the location but this quickly turned into a positive. It’ll be a 15-minute walk into the heart of the old medina but Dar Guennoun is very close to Bab Rcif and EVERYONE in Fes can tell you how to get home!

The host, Juliet, and her staff at this well-preserved Riad were outstanding on every level! It is very apparent how rude effort and pride is poured in to the guest experience. The rooms are perfectly immaculate and you are made to feel right at home. There is always someone there to help with directions or advice, which proved to be invaluable in a Medina that one can easily get lost in. We had a traditional breakfast spread each morning and treated ourselves to dinner at the Riad one night, which was some of the best tajine we had our entire trip! I can't say enough wonderful things about our stay and would definitely stay here if we ever visit Fes again!

Beautifully and lovingly restored and decorated house. Spacious rooms. My husband and I were staying in Abdul suite (free upgrade we've got when we arrived in Riad) and our daughter was staying in Sophia room. We were welcomed with tea and were given tour of the riad. As we were the only guests at the time we could select in which rooms to stay. Lovely breakfast was served on the roof terrace. And the highlight of our stay - we asked Abdul (the owner of the riad) for a traditional Moroccan meal and got dinner of 3 tagins served for us on the roof terrace. Meal was delicious. Special thanks for Salim and Zeinab who welcome us and taking care of us while we were staying in the riad. Riad is located in the Medina, but in a quiet spot, 5 min walk from the parking just outside of the Medina walls. You pretty much can see all of the Medina from the roof terrace. As all Moroccan houses it has narrow steep stairs, so if you are staying just for couple of nights, it makes no sense to get all your luggage to the riad - have couple of backpacks, so you can take whatever you need for the duration of your stay (I would recommend it for all places in Morocco if you stay in the Medina where you cannot park your car next to the house). Definitely will stay again there and recommend it.

Very familiar place, the owner is extraordinary helpful and kind. Good location, fast internet and fantastic kitchen! Thanks for the all staff as well.
Cons: It is normal, just mentioned: you can sleep well with ear plug, due to the life on the street and early muezzin’s voice.

The riad was beautiful but a bit difficult to find. The best way to get there is to go up the steps opposite the Pharmacie Amine on the main road and turn right about 3/4 of the way up where the paths cross. The riad itself was clean and comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly, even offering to walk us to another riad for dinner. Breakfast was fantastic, with a wide selection of food. The riad is in the heart of the medina so is situated within what seems like a maze of alleyways which could make some travellers uneasy, especially at night, but we didn't have any problems. The room was simple but clean, although some might be put off by the bathroom situation as the door was like a swinging stable door which meant there wasn't total privacy (This wasn't a problem as we were a couple, but it might be if you are not family etc) You will likely hear various animals and possibly the prayer call (I heard it at 5am) but this is to be expected in this location. Overall, I would recommend this riad if you would like an authentic experience in the heart of the medina. We would stay here again.

We really enjoyed staying here. It's in the Medina but just a few minutes walk from a main road to one of the main gates, so nice location. Breakfast was nice, very low key, no pressure to take their tours or eat at the riad which we appreciated. Very nice quiet atmosphere. If anything, I could only say it was a bit chilly in the main space, but I think thats just how these traditional houses are, they don't really heat them, so when it's cold it's cold, our room had a very nice hvac unit and it was nice and toasty after a cold day walking around.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Juliet is a phenomenal hostess. She arranged our tours of the local area at our request and looked after us like her own children to include advice that kept us safe and healthy during our stay. Juliet and her staff embodied the ideals of safety and comfort for us during our stay. We will return to her again and we will always wholeheartedly recommend this Riad to our friends who are interested in travel to Fez.

Super!

A very friendly and comfortable Riad in a good location, within the Medina but a pleasant distance away from the most touristic areas. On the evening that we dined in, the Riad produced an excellent and very reasonably priced dinner. Great views from the roof terrace.

The Abdullah suite was huge and beautiful. Nice big bathroom and English channels on TV. It was nice having breakfast on the roof terrace, even though basic fare. A squealing Neighbour child and early rising rooster were a bit annoying but didn't spoil our stay. A bit more expensive than some Riads ,but worth it.

It is a wonderful place. When you walk through the narrow alleyways, you cannot but wonder whether you made the right choice. But when they open the door and you walk in, it takes your breadth away. The owners are on site during day time and they are very courteous. Juliette even provided some medicine for my daughter. They even walked with us to get a taxi etc. Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. The Riad is a little bit dark but that is to be expected. It has all the modern amenities. The medina tour with an elderly gentleman (I think Muhammad) was very worth every penny of it. He was very knowledgeable, very accommodative and even helped us to buy a tagine at the market. I would highly recommend him. The reasons I am giving them the rating of 3 are due to the dinner that they served and the taxi that they booked for our tour of the city. The dinner was overpriced and the chicken was tough as a rubber. The worst part was the driver that they booked for our tour of the city. Moulin or something was his name. He was extremely rude. When we booked we told that we had seen the palace and would like to be dropped off at the train station and would like to see a garden instead of the palace. He refused to take us to the garden. He cut short our trip by about an hour and very rude. He was also not happy about dropping us off at the station even though we were closer to the station than the Riad. All is all a very bad experience for a very high price.

The place is an old family house with a nice decoration, some kind of antique place. Our room was in the third floor which made a little difficult to get up and down, specially with our luggage. The room shara feels old, mainly the bathroom, than in our opinion needs a remodelation. Breakfast is fantastic!

The service, food and general atmosphere was excellent. The room was larger than other Riads in which we stayed. However, the location was not ideal. Most sites in the medina were a long walk away, and often a taxi ride.

We had an amazing experience staying at this Riad! It is in a great location. The Riad is very clean and we felt safe all of the time. The best part about staying here is that we felt as if we were visiting family. The staff is excellent! They go out of there way to make your experience the best it can possibly be. We took wonderful day trips and all of our guides were fantastic. We were always greeted with smiles and felt very comfortable. We would have never had the same experience staying in a large hotel. I would highly recommend staying here. Amazing!!!

Nice little Riad, just outside one of the main gates to the Medina. Ask a local if you cant find it right away, I took a taxi from the train station and then you have to walk a couple mins. Friendly staff, good English. AC works great. Hard to beat for the price.

The Riad Dar Guennon is absolutely beautiful inside. I was not expecting such a wonderful relaxing hotel. The rooms are unique and the roof top has an amazing view over the Medina in Fez. The hotel food is great and authentic but a little expensive in comparison to food in the rest of the city. As soon as we walked in we were upgraded into a larger room because it was available. To me that is wonderful service and extremely nice. My concerns - are focused around it is not in the best place in the Medina at night (a little unsafe) just make sure you are not out too late & the smaller rooms are quite small - just be prepared.

Staff friendly and helpful. A huge bed in our room and a fridge, a must in the 40+ temperatures we had. A nce variation for breakfast and more than enough. Cleanleness of room and infact whole Riad vey high. A real nuisence not having a front door key, hod to knock for a while a couple of times.

my daughter and i enjoyed the traditional decor of our room. this traditional design was also present in the public areas of the riad and enabled it to stay cool even on very hot days. breakfast on the upper terrace was always refreshing and the meals were excellent. above all, the staff were welcoming and efficient, creating a family atmosphere. there is just one small recommendation which i'd like to make. whereas prices for soft drinks were displayed on a list in each room, there was no such price list for the various meals, wine, beer and cooking courses.

This was my fourth visit to Morocco (second in Fez) and the English speaking owner's welcoming to the Riad was very special! Expect to a hearty warm welcome and refreshments with tea, a tasty treat, and a sprinkling of rose water before filling out the required Moroccan forms. You automatically feel at home and know you're going to enjoy your visit. Our room was small as described by our hosts, but it was more than spacious and beautifully decorated for us. The twin beds were more than adequate. The entire Riad is impeccably designed with Moroccan flair and the food is amazingly authentic and cost about fifteen in european funds per dish and served on the rooftop terrace. Our entrees were lemon chicken and beef with prunes and both were indescribably delicious.. Internet and AC worked just fine. We felt comfortable arranging our mountain tour with the hotel and did stay here upon our return to Fes and ordered an additional two meals. This Riad is like a lovely oasis in the midst of a very hot city..

The riad is very difficult to find the first time once being dropped off just outside the medina. We had to have someone bring us there. We offered to pay him and he said no but then waited outside the road for us to come back out later and insisted on taking us on a tour that we didn't want. We were led around in circles and could not get rid of him. We overpaid him and he was telling us he would wait for us outside that evening/the next morning for more of a tour. Definitely call before you're dropped off and request that someone come meet you.

Like many Riads, the hosts were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and there is a pleasant roof-top area. Breakfasts were uninspiring, bread, coffee etc which didn't change in the three mornings we were there (one egg sliced in two was provided for the two of us). We ate at the Riad couple of times and although they were tasty they were very much overpriced.

The riad is absolutely stunning inside, like a palace. Our room was large and also beautiful. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very nice. We also ordered dinner our first night, it was delicious and a nice relief when you just get in from traveling. It is walking very close to the gate to the medina. It is difficult to find your first time so have them send you a driver to pick you up and bring you in, well worth it. I would definitely recommend this beautiful place to anyone.

Beautiful Riad, expert guides, I was totally in love with the place.

Many thanks to Miriam, Said, and all the hotel personnel for their great hospitality! Said and Miriam have a perfect French and English and are always willing to give the most valuable information. The riad is well-located to visit Medina and also to take a taxi to any other locations in Fes and surrounding areas. It also introduces you to a side of Moroccan culture. As for Medina, don't be intimidated by the harassment of the self-declared guides; at some point they will give up and outside the Medina there is no such attitude. We also enjoyed the new town, and day-trips to Rabat, Kenitra and Mehdia, by train and local buses. Actually, if you are on a budget or you want to experience local culture, you can get about anywhere by train (very clean) and then by bus or some other local transportation.

My stay here was very comfortable. The riad has been in the family since the 17th century. It has been tastefully remodeled. I ended up taking many pictures of the fittings and decorations they've used. It's almost like visiting a museum of Moroccan arts. Meals were great too. It's fun to get some snacks in the medina. But if you want to sit down in comfort and enjoy a good meal after a day of walking, just let the riad organize it for you. Few restaurants in Fes will match the ambience: Moroccan lamps throwing patterns on intricate mosaics and woodwork, a courtyard fountain- peacefully falling on marble, candles on your table, and oud music in the background... Staying here feels like visiting with a local family in Fes. They are very friendly and take care of each guest individually. Highly recommend this place. Get a good idea of where the hotel's located before you venture out (this really applies to ALL hotels in Fes). The location of this hotel is quite good actually. Sometimes you might have to wait a while for a taxi at Bab Boujloud to get back... but again, that might apply to all hotels too. At least in this case a taxi can bring you back. For many other hotels that's not an option. The hotel can arrange guides for you for tours within the medina and for excursions. If you go for this option ask for Mr. Mohamed. He's a very kind gentleman who knows the place inside out.

We were greeted by Abdul and his daughters Sophia and Miriam after our train journey with mint tea and freshly home-made Moroccan patisseries, all of which were delicious. The whole operation is a real family affair and since the family is half British they could tell us a lot about the building and the city and advise us on the best things to do. The restoration of the Riad is stunning and although we were staying in one of the cheaper, more 'compact' rooms, we got to see some of the others which were amazing - all decorated to a high standard and furbished with beautiful accessories from the local medina. The family were obviously genuinely interested in our experience in Fes and were able to offer lots of advice on where to go and what to do. One of their best recommendations was the hammam - perhaps not quite the traditional, more basic experience that we may have expected, but an opportunity for some pampering in fairly luxurious surroundings and definitely to be recommended. We were glad to have taken the offer of a taxi and the driver to walk us to the door as there is no way we would have found it otherwise! A bit pricey but worth it, and you can take a normal petit taxi back when you leave. The location of the Riad, about 10 minutes easy walk from the souks and Saffarine Square, meant that it was easy to access the hub of activity yet far enough away to be quiet enough at night, apart from the early morning Mosque call! Our best wishes to the family!

The moment we walked through the door of the Riad, we were struck with how beautiful it is. Everywhere you look is beautiful intricate detail and decor. The rooms were equally beautiful as well as being spotlessly clean and well fitted out (the shower was great). Breakfast was big and good - and eating it on the terrace with a tremendous view of the Medina was a great way to start the day (in fact, all of the three places to eat there were beautiful). The staff were lovely and incredibly helpful - from the first moment when they gave us mint tea and pastries and told us to treat the Riad like our home to the end when they gave us pancakes from breakfast for the journey home. Their English was good and they were able to arrange everything we wanted (from places to eat to maps and directions to a brilliant guide). I absolutely loved spending 4 days in Fez (its been one of my favourite trips) and I am sure that staying in Riad Dar Guennoun and all of the help and friendly service that Miriam and Abdul gave us was instrumental in making that the case. I really couldn't recommend it too highly.
