The location of the hotel is perfect! You can easily walk to every toristic place in 5-10 minutes. Also the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The breakfast was a bit overpriced for what was offered. The options were limited and there was nothing special in the breakfast. While we were staying at the hotel, the other restaurant where they usually serve breakfast was closed. So they moved breakfast to their other restaurant. Maybe that was the reason. Also there was no kettle in the room. A kettle would be great.

Perfect location. They have a very good parking system where you just leave the car outside the hotel and the staff parks it. When you need it, you let them know beforehand and they bring it to you. Very convenient.

The location was perfect. It was near so many restaurants and shops. Very close to the river as well. The bar downstairs was also great with wonderful appetizers. Plus the bartender was so friendly. He made very very good drinks.
Cons: Our room smelled really weird and it wasn’t a house cleaning issue. I think the water had a funky smell to it so it took a while to get used to. The room was also very small.

The location was incredible. We loved having absolutely everything at our doorstep. Easy to reach from the train station when we arrived (took a cab) and then exclusively walked the rest of our stay. The lobby, room, and staff all exceeded expectations. Highly recommend and would stay again.

The hotel had a very modern room design and a newly renovated bathroom. The location was perfect since the hotel is situated in the heart of Florence city center. The view from the rooftop was stunning.

We had an amazing time at hotel Calimala! My husband and I are both physicians and which really value our time. This hotel is amazing and it truly puts you right in the city center where you could just walk right out and be part of all of the festivities and be right next to the river. We came here for New Year’s Eve to celebrate the New Year’s and it was such an amazing experience. It’s an upscale hotel that puts you in the middle of the city and you’re able to walk to all of the sites and return home to a central location. Lots of restaurants and festivities. It was literally the best. They also have a rooftop deck which is so endearing! Coming from Florida and wanting a safe place that is in the center of it all… This was the nicest experience! The rooftop bar has tremendous outdoor space with great views - even on a December night! We loved our stay at Hotel Calimala. There was some street noise in our room but that was because our room faced the main street; friends in two other rooms didn’t experience this.

Large, beautifully appointed rooms. Excellent breakfast. Wonderful bar service. The staff is beautiful—inside and out. There is clearly excellent leadership here—happy people provide better service; this is a joyful place. We have stayed at other five star properties in Florence. We will return to Calimala.

This was our third stay at Hotel Calimala and it was as wonderful as we have come to expect. We now consider this hotel our home away from home in Florence. From the moment we arrived, Stefano and his colleagues were, as always, courteous and most accommodating. Our room was beautifully designed, impeccably clean, and infused with that signature Calimala aesthetic — a blend of chic Art Deco and modern elegance, and unique artwork throughout the hotel. Although we couldn’t dine at Mezze due to a private function that evening, the team immediately arranged a table for our friends and us at Angel, where we enjoyed a lovely share plates dinner. The cocktails at the bar were excellent, and the festive Christmas atmosphere throughout the hotel added an extra touch of magic to our stay. We couldn't recommend Hotel Calimiala enough!

Wonderful hotel, service and location. There are so many places to stay in Florence that when I got this recommendation from a friend I was happy to book it. Then I saw it was Michelin starred. After staying I know why. Attention to detail in everything. Beautiful rooms, the bath products smelled so good even my husband loved using them. The location can’t be beat. So close to the Duomo, all the museums and amazing restaurants. Everything was under a 10 minute walk. We loved or visit and can’t wait to try the sister property in Milano one day.

My stay at Hotel Calimala was exceptional from beginning to end. The accommodations were outstanding — especially for a tall individual like myself. I strongly recommend contacting the hotel directly to request the Superior Double with a king-size bed, which provided excellent comfort and space. Breakfast was absolutely worth it. The attendants were warm, attentive, and consistently delivered service that elevated each morning. The overall hospitality throughout the property reflected a true commitment to guest experience. Its location in the heart of Florence made everything effortless and accessible. I highly recommend Hotel Calimala and fully plan to return — including trying their Milano sister property in the future

Some good, some improvements needed. Overall great experience and will be back. Stayed in the east building on via Calimala. Some nitpicky improvements: 1) there was a foul odor in the elevator (that I forgot to mention to the staff); it may have only been temporary, though, so probably not a big problem. 2) the scent diffusers near the elevator are overpowering, they should have a more delicate odor. 3) when serving drinks at the bar, you should provide a little something to eat, like nuts, olives or potato chips. 4) the boiler providing hot water to the bathrooms is set too low; I would increase by about 7-10 degree C. 5) The toilet tissue, while clearly strong, resembles sandpaper. I suggest changing brands. I can't speak for the noise that others mention, because I live in New York, and noise doesn't really bother me. The breakfast buffet is fine, and pretty much like every other breakfast buffet in Italy. I found the room temperature quite comfortable. I would suggest putting sheers on the windows, to allow for privacy, but would let light in. On the plus side, the location is perfect - it's the only neighborhood I would stay in in Florence. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The rooms, while on the small side are very nicely decorated and comfortable. I had two windows, and a view of the Signoria. The value for the money is exceptional, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel was in a very convenient location in Florence. Very close to SMN Train Station and the busy areas of Florence. The only issue with the convenience is that it can be noisy at night which is a problem if you can't sleep without the windows open. Would stay in the hotel again 100%. Staff were very nice and accommodating.

There is a bad smell in all the hotel including the room where the temeperature is set at 23 degree C ! They should review the ventilation system and the AC. Only recommendation from the reception following our complaint: open the window! Window on one of the noisiest street of Florence. The breakfast is very poor and served by rude waitress. The cleaning staff mobilize the elevators for there service and do not care about client! Avoid this poor hotel!

For the second year in a row we have spent a week in Florence at the Hotel Calimala....and we will keep coming back. It is a modern and stylish hotel perfectly located in the center of Florence. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. We would open our window just to let the sounds of Florence fill our room...one night that was to hear someone signing opera...incredible! The hotel staff are very professional and helpful. We will keep coming back. See you next year!

I absolutely loved my time in Florence and ended up extending my holiday because I didn’t want to leave. A big thank you to Silvia, who was amazing. She managed to arrange an extra night for me even though the hotel was fully booked, and I got to stay in the same room as well. She was so professional and helpful, and really made things easy for me. The location of the hotel couldn’t be better. It’s close to all the main sights, restaurants, and shops. I’d definitely stay here again on my next trip to Florence.

I don't write many reviews but am so happy to write one for this hotel. We have stayed at Hotel Calimala 4 separate times in the last 2 years and it has become our favorite hotel in Florence. It is centrally located, the rooms are immaculately clean and stylishly furnished, and yet, still retain an old world charm with exposed stone walls and marble bathrooms. The rooms have everything you need and if you have forgotten something, more than likely they can provide it. The beds are lovely and we have slept well every time. The pillows are lovely but I might ask if they offer down or down alternative pillows the next time we stay. They have 2 beautifully restored buildings in which they have rooms (they are around the corner from one another) and we have stayed in both and are equal in measure. I slightly prefer the original building but only because the reception area is roomier and has a bar to get a coffee. The roof-top restaurant is stunningly situated overlooking Florence; the food is Tuscan, beautifully served and delicious. There is a gym and maybe a sauna and probably even more amenities but I really want to get to the hospitality part: the people are exceptional. Every, single, person we have encountered on our several trips there is exceptional at what they do. All of them have gone above and beyond in the categories of being courteous, friendly, helpful, accommodating, respectful, thorough, generous, thoughtful and authentic. It is one of the most consistent levels of service and staffing we have encountered: truly world class. Thank you every time Hotel Calimala!

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout. The rooftop restaurant offered a wonderful breakfast buffet with a great atmosphere. The location was excellent—within easy walking distance to all the places we wanted to visit. The double-glazed windows noticeably blocked out most noise, contributing to a restful night's sleep. We will definitely rebook this location on our next trip

Gorgeous hotel and delightful room. You are in the heart of the old town and minutes from both the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. Breakfast on the terrace is fantastic (you can also get a cappuccino to go!) I took mine alfresco. In the evenings you can find street musicians across the way to enjoy while you eat your gelato.

I’ll second many of the good things other reviewers have said: fantastic location, friendly and helpful staff, chic design, generous room size (by European standards), and excellent rooftop bar. We overall enjoyed our stay very much. Our only complaint—and it’s really more of a warning than a complaint because the issue is mostly beyond the hotel’s control—was the noise. The East building is, as others have mentioned, near an outdoor market which features *very* loud (but otherwise pleasant) musical performances that go on quite late. On our first night, it was classical music till around 11:30 p.m.; our second night, the opera singing lasted till around 1:30 a.m.(!!); the third night, the hotel moved us to another room at our request and the noise was better but still bothersome. I’m a pretty heavy sleeper, but even with foam earplugs the music kept me awake both of the first two nights. All that is to say, while we would likely return to Hotel Calimala, we would request a room further from the outdoor market. If you’re not a night owl or are a light sleeper, we suggest you do the same (and bring ear plugs).

The staff have been extremely helpful leading up to our stay, answering questions about transportation and tours in Tuscany. Upon arrival at Hotel Calimala West, Silvie and the staff were extremely helpful and professional. We checked our bags and waited for early check in. We enjoyed a coffee and a delicious snack outside at the sidewalk cafe, where Sabina provided excellent service. We were able to go to our room about 20 minutes before check in. Our room was well appointed, comfortable bed, comfortable armchair and a desk and chair. We had plenty of closet space, and our room was very quiet--which we appreciated considering the central location. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, hot and cold including a variety of fresh fruit, and Prosecco if you want to make a Mimosa/cocktail. Again, the staff service was excellent, prompt and attentive. We also had drinks after dinner one evening, and again the staff and service were excellent. I highly recommend staying at Hotel Calimala for a relaxing, enjoyable couples stay! We did dine at the rooftop restaurant at Hotel Calimala East and were welcomed by a very attentive hostess, and then proceeded to the rooftop. Again, the staff and level of service were excellent. This is the only time that we were not completely satisfied. It continued to get colder and more windy, and the space heater close to our table was not working. Plus, many restaurants offer a small blanket for warmth, but this was not the case at the rooftop restaurant. The food was delicious (T-bone steak, etc.), but we stopped eating our dinner and left quickly because it was too cold. The one suggestion I have that the hotel offers throw blankets, and ensures that all heaters are functional. Otherwise they should close the area once it is too cold.

Everything was exceptional, making our stay a really wonderful experience. The staff were extremely nice with us throughout our stay, and they were like that with everyone. The reception was impeccable, valet as well. The parking was a bit on the expensive side, but it's right in the center of Florence. The room was perfect, cleaning of the rooms was perfect as well. Would definitely recommend and come back here. The location of the hotel is 5-10min walk to the most important places in Florence as well!!
Cons: Small to big group size people were really loud on the corridor, but it's not something that they can really control(I would suggest here some signs in the corridor with "Please be quiet" or something). The breakfast could have been more diverse.

This is a wonderful, upscale hotel in an absolutely fabulous part of town with easy walking to any of the major sites. Dozens of restaurants are also just steps away and the hotel itself boasts one of the cities most popular rooftop bars where hotel guests seem to get preferred seating. The train station is also only a few minutes taxi ride away!

Don’t stay on fourth floor as you will hear EVERYTHING above you at the restaurant all night long. Horrible sleep. The staff isn’t very friendly or helpful, no worries I booked things myself without their help. Don’t expect your laundry to return on time and when it doesn’t they offer no compensation. The cleaning staff didn’t clean simply made the bed never took out or changed full trash cans etc.

An excellent hotel in a perfect location for exploring the treasures of Florence. Breakfast or aperitivo at the rooftop Angel restaurant bar is a must. Perfect location. Rooms are updated and very nice. Lots of room and good lighting. The frond desk people were very nice and helpful. Only complaints the rooftop bar was reserved both nights for private party, so it was closed and we could not enjoy. Also the drain on the shower overflowed but they fixed it the next day.

My husband and I were traveling with our 27 year old daughter. Our room was not ready before noon so we were told to return at 2 pm. When we returned, we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a junior suite! That was so nice to have a larger room for 3 adults. Thank you! The breakfast was delicious and quick. The location is very close to the leather market where we found some bargains. The staff helped us make dinner reservations, showed us to our room and explained the lighting system in room. We were treated very well and would come again!
Cons: The modern bathroom lighting was not adequate for applying makeup. The light was behind the fancy mirror and it was very dark to do anything in front of sink. An overhead light may be helpful.

Cons: The location is good, but the breakfast is subpar, and the rooftop restaurant is overrated. Staff at the top roof restaurants are not very friendly, always offering you the worst table in the entire restaurant, either in the passage or in the designated area where no one has been seated, and the view is limited. I'm not sure if you need to tip them to get better? Overall, it's a low value for the money.

You can have breakfast up there too. The hotel has two properties and the other has a lovely small champagne bar and you can have breakfast in there if you prefer. There no lobby space as such but you don't need it. Be sure to book the rooftop for dinner as it's really popular.

- Location, location, location! This hotel makes almost all of center Florence walkable, it is an ideal location to walk anywhere you’d like and that is above all else the best thing about the hotel. - All of the staff was very helpful and friendly, from check in all the way to check out, to include the front desk and waitresses that served breakfast. - It has free WiFi which was very reliable. - Strong air conditioning for the summer heat - Beautiful, eclectic rooms with exposed brick and the ability to completely close the windows to incoming light, which helped me sleep immensely. Huge shower as well! - This hotel actually has two locations right around the corner from each other, and each location has a restaurant. This comes in handy during long days of touring, and there is a discount for guests who are staying at the hotel. The dinner at Angel Rooftop was just okay, but the view and atmosphere were amazing. On the reverse, the food at Meze was A+, though expensive tapas, but not a rooftop so no views. - The breakfast at Angel Rooftop was amazing! Highly recommend. - Would definitely stay here again.
Cons: This isn’t a negative, more of a PSA. The Angel Rooftop bar is open to the public, so sometimes there is a long wait for the elevators once the restaurant opens at 5 PM. Be careful with that!

Beautiful hotel that felt really upscale. The location is very central and perfect for finding your way around. The rooftop area where breakfast was held was amazing, and i thought breakfast was really good. Scrambled eggs are basically what i look for in hotel breakfast, and they had that, but they also had little croissant sandwiches, bacon, fruits, all kinds of things. Room was extremely large and comfortable, with a cool view to some of the architecture outside. The hallway to my room had a little alcove, with an old Italian black and white movie being projected onto the wall (no sound, just subtitles) and i thought that was super cool. Staff were super helpful when i asked questions, and also helped me get a 4am cab to the airport no problem, which i was very grateful for.
Cons: Internet was not working for a lot of my stay, which was a huge problem for me, but also a big problem for the staff. There are some really good coffee shops not far away to walk to for wifi though. Keep in mind this hotel is right in tourist central, so there is noise, and a bajillion people outside. I live in a city so i am very comfortable with noise at night, but if you aren't used to that it could be a problem.

The room itself was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. One of the drawbacks to the prime location is the amount of noise outside at night. We stayed on the first floor above the restaurant and a small cafe, and there was a lot of noise until early morning.

I had an amazing stay at Hotel Calimala in Florence—honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. The hotel is stunning, with a perfect mix of historic character and modern style. The room was both chic and cozy, with a rustic charm.. The location couldn’t have been better—right in the heart of the city and just a 10 min walk from Santa Maria Novella station. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. One of the highlights was definitely the rooftop bar—we caught the sunset one evening and it was absolutely beautifullllll What really made the stay unforgettable, though, was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and genuinely welcoming. They went out of their way to make us feel at home, always offering helpful tips and warm greetings. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone visiting Florence!!!

I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Calimala in Florence—everything about it exceeded expectations. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, blending historic charm with modern touches, and the location is perfect for exploring the city--walking distance to everything including Santa Maria Novella train station. What truly made the experience memorable was the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and cared for. From helpful recommendations to warm greetings each day, their hospitality really stood out. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Florence.

What an absolute delight to the senses! This hotel offered the most perfect experience for our first visit to Italy. The staff was second to none. Their friendly and kind ways were most certainly appreciated. A beautiful retreat in the heart of a heavenly city.

Great location within walking distance of all the major attractions. Rooms were comfortable. Only drawback, that I'm not sure they can control, is it tended to be quite loud outside at night.

Whay can I not say? The location was fantastic! The reception and staff were very friendly and professional! The rooms were very comfortable, especially during the 90+ degree days! Taxi transportation from the train station was only about 10 minutes. The breakfast was the best! My only regret is that we were not able to stay a day or two longer.

Such a magnificent hotel. We were greeted right at our car and from that moment, the wonderful kind staff gave us their full attention. We appreciated so many small details like chocolates in our room, multiple towels, Nespresso espresso machine, bottled water. The room was spotlessly clean and so charming with original stone walls and exciting art pieces. The sheets and pillows and quilts were of the highest caliber. What a comfortable bed after a long travel day. We had drinks and apps at the Angel rooftop bar and dinner at Mezze. Both were wonderful. Of course, the location was why we chose Hotel Calimala. It’s in the very heart of Florence. I can’t praise this place enough. Just perfection.

Our first four nights in Italy was at Calimala. Great location and friendly helpful staff. All four days went perfectly. There is one staff member that really stood out - Lavinia. She went over and above to assist us with booking our first European train rides. She took customer service to an entirely new level. My wife and I will never forget her or her assistance.

We booked connecting corner rooms, which were perfect for our family. The rooms were modern, immaculately clean, and warmly inviting. We especially loved being able to open the windows and enjoy the fresh Florentine air—such a simple pleasure that added so much charm. From the concierge to the bellman, every member of the staff was genuine, kind, and incredibly helpful. Their warmth and professionalism made us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. We dined twice at Mezze, and both times were delightful—our daughters couldn’t get enough of the food. One of the highlights of our trip was dinner at the Angel rooftop restaurant. From the breathtaking views to the delicious appetizers, mains, and desserts, it was an unforgettable experience we’ll always treasure. As with any vibrant city center, there’s a lively energy in the evenings. While my daughters, ages 10 and 12, slept peacefully, my husband and I found that using earplugs made for an even more restful night. Honestly, this is a small trade-off for staying right in the heart of Florence—where everything is just steps away. Overall, the exceptional service, beautiful rooms, and unbeatable location made this stay truly special. We would return in a heartbeat.

Artsy design, beautiful hotel, and fun vibe especially rooftop for dinner and views. Staff was friendly. However, I could not sleep one wink. It was so loud all hours throughout the night from the bar crawlers on the streets, to the plumbing noises, to high heels above me. I hate to give this a poor review because I had the best time until I tried to sleep.

Stay started off terrible! The view I paid for was definitely not work the money! With in 10 mins of being in my room I reached out to the hotel! They said they couldn’t control what happens outside of their hotel meaning the construction that I would have been forced to look at if I opted to stay in that room. I was willing to cancel my stay and find another room. The initial excitement was taken away due to the rooms view and what I thought I’d have based on Expedia pictures ! having to go to the front desk then having to move! As a mentioned in a previous review i don’t like how they treat tourist ( American ). The hotel is in walking distance of a lot of attractions however I didn’t feel comfortable asking for any recommendations after my experience at check in! Won’t visit again! There are so many hotels in the area I would be willing to give a try to if I ever visit Florence again! Wouldn’t say that the hotel wasn’t worth $1000.00 for two nights

From the moment we arrived until our departure we could not fault this hotel. Special call out to Lavinia who went above and beyond on not just one but two occasions. The first when I spilt water on my mobile phone and she quickly walked us to the Apple store to get help and then again during the train strike to ensure we got out of Florence with no stress. Wonderful hotel in the very best location and the most caring staff anywhere. We will be back. Thank you for an amazing stay.

We travel the world, as you can see from my reviews. My wife works for an international institution. We know hotels. Calimala is the best in Florence and may be the best little boutique hotel in the world. It starts with the staff. There has been almost no turnover in ten years because they act like a family and treat you like a family member. They are warm, friendly, and accommodating. There are concierge level service hotels that do not measure up to Calimala. It is an amazing facility, with spacious, well-appointed rooms that have great views and perfect bathrooms. This is not the norm in Europe. We have been on many rooftop bars and restaurants, including those that charge a cover, and none of them is as spectacular as Angel Rooftop Bar at Calimala. The food is great and the view is to die for. The Meze lounge is a perfect stop when you come in out of the heat and before you head up to the room. I can not say enough about the location, location, location. We go shopping, dining, walking around, seeing all the main sites, and we are never more than a few minutes from our room. We always stop in to drop off a package or to freshen up, but it never slows us down or detracts from our activities. There is no hotel like it. And there is no city like Florence.

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel! The location is perfect—just a short walk from the city center, making it very convenient to explore everything on foot. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and kind throughout my visit. Special thanks to Angelo P, Stefano, Angelo D, and Davide for their exceptional service. They made me feel very welcome and taken care of. A special mention goes to Davide, who went above and beyond by giving me a detailed itinerary and excellent tips for visiting Genoa. After thorough and extensive research on where to stay, me and my fiancé decided to stay at Hotel Calimala and it was absolutely perfect. I've heard horror stories of people being catfished by hotels (in Italy in general) but it was exactly, if not better, what I expected. The service and hospitality was top-notch from the jump. They welcome with you a glass of Prosecco at the main bar and a staff member will personally walk you to your room and explain everything. Location couldn't have been better. We were at the epicenter of everything so it was easy to navigate around the city. We adored the rooftop as it provided spectacular views and plenty of seating with great ambiance. They had an event going on one night we were there, and the line was out the door. On our last day, we asked for a slightly later checkout and they easily accommodated. Not only that, we had a later flight, they held our luggage while we roamed around. Our stuff was fine, and staff again, were so attentive. All this to say, this hotel was featured for a reason. Just book!

Combined with excellent customer service, welcome Prosecco and a beautiful room with exposed brick looking out onto the Florence streets, I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. We stayed with our son and he had a comfortable cot in our room, making it a wonderful choice for our family of 3. It is walkable to major sites - make sure to walk to the Il Mercado Centrale for browsing and eating.

All of our preferences were accommodated promptly and to the highest standard. The room itself was spotless and well-maintained. Housekeeping was consistently excellent and scheduled at a time that was most convenient for us. The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of the city, with all major attractions within a comfortable 5–10 minute walk. Overall, our experience was seamless and exceeded expectations.
