We loved our stay at the Shangri La. We had a room in the Krungthep wing & overlooked the river, which was just marvellous. There were fireworks on the Saturday night which was fabulous to see from our little balcony. The room was large & very comfortable with good, quiet air con a great sized extra large comfortable bed & good wardrobes etc.. Bathroom was also really spacious with a walk in shower. It was a fair walk internally or via the gardens to the main hotel which we were quite happy with as it's difficult to get so much exercise in the heat of Thailand! The pool was my favourite of our stay with the shade of the trees keeping it temperate. We ate in the Italian restaurant one night & had a lovely meal outside overlooking the river. The staff were always polite and on hand if needed, the reception staff were extremely helpful & the pool guys kept the area very well tended. We felt that we had a great introduction to Thailand here. The city was easy to navigate using the ferries, with the free shuttle over to Iconsiam very helpful, although the main ferry terminal was a short walk. There was a great massage place just outside the hotel, but my partner used the gym & sauna in the health club which he said was good. Enjoyed a river dining cruise which was an exceptional experience too.

I love the Shangri-La Hotel chain, especially Bangkok. The Thai restaurant on the water, absolutely sensational Mus and curry delicious went back the next night. They’re crème brûlée 10 out of 10. I’ll always go back to this hotel.

Cons: The food options on the room service menu. you’re have a few average items? It’s a five star hotel They took my suitcase and didn’t give it to me till the next day and I didn’t even remember anyway, but still. Be careful on the booking Booking.com it said free taxi transport general. The Shangri-La hotel had no idea about the transfer and I still have to pay yet. It’s deceptive and misleading contact on behalf of Booking.com to say that the Shanghai hotel agreed to the airport transfers when it has nothing to do with them.

Direkt am Fluß gelegenes Hotel, sehr gutes und professionell organisiertes Frühstück auf der Außenterrasse, sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal. Wir hatten die Möglichkeit bekommen, später am Nachmittag auszuschecken, was am Abreisetag sehr angenehm war.

Cons: Wir waren in dem in die Jahre gekommenen Krungthep Flügel untergebracht mit eigenem Balkon. Die Ausstattung war doch in die Jahre gekommen und hätte doch eine Modernisierung verdient wie ebenfalls die Außenfassade mit bröckelnden Balkonen.

Cons: The balcony river view rooms are in the Krung Thep wing—which they don’t tell you—and it’s quite old and empty and nearly a 10 minute walk from the newer wing. Rooms are from the 1980s and our lights flickered the entire stay. We also didn’t see a single person on our floor the entire stay. Felt empty/abandoned. Newer wing was nice and lively. Don’t recommend Krung Thep wing.

Disappointed. For me this is not what a Shangri-la experience should be. This is more like an hotel for cruise participants and other groups.Also the second wing should not be sold as part of the hotel. This is too far away from any real service provided by the hotel. When we checked in last night we realized how ridiculisly far away our room was. I booked a suite with lounge access. The lounge is in another building and you need to walk and change floor 3 times to arrive there . Same for breakfast, réception, bar , pool... we asked the reception if another suite was available in the main building and it was initially not. I informed them that I would like to cancell my booking and was seriously already looking for an alternative.. The staff was really trying to help, they. ́early often have the same issue. A few minutes later they told me that a suite could be available in the main building. They escorted us to see it and as it was not ready we went to the bar for a drink (really nice bar and staff) and out for diner. Ou suite was then ready and we started to chase our luggages who were delivered after 20 min. This morning the breakfast was far from a pleasure. So busy and stressfull.they have some welcome desk for Viking cruise other groups with people talking to other tables etc. It was the same feeling that last night when we arrived on the same time that a group. I am now writing this from the pool. Nice staff, nice pool. But the overall experience is not so good. For me this is a well situated old fashioned ex 5 stars who has lost the fifth one. The second wing should be sold to groups. And they need to invest some money to refresh some rooms. The experience could discourage me to book another Shangri la in the future now that i will be based in Asia 6 months a year.

Tilbage på Shangri- La efter 14 år. Varm modtagelse med et smukt værelse. Chokolade. Bløde håndklæder og en skøn seng. Smuk udsigt. Stedet har stadig den samme wow følelse. Her er smukt, dufter pragtfuldt. Smuk pool , lækker høj service og fantastisk mad. Have rundt poolen med palmer,duftende frangipane træer med de smukke hvide blomster. Ren pool, meget høj service generelt overalt og et utrolig sødt og smilende personale. Vi sov på fløjen så havde en lille gåtur men det var fint. Sejlede en enkelt gang med deres shuttlebåd. Også meget flot mulighed. Morgenmaden var overdådig som jeg husker den. Dog er stedet meget stort og meget fyldt hvilket desværre trækker ned på den samlede oplevelse. Det føltes for hektisk og specielt i morgenmaden er der en meget stressende energi. Meget ærgelig da stedet er meget smukt.

It’s a great prime location for getting to see most attractions. Our room was amazing, o looking the river with far reaching views across the vibrant city. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Although we have stayed at the Shangri-La Bangkok before it is some time since our last stay and we spent another 7 days in the Krungthep Wing. The rooms are unchanged and some might find them old fashioned but our room was lovely, comfortable bed and spacious. The bathroom is classical and spacious, there is no soap or shampoo dispenser by the bath though which should be put right. We always carry spare soap fortunately. Our one criticism of the room is that in this day and age we would expect a proper coffee machine in a five star hotel. We made do with the kettle and instant coffee but it is not that nice. The balcony river view is spectacular as always. Breakfast is now served in the Next2 restaurant. It used to be served (as well as evening cocktails and canapes) in the large space at the front of the wing which is now empty. The breakfast selection was excellent but it was extremely busy (at all times) and it is quite a long walk each time. For clients with limited mobility this would be an extreme disadvantage. The pool at the Krungthep Wing is excellent, comfortable sun loungers and great service from all the staff there. It was rarely busy and a pleasure to relax and watch the activity on the busy river. So overall some obvious cutbacks but we enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.

We could find no fault with this amazing hotel with without doubt the most amazing location. The staff are so friendly and attentive they make you feel special. The little added extras from, the courtesy ferry boat direct from the hotel to the Iconsiam shopping mall (which is an amazing place), cocktails with free petit fours to accompany the cocktails. The location is perfect to explore Bangkok and we couldn’t recommend this hotel and its staff more highly.

This hotel is past its sell by date. It may have facilities (spa, pool, room service etc) to call itself 5 star which now it realistically is not. I am sure it was 35 years ago, but now it its merely very tired and living off past glories. The rooms are clean but very very dated, the room air con smells of old, you know a musty smell. The controls are falling apart. They don't even supply soap or gel for the bath tub, you have to get out of the bath and use a glass to get shower gel from the fixed shower dispensers. As a family we have 3 rooms, we would never stay here again, it is not what you would expect from an internationally renowned hotel chain. It is second class compared to genuine 5 star hotels in this wonderful vibrant city.

We flew in from Chiang Rai in the evening so it was mid evening when we got here. Check in was a bit slower than we have been used to in other Bangkok hotels in the area. We had a Horizon Club Room. This had a room with comfy chairs and a small table with another chair by a desk, and a tea/coffee making area with a mini bar as well. There was side room with a table, chair and mirror, a large wardrobe, a suit handing stand and an area which could take 2 large cases. The bedroom had a large double bed as well as a chair and a sofa by the window. A large bathroom, with twin washing basins, a bath and a walking shower, plus more than sufficient towels. Being so high up the room had an amazing view out over the city as well as the river. We were only here one night. The next day breakfast was in the Horizon Club, which is included in the room price. I had expected it to be busy but was pleasantly surprised to find this was not the case, in fact it was quiet. Tea and coffee are served to you and the rest is a pretty extensive buffet. We were able to get a table by a window to continue the view experience. After breakfast we went around what grounds there are which mainly consist of those around the pool area. There were lots of sun loungers as well as trees to provide shade it you want it. Then of course the river and all the river traffic. Our flight out was late evening so we asked if we could keep our room but this was not possible. The reception offered us another room at a small cost. This could not be allocated until after we had checked out. After checking out at 12.00 we went into the Long Bar in the Hotel. This was quiet and much less busy than the rest of the hotel. Very friendly and attentive service and by 13.20 I got a message to say our room was ready. The concierge had our luggage and delivered it to the room. The room was over the hotel entrance but still had a small river view. It was smaller than the Horizon room but had all you would need if you were staying there several nights. Due to our flight time, we wanted a meal at c.16.00 and decided to have room service. This was a very good meal and was served up very nicely. Check out was fine. This is a larger hotel than others I have stayed at nearby and has perhaps a more busy, functional atmosphere, however this would certainly not stop me from returning. Given our short stay there are many aspects of the hotel I cannot comment on.

We stayed at the Shangri-La Bangkok for 3 nights. The hotel is in a great location, directly facing ICONSIAM, and the river views are beautiful — especially from higher floors (we were on the 25th floor and the view was fantastic). The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety and high quality. The hotel is in a classic Thai style, so if you are looking for something ultra-modern, this might not be the right choice. However, the overall service is 5-star level. The only downside during our stay was a persistent noise coming from the roof. That said, the staff was very responsive and proactive in trying to resolve the issue, and the technical team made efforts to reduce the disturbance, especially at night. If you are assigned a room on the 25th floor (which offers great views), we recommend checking in advance about possible noise, as it can affect your sleep. Overall, a very good stay with just a few points to improve.

Me and Wife spent 2 nights in the Premier with Balcony overlooking the river on 14th floor. The view is amazing don't get me wrong, but the price is way to high for the standard of that is to low. Looks outdated and tired with to many flaws, 2 towels wich is so small you can't even wrap around your body after a shower, sure you can call the reception for more towels but should be in the room from start, and bigger towels. Breakfast is a extra 1500 pp that should be included in my world for that price we paid for the room, and the breakfast itself is a buffe to boot. All in all we felt we could get more and better quality elsewhere for the money spent.

Die Lage direkt am Fluss und der Blick vom Balkon sind klasse. Zudem sind die Zimmer sehr groß. Das Personal ist - wie überall in Thailand - extrem freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Thai-Restaurant im alten Stil ist ebenfalls aufgrund der Lage direkt am Fluss und eine gute Küche empfehlenswert.

Cons: Ein Riesenkomplex, die Aussage, dass wir in ca. 5 Minuten Fussweg (indoor) in unserem Trakt sind, war zutreffend und äußerst lästig. Bemüht um den Flair eines Grand Hotels entsprachen Ausstattung und Zustand dem allerdings nicht, vieles machte einen etwas abgewohnten Eindruck. Zudem waren die Zimmer trotz Zusage nicht zeitgerecht parat. Freundlicherweise wurde uns dafür ein Frühstück kostenlos zugestanden. Dieses war okay, durch die hohe Belegung (ca. 800 Zimmer) war es aber fast nicht möglich, einen Platz zu finden. Die ca. 35 Euro für das Frühstück (pro Person) hätten uns geärgert. Da geht man doch besser auf die Straße in eines der Cafés.

We visit this hotel since over 40 years. It is still an elegant hotel, though a bit dated, and we especially love the pool and the garden area, overlooking the river. However, we had a bad surprise this year when we arrived: booking.com had cancelled our reservation using my outdated credit card, and not the one l had given when updating my reservation details. They refused to refund the difference of € 980 I had to pay to get the very last room due to the Chinese New Year. I will never use booking.com again when booking this hotel, but use their own reservation system.

I've stayed a few other places (including Kimpton) in Bangkok, and this has been my favorite, hands down. The service was much better and the location was elite with the ferry to ICON Siam next door and I found Bangrak to be a great mixed-vibe neighborhood with a market street and places like Sarnies a quick walk. I had a balcony room in the Krungthep Wing that I really enjoyed.

Cons: I guess you could consider parts of the room outdated, but I still loved the quality and feel. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. I'm sure I will!

There was a time when this property represented the gold standard of riverfront luxury in Bangkok. That time has passed. The rooms are in poor condition. Fixtures are dated, soft furnishings are tired, and basic maintenance issues are far too common for a hotel trading on a luxury promise. What should feel timeless instead feels neglected. Guests are paying premium rates for rooms that would struggle to compete with mid-tier hotels opened in the last decade. More troubling are clear safety concerns. We encountered exposed or poorly finished electrical work that would be unacceptable in any well-run hotel, let alone one positioning itself as a luxury hotel. Cabling, sockets, and temporary fixes appeared inconsistent with basic safety standards. In multiple areas, uneven flooring, loose fittings, and ad hoc repairs have become genuine trip hazards. These are not cosmetic issues. They are risks. We witnessed an elderly lady fall over at breakfast on the broken floor boards, and the staff just watched; two of the managers even laughed. The facilities mirror the same decline. Public areas feel worn, mechanical systems are unreliable, and amenities lack the sharpness expected of an international flagship. The riverside location continues to do the heavy lifting, but even that advantage is being undermined by visible deterioration and a prolonged lack of reinvestment. More concerning than the physical state is the calibre of management. Leadership appears reactive, defensive, and disengaged from the reality on the ground. Issues are downplayed rather than addressed. Feedback is met with rehearsed responses instead of ownership and action. The most disappointing part of our interaction was with senior directors. Statements made during discussions were inconsistent with what was visibly evident at the property and, in our view, lacked candour. Promises of upgrades, standards, and corrective action did not align with the hotel's condition or the outcomes that followed. Trust erodes quickly when leadership communication feels evasive rather than transparent. Miss Yue, the Director of Rooms, should specifically be mentioned for her tone and racist remarks. The wonderful service of Thailand cannot be found at Shangri-la Bangkok. The overall atmosphere is one of fatigue. This is a hotel operating on brand memory, not current excellence. Bangkok has moved on. Competitors have invested heavily in design, infrastructure, systems, and people. This property has not. The lack of investment is so obvious. The lack of honesty and urgency from management is worse. In its current state, this is not a luxury hotel in practice, only in name. Without immediate safety remediation, meaningful reinvestment, and a fundamental reset of leadership accountability, Shangri-La Bangkok risks becoming a textbook example of how complacency quietly dismantles once-great institutions.

Terrible... they delay my check in "Sir ur room not yet ready"... got in the room and found the surprise. Once i reached the room (which they delayed) a cold notice in the desk saying Swimming pool was sold to a private event. The next morning we had the flight at 10 am so basically we had no other choice. NOT a single notice during the check in, not a single notice or an apologie during the check out. Remember you are a guest and welcome only when you can be milked. I was there with my family to relax in the swimming before the long flight of the next day. Over the phone i was told i could have use the other swimming pool in the wing side. They simply forgot to mention the swimming pool was smaller then the bath tube in the room and few seat only.. AND NO SERVICE, and only 10 SUN BEDS! Not to mention how many people were inside which i doubt it was even following safety regulation. This people won't see me anymore, it has been a while Shangri-la Bangkok has been dropping in service quality and this is another confirmation. My fault coz i keep giving them a new chance. NEVER AGAIN, full of options in Bangkok, I will not this mistake again! Previously Manager has replied that the alternative swimming pool is 700 SQM (either he confuse Square meter with Square feet, he has problems with the truth, he is considering also the lobby of the hotel and the parking in the calculation, let you decide). Picture in the attachment. After what i paid i also need to be bullied from this arragant management... unbelievable

Twice promised manager would call me.....never happened Whole hotel has horrible smell about it - as noted by other guests when I checked in Ordered club sandwich in room dining - took 45 minutes to arrive - was cold. Ordered a beer, they forgot, 10 minutes later they bring....yet there is no bottle opener in room, and staff didn't bring one....so had to then wait until 10 minutes for same staff member to go and get a bottle opener....joke. Then had food poisoning next day (only food I had eaten day before was the cold club sandwich) Pool was shut from 4pm due to special event. Worst hotel ever stayed in in Bangkok, and have been here over 20 times....AVOID

I had a wonderful stay at the Shangri-La Bangkok. The staff were absolutely fantastic — warm, attentive, and consistently delivering exceptional service throughout my stay. Early check-in was possible, which I truly appreciated after a long journey. The rooms are slightly dated in style, but they are very comfortable and impeccably clean, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the stay. My only complaint is the lack of a capsule coffee machine in the room, hello Shangri-La, we are in 2026😉 The pool area is beautiful and offers a lovely riverside atmosphere, although it tends to be quite crowded most of the time. The location is another major highlight, with easy access to the BTS, river boats, and nearby food markets — making it incredibly convenient for exploring Bangkok. Overall, a very pleasant experience with outstanding hospitality. I would happily return.

We first came across the Shangi La brand about 30 years ago enjoying memorable stays in KL Penang Tanjung Aru and Rassa Ria in Borneo Hong Kong and also the Shangri La Shard in London. Unfortunateley the Shangri La brand has slipped if the Bangkok hotel is anyting to go by. We arrived at the hotel at 14.20 and our deluxe river view room was not ready. So reception suggested we change into our swim wear in what seemed like a broom cupboard. We got our room about 3.45 and it was on the 17th floor which is one of the two best things about the hotel the other being the breakfast. Our room along with most comunal areas along with both pool areas are in urgennt need of a makeover and refurbishing.First night our bed was not turned and the second day we left the hotel at 8am and returned at 6pm and our room had not been serviced. Coupled with this house keeping needed 3 atempts to fix a gurgling toilet. In short not what we were expecting or looking forward too on the last stop of our joint Cambodia/Bangkok adventure. We are a bit dissapointed but havnt given up entirely on the Shangri La brand but in the future will acess more carefully if our next possible stay at a Shangri La meets our expectations. I'm so happy that we stayed in the Shangri-la again this year. This hotel is fantastic. I have stayed here many times over the years and still feel excited at the thought of staying here. We stayed on the 24th floor which is part of the Horizon club. We were looked after superbly by Qui (who we remember very well from last year) Mimi, Eye, Por and Ploy. Each and everyone were welcoming, polite and very friendly whilst remaining professional. None of them were intrusive but managed to know every time when our glasses were nearly empty and refreshed our drinks. I'm definitely returning to Horizon club next year. The hotel itself was very busy but still had that lovely calm and relaxed feeling about it. We choose to eat breakfast downstairs where there was an extensive range with something for everyone. So once again Thank you to Oui, Mimi, Eye, Por and Ploy. You made our holiday perfect and we look forward to seeing you all and staying in the Shangri-la next year.

We recently completed a 14 night stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. This hotel has probably the best location in Bangkok, with excellent views of the river, across to Icon Siam and is located within minutes of the BTS Saphan Taksin station on the Silom Line that you can walk to via the Hotel's Walkway, through their Krung Thep Wing. We found the hotel to be very comfortable for our two week stay. The breakfast buffet is very extensive and can be enjoyed beside the river, but the highlight for us was the Horizon Club Lounge, situated on the 24th floor with again very impressive views over Bangkok, the river and to Icon Siam. We would highly recommend using the Horizon Club Lounge which has great service and is well worth visiting, especially for breakfast. We would particularly like to mention Gamyui ("Smile"), the charming Chef and Vi who looked after us very well and catered to our specific dietary requirements. All in all, a brilliant stay at the Shangri-La, Bangkok and we look forward to a return visit soon. Highly recommended !

We stayed in room 2018, which was a premier balcony king. Absolutely gorgeous view of the river. Bay windows over the tub, best bath ever. Staff was all very nice and helpful. Such a beautiful large lobby, and gorgeous pool area. The landscaping feels so lush in the middle of the city. BTS very convenient right at the property, and we enjoyed walking through the Bang Rak neighborhood around the property. We came in very late at night and really got a lot of value from the airport limo. On the way back to the airport, there was a wonderful Shangri-La representative that helped us navigate through the chaos of the airport. She was an absolute angel. One thing to note that the river cruises at night are very fun to watch, but they are a bit noisy even up on the 20th floor. I do wish the specialty coffee shop in the lobby was open earlier in the morning.

Cons: Hotel was trapped in 1982 - very brown, very dated, even the lampshades were breaking down on the lamps. For a luxury hotel, the room lacked the absolute basics you would expect. No coffee machine - just an old kettle and two crushed up Nescafe sachets (no milk if that were your preference!!). Mini bar was barely supplied. Three cans of soda, a beer, and -for some unknown reason - they chose to chill a mini tube of Pringles! No USB charging points for devices and the TV was new on every channel - good luck if you're in bed an fancy a movie before sleeping. Recommend bring all your devices (download movies and shows before you leave), bring plenty of USB charging cables and international socket adapters! Food was sub-par. The was a notable absence of any seasoning. When asking for extra salt, this started a five minute back and forth of the staff thinking I wanted no salt whereas all i was asking for was a full salt cellar I could administer the basics so as to raise my electrolyte levels to their bare minimum. I was there for a week and they closed the main swimming pool twice for "private events".

La vue est belle et intéressante mais le bruit de la circulation ambiante ne permet pas d'en profiter longtemps. Le service est impeccable et le petit déjeuner exceptionnel. Il y a deux piscines très agréables.

Breakfast at Next2 was fabulous. Plenty of selection and dining right by the river is amazing! Room is comfortable, had one of the best sleeps in recent time.

Cons: Krungthep wing is a little too quiet. While not 100% dead it falls short in comparison to its exclusivity compared to the garden wing in Shangri-La Singapore.

Cons: Die Bezüge der Liegen am Pool sind sehr schmutzig Der Boden auf der Frühstücksterrasse ist sehr abgenutzt. An der Rezeption gibt es meist Warteschlangen. Aufpassen, es gibt Zimmer in einem Nebengebäude die zwar eine schlecht beschriftete Verbindung zum Hauptgebäude haben, aber ganz schön weit entfernt sind. Ich würde es nicht mehr wählen… die Koffer müssen mit dem Auto dort hin gebracht werden.

The service at breakfast was exceptional and I commend the staff on how well they coped with the large number of guests ;and service always with a smile. The breakfast buffet selection was very good and was constantly being topped up. Despite the large number of guests there was little queuing at the various food stations. I was staying in the Krungthep wing and whilst the distance to the Next Cafe is no problem for the healthy it is not that easy for someone with arthritic hips and so I would suggest that some form of seating could be put in place at various points along the corridor.

Cons: The Krungthep wing has no facilities , so maybe for those not wanting to go to the Shangri-La some sort of beverage facility could be provided in the lobby.

There wasn’t a PowerPoint next to the bed so charging phones on bedside table wasn’t possible. There wasn’t a power point in the bathroom either. There was only one located in main room that needed to be used for all purposes which made it a bit inconvenient. Also wifi was super slow and as a result was not able to be used.

Cons: We arrived quite late and had asked for a separate additional bed to be placed in the room this was done 6 hours before our arrival at least however it didn't seem possible or it was too much effort for the hotel staff to arrange in advance even though they were quite clearly asked there was email photographic evidence of the request for the bed additional bed in the suite when I arrived they tried to pretend that I hadn't asked for it and that they had no record of it and it was only when I clearly demonstrated that they had not only received my request but also confirmed back to me that there would be an additional charge that was not agreed was chucked in at the last minute it was quite a lot but it directly contrary veined their denial of having been told about the extra bed request this was not the only thing because the hotel is absolutely Ramd to capacity and all the staff are working very hard but the breakfast was so very crowded it was really unpleasant there was a big cue for the breakfast because it was so many people I can say that it was not a very nice experience it definitely would not go there again it's overpriced it's a little bit shabby for a high class Hotel and there are so many other better options I must say I was very disappointed

Staff were incredibly nice, I left my wallet in the taxi on the way there and they jumped into action to help me reach the taxi driver and return the wallet. The free boat ride to ICON SIAM was very convenient. The view from the hotel (riverfront) is incredible. Overall, great stay!

Frühstücksservice etwas chaotisch ( der Menschenmassen geschuldet) Am Pool wurden vom Personal morgens Liegen für Gäste reserviert, die erst Stunden später ( nach Mittag) an den Pool kamen. Bei der hohen Auslastung des Hotels , finde ich das den anderen Gästen unfair gegenüber.

The breakfast was really good. Good variety of food. The location, though far from the Sukhumvit area, is easy to access. The Saphan Taksin train station is a 5 minute walk away and takes you directly to Siam. You can also interchange on to the Sukhumvit line to access other places. The pier is also a 5 minute walk away and there is a complimentary hotel hourly service that takes you directly to Icon Siam. We enjoyed our stay at Shang ri La.

Cons: The size of the bath towels could be bigger. Inflexibility during breakfast. We were meant to leave for Ayuthayya very early in the morning but they didn't let us into the breakfast lounge until the clock hit 6.30. When we asked whether we could get in earlier by a few minutes they said no. However, when we entered the lounge, we found another guest who had, quite obviously been let in earlier than everyone else and was almost through with his meal.

Krungthep Building is at a near perfect situation on the Chao Phraya River. Public transport by train or boat around the corner. Good restaurants nearby. Spectacular view from the Krungthep room balconies. Choose high floor and room numbers above 55 (e.g 1465). Get a bottle of wine from the nearby store (Tops Silom). Sit on the balcony and watch the tugboats pull trains of barges upriver. All kinds of ferries and passenger boats abound. Come evening the spectacle of lit up cruise boats with loud music and tourists frenetically dancing. What a show ! Truly outstanding breakfast

Spacious room with fantastic river view but what happend to the "best breakfast in town" and to the respective service? Besides a fairly good patissery there' been an every day same-same standard 4* choice with low product quality (e.g. few meat dishes ("Where's the beef?"), basic Sushi w/o salmon/tuna, very simple Dim Sum). Special fruits and special cheese are gone immediately and were rarely replenished. 2nd coffee waiting time last's a breakfast while the low numbered but relaxed staff doesn't clear the used dishes but ignore the pigeons, who are having a feast on the table while an outdoor guest is getting more food! Enough whining about the good ol' times when food and service were better tha average at Shangri-La!

Great hotel with first class service in a fantastic location right beside the river, very close to the BTS skytrain and pier for the ferry boats. The Horizon lounge is very good for food and drinks. Top tip is to stay in the Shangri la wing and walk through to the other wing on the 3rd floor, this brings you out right beside the ferry and BTS station without having to walk all round the hotel in the 30 plus degree heat. I also suggest using the hotel limo as the Bangkok traffics can be horrendous

Beautiful hotel in a great location by the river. Rooms are a good size with a great bathroom and nice quality toiletries. Very clean and comfortable with a complimentary mini bar and ample drinking water. The breakfast buffet is vast with something for everyone. We preferred to sit outside which was calmer than the inside seating area. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and polite. We can definitely recommend this hotel.

We were really glad we had booked a hotel with a river location as it was so much easier to use the river transport to get to places than take taxis. The Shangri La facilities were very good, our room in the Krungthep wing was large and quiet, the furnishings were a little tired and dated but everything worked. There was a short walk to access breakfast in the main wing, but that was fine for us. We used the outside bar a few times for an after dinner drink and used the smaller pool nearer to our wing when we wanted a swim, appreciating the river views at each. As others have commented, the breakfast buffet was huge, but cleared very promptly at 10.30, we would have appreciated an extension till 11. Overall we enjoyed our stay, staff were so helpful and we were pleased we chose the Shangri La.

Cons: We had booked the Krungthep wing so we could have a balcony room, however didn’t use the balcony as much as we had hoped to as the nearby road made sitting out pretty noisy.

The Hotel is beautiful and staff are attentive but once they were busy it became chaotic- The last day was spoilt by the influx of a large party for a conference ( 21/01/2026) and they could not cope so spoilt what was a lovely start The 2 restaurants for evening meal were beautifully and relaxed on the quiet and that is what we expected but on the last day we waited 50 minutes for a drink at breakfast and had actually finished breakfast before it arrived - very sad experience to what should have been a lovely stay - you can see from my feedback that We stay in some beautiful hotels and have never experienced such a chaotic service at breakfast and sadly this will stop us coming back - i’m not one to complain but in my opinion they should be big enough to cope if they take the bookings and my thoughts are it will be like today when at full occupancy- certainly from that experience it doesn’t deserve 5 stars - To gain stars the hotel is not just about the building and opulence but it’s about the whole experience

Bei meiner Abreise habe ich Pass und Cash im Hotelsafe vergessen und es erst nach meiner 6 stündigen Reise in den Süden festgestellt. Ein Anruf beim Shangri La und sie haben mir alles per Kurier nach geschickt...ohne Kosten!!! Unglaublich...ich bin sehr beeindruckt...Herzlichen Dank!!!

Had worst hotel experience ever. Hotels keeps forgetting that check-in is makes or breaks your stay. When arriving at hotel, needed to go to ATM to pay Taxi (after agreeing to pay with card), in the hotel 2 staff members send me in the wrong direction, after they forgot to took my luggage out of the taxi (after explicitly asking them when I searched for the ATM) . When finally arriving at check in, a cold and distracted lady gave my room key. Not worth its 5 stars nor its money. Rooms smelled bad (like somebody smoked in there) and look like something from then 90ies

After five previous visits to Thailand, we finally stayed at the Shangri La, and I can tell you it was a decision well made. This was a step back in time to the grand hotels and the way they were supposed to be. If you like modern and minimalist then this place is not for you. On the other hand, should you be one for tradition and timeless elegance and old school luxury, then step inside and take your fill. We stayed in a River View Executive Suite, which was spacious and with a nice outside area from which I viewed both the river and the city. The bed was soft and comfortable, and the room was very clean. All standard stuff of course, but for me, the highlight was the Long Bar which is located in the grand lobby lounge area. Now THAT is what a bar should be. It excelled in its elegance and the service was great, making us feel right at home on our first night in Thailand. There was an issue with being overcharged for the hotel’s transport, but this was sorted out (you just need to exercise some patience with such things). The swimming pool had a problem with people reserving sunbeds then going off and leaving them, even though there were signs stating do not do this, but I suppose for some nationalities they don’t care. Anyway, the team around the pool found us a couple of beds and were clearly doing their best, which we appreciated. We had breakfast in the Horizon Lounge, which was very nice up on the 24th floor with a smashing view of the river. You’ll get a huge choice of food in the main restaurant, but we found the lounge more suitable to our needs, seeing as my wife is disabled. The staff were very welcoming. In short, despite some cracks around the edges, the sheer elegance of the Shangri La and the lovely feeling of this traditional classic hotel wins the day for me, and is well worth its five stars because of this. If you like old school luxury, comfort and hospitality then step right in. I would definitely return.

arriving last night we had wonderful service at reception and asked for a dinner reservation in your restaurant. I was however, appalled to find that no one in your restaurant could show me gluten free options in the buffet, and that your menu merely outlined all of the dishes which had gluten in them but nothing for me to understand what I could eat. Again tonight trying to to order room service your menu states G for gluten on almost every item and only in the pasta section do you mention you have a gluten free option available. No soups, no sandwiches or curries are gluten free. At a seemingly international five star hotel this is totally unacceptable and not the standard of welcoming or service I expect to receive. Your staff need training and understanding of gluten allergy to make your growing number of gluten allergic guests feel safe and welcome to eat in your establishment. Unfortunately I will not feel comfortable to stay at shangri la again in the near future in Bangkok or anywhere else that I travel.

The rooms are very comfortable - good bed and great sheets/pillows. Free safety deposit box which is good, a fantastic shower and lots of free water and complimentary mini bar (not restocked). The water was replenished which is very welcome. Air conditioning worked well and the room was quiet and roomy. Nice touch is the subtle lighting at night in the room and bathroom (more hotels need to do this!). The security on entry (scanning bags and metal detectors you ignore anyway when they go off?) is overkill and unwelcoming as is the need to leave a deposit CHARGED to card yet not refunded despite me not wishing or intending to run up a tab… I have never had that before. The shuttle over the river is useful, it should run more often though and later into the evening (last one is 5:30) like the hotel opposite does. The pool and sun terrace areas were good and the riverside location is great. Breakfast was massive choice and I’d recommend. Bar prices are crazy high though, I know it’s a decent hotel but this is Thailand! Overall good stay but I wouldn’t choose here to return to.

Cons: 辦理入住手續很慢，差不多要30分鐘，而且房間安排錯誤，我訂的是雙床房，上到房間時才發現安排的是大床房，弄得要客人再到櫃台等待，最後安排了正確的雙床房，但樽裝水及毛巾只安排單人的，以一家5星級的酒店來說，不太專業，有點失望。由於沒有整理房間的提示燈，希望能提供整理房間的掛牌，方便客人。 Health Club 的更衣室有蒸氣房及桑拿設施，於晚上10時關閉，當晚大約晚上8點50分使用設施，在門口登記時工作人員黑面並警告晚上9時45分便要離開，態度極不友善，而且打掃的工作人員不停在更衣室內觀察徘徊，嚴重影響使用人士，服務有待改善。

Service was second to none and very impressed. It was wonderful sitting at the bar at the hotel & watching the river and changes from dusk to night. So many different boats with lights. The Horizon Club was fabulous & seat by the windows with excellent service and cocktails. Breakfast buffet was busy but a great spread. Wonderful hotel & worth the price!

Main breakfast area overlooking river would have been lovely but some of the facilities (breakfast area and swimming pool area) are overstretched because of the capacity of the hotel ..

Cons: Queuing for a table at breakfast unless you wanted to go at 6:30am! No beds at pool after 9 am as guests put towels down and then leave before returning later

In an area we wanted to be and had stayed several times previously, so thought we knew what we would get.

Cons: Terrible experience on arrival, room was not ready nor as booked. Took more than 5 hours to get our room, and even then there were issues. Coffee in the morning didn’t arrive as ordered, had to chase staff over and over again for hot drinks.

Our stay at the Shangri-La Bangkok was absolutely exceptional from beginning to end. From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome and genuine hospitality of the staff made us feel truly valued and at home. The service throughout the hotel is flawless—attentive, professional, and always delivered with a smile. Our room was immaculate, beautifully maintained, and extremely comfortable. Housekeeping standards are outstanding, with a level of cleanliness that clearly reflects the hotel’s commitment to excellence. Dining was a real highlight of our stay. The Salathip restaurant offers not only delicious and refined Thai cuisine, but also a stunning riverside setting and impeccable service, making the experience truly memorable. The breakfast buffet is among the best we have ever experienced, with an impressive variety of high-quality dishes, fresh ingredients, and a wide selection of both international and Asian options, all served in a calm and elegant atmosphere. The Shangri-La Bangkok perfectly combines luxury, comfort, and heartfelt service. We highly recommend this hotel and very much look forward to returning in the future.

The Shangri-La Bangkok remains a truly high-end establishment, distinguished above all by an exceptional quality of service. The staff are generally attentive, professional, and genuinely eager to please, which greatly enhances the hotel’s prestige and the overall comfort of the stay. However, certain issues unfortunately detract from the experience. We repeatedly encountered problems with deactivated key cards, preventing access to our room. This required us to return to the reception desk each time, where waiting times were often long due to the high number of guests. Such recurring malfunctions are particularly disappointing in an establishment of this calibre. The breakfast is absolutely gargantuan, offering an impressive variety and excellent quality. That said, it is regrettable to observe the behaviour of some guests, who are not very respectful and help themselves in an excessive and disorderly manner. This occasionally creates a rather disheartening atmosphere, not fully in keeping with the elegance and refinement of the venue. Finally, one particularly disappointing point concerns the behaviour of certain staff members at the swimming pool. We unfortunately noticed that access to the best sun-exposed loungers sometimes appeared to depend on offering a prior tip, which is deeply regrettable — even shocking — in an establishment of this category. Such practices are not worthy of the Shangri-La’s reputation and deserve serious attention from management. In summary, this is a hotel offering exceptional facilities and generally impeccable service, but certain operational issues and isolated behaviours detract from the experience and should be addressed in order to fully live up to its renowned reputation.

I do not ordinarily leave a review of hotels on Tripadvisor unless I had a really bad experience which I would then feel compelled to share. This is going to be a long review which I hope would be useful to other travelers considering a stay. I booked the Krungthep Wing to stay specifically for the NYE fireworks (because Mandarin Oriental was fully booked :(). While the view was indeed what I paid for, the overall experience at this 5-star hotel was not very welcoming. Krungthep Wing is situated closer to Saphan Taksin BTS and Sathorn Pier, making it easily accessible to either the opposite (where IconSiam is) or Central Bangkok where I arrived from. Location wise, it is unbeatable and I much prefer this wing than the Shangri-La Wing which is crowded and smack in the action (think chaos). When I first arrived, I got weird stares from the bell hop. I don’t blame them because a 5-star hotel likely does not receive many guests arriving in just a backpack and dressed in the Thailand elephant tee (I am proud of the elephant tee which I got at Chiangmai btw). I only got the welcoming smile from the reception when I told them I was checking in. The check in was swift and I had my room well before the check in time which was a pleasant start. After a short rest in the room, I decided to check out the other parts of the hotel (kudos to reception on this though I am so sorry I didn’t get the name of the lovely female receptionist). However, it was strange that there were no signs in the lift to the pool or gym and I was also not informed by the reception of its whereabouts (not a problem to me). After wandering around the lobby, I finally found a sign that says “Pool” at the corner of the lobby. I was quite surprised at the pool crowd since many reviews said this wing was more exclusive and saw lesser people. I proceeded to take a photo of the pool for a hotel review when I was stopped by a chef in white uniform (I believed his name is Chef Stef - don’t mean to name names in my review but I just wanted to ensure the review is directed at the correct personnel). What happened next made me feel absolutely not welcomed (and baffling to a certain extent). He proceeded to ask why I was at the pool and to quote exactly what he said “this area is reserved for guests”. He then stood there with a questioning look even when I responded that I am a guest of the hotel. He only changed his tone when I pulled out my room key and he then proceeded to make a joke out of his behaviour “Now you can be assured that the security at this hotel is top notched”. To be honest, I do not think he had looked at me from a security point of view because this should have been undertaken by the appropriate personnel (there was already security at the entrances of Shangri-La checking bags before everyone enters). His words made a guest felt targeted just because I am not dressed to the tee unlike other guests. Having some service industry background in the past, I can accept service lapses (personnel may be on the job training), but definitely not such a targeted behaviour at a hotel, much less from a 5-star hotel. As a seasoned traveler and having stayed in other 5-6 star properties, I can say this is the first time I had experienced such an incident and it has indeed left a poor impression. I am just glad that I did not book to stay throughout at Shangri La for my week long trip in Bangkok. The other aspects of my stay were relatively average. There was nothing “wow” unlike the other hotel I am staying at in Bangkok where service was top notch. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience at Shangri-La and probably would not return. I am sure the Guest Experience will respond to this review with a generic “sorry for your disappointing experience, but rest assure we will take your feedback seriously and improve and hope to be given a chance to welcome you again blah blah” which to me does little to nothing to change the poor impression. What 5-star hotels really need to understand is guests will forever remember how you made them feel on that first time that they stay.
