Location-close to Icon Siam, hotel has own water taxi to Icon Siam, close to palace, close to street food, has own elegant dinner cruise, breakfast was good with many options including outdoor grill, hamburger and Caesar salad at Volpi restaurant was very good. Cons: Huge teaming hotel and the pool was closed when we wanted to use it because they rent it out for events. Rooms feel dated in aesthetics, though well maintained, not worn.

Belles et vastes piscines, magnifique terrasse arborรฉe, on peut dรฎner dans les pavillons thaรฏ en teck au bord du fleuve, charmants.
Cons: Quoique confortables, les chambres mรฉriteraient un rafraรฎchissement. Le rapport qualitรฉ-prix de l'hรฉbergement est excellent, mais l'hรดtel se rattrape sur le tarif des prestations.

The swimming pool and facilities are amazing, a little oasis in the centre of Bangkok. The rooms are a little dated but the quality and comfort cannot be denied. The service was excellent, all the staff were incredibly attentive and polite, we had a great one night stay.
Cons: cant really complain about anything, the one thing to bear in mind is that it is a very large hotel so it can be quite busy at times.

Cons: Wir wurden in einem โtotenโ Seitenflรผgel untergebracht in dem nichts vorhanden war. Der Frรผhstรผcksraum war nicht offen. Frรผhstรผck gab es nur im Hauptgebรคude. Hier war es total รผberfรผllt und man musste auf alles warten. Die Auswahl war riesig aber die Qualitรคt liess bei vielen Speisen zu wรผnschen รผbrig. Im Durchschnitt hielt sich die Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft des Personals in Grenzen.

The breakfast was really good. Good variety of food. The location, though far from the Sukhumvit area, is easy to access. The Saphan Taksin train station is a 5 minute walk away and takes you directly to Siam. You can also interchange on to the Sukhumvit line to access other places. The pier is also a 5 minute walk away and there is a complimentary hotel hourly service that takes you directly to Icon Siam. We enjoyed our stay at Shang ri La.
Cons: The size of the bath towels could be bigger. Inflexibility during breakfast. We were meant to leave for Ayuthayya very early in the morning but they didn't let us into the breakfast lounge until the clock hit 6.30. When we asked whether we could get in earlier by a few minutes they said no. However, when we entered the lounge, we found another guest who had, quite obviously been let in earlier than everyone else and was almost through with his meal.

Room spacious and comfortable with river view. Breakfast included and very good. Overall good value for money as relatively cheap for five star hotel and excellent location.
Cons: The Krungthep wing of the hotel, once very elegant - I have stayed there 3 or 4 times over the last 20 years - is now distinctly faded and forlorn. It requires complete refurbishment. That said, it is not without its quirky charm and offers good value for money. Not a hotel for those who want state of the art five star glamour and glitz and are happy to pay for it .

Ca 25 m lang. Tolles Gym. Boots-Shuttle zum anderen Ufer und zum Shoppingcenter Iconsiam. Sehr sehenswert. Vor allem der dortige Foodcourt. Skytrain-Station gleich hinterm Hotel, auch der Pier und Bootsanlegestelle.

Krungthep Building is at a near perfect situation on the Chao Phraya River. Public transport by train or boat around the corner. Good restaurants nearby. Spectacular view from the Krungthep room balconies. Choose high floor and room numbers above 55 (e.g 1465). Get a bottle of wine from the nearby store (Tops Silom). Sit on the balcony and watch the tugboats pull trains of barges upriver. All kinds of ferries and passenger boats abound. Come evening the spectacle of lit up cruise boats with loud music and tourists frenetically dancing. What a show ! Truly outstanding breakfast

Horizon club lounge is a plus, the size of executive room a more than decent. The staff was super helpful and nice. The plus is when you have the shangri-la app.
Cons: I'm still young thus find it not a great place to stay if you want to be nearby the nightlife. Like most of hotel in warm countries the AC. The indication to the 8THB shuttle was not accurate.

Cons: The breakfast restaurant was very poorly laid out. The staff could have been more informative I.e explaining the layout and facilities. There was no information brochure in bedroom ( digital doesnโt suit everyone). Compared to other Shangri la hotel chain, this was tired and needs an overhaul

Spacious room with fantastic river view but what happend to the "best breakfast in town" and to the respective service? Besides a fairly good patissery there' been an every day same-same standard 4* choice with low product quality (e.g. few meat dishes ("Where's the beef?"), basic Sushi w/o salmon/tuna, very simple Dim Sum). Special fruits and special cheese are gone immediately and were rarely replenished. 2nd coffee waiting time last's a breakfast while the low numbered but relaxed staff doesn't clear the used dishes but ignore the pigeons, who are having a feast on the table while an outdoor guest is getting more food! Enough whining about the good ol' times when food and service were better tha average at Shangri-La!

Cons: Das Boot des Hotels zum Iconsiam fรคhrt nur bis 17.30 Uhr..Es kรถnnte bis 22 Uhr fahren, solange wie dort alles geรถffnet hat. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Balkon . Diese sind in dem anderen Gebรคude, welches sehr nah an der Brรผcke ist. Das konnte man aus den Unterlagen nicht ersehen.

Great hotel with first class service in a fantastic location right beside the river, very close to the BTS skytrain and pier for the ferry boats. The Horizon lounge is very good for food and drinks. Top tip is to stay in the Shangri la wing and walk through to the other wing on the 3rd floor, this brings you out right beside the ferry and BTS station without having to walk all round the hotel in the 30 plus degree heat. I also suggest using the hotel limo as the Bangkok traffics can be horrendous

We went back after 23 years, enjoyed reminiscing.
Cons: We had booked 2 rooms at the same time, we were out on the 5th & 10th floors. We were unable to get to my daughterโs room on the different floor because the lift didnโt let you. When I had a bath I had a long dark hair stuck to my arm, definitely not mine. We had to wait 15 mins extra for the room to be checked over. The receptionist tried to give me a double plus a twin, I booked 2 doubles and that was sorted out.

Beautiful hotel in a great location by the river. Rooms are a good size with a great bathroom and nice quality toiletries. Very clean and comfortable with a complimentary mini bar and ample drinking water. The breakfast buffet is vast with something for everyone. We preferred to sit outside which was calmer than the inside seating area. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and polite. We can definitely recommend this hotel.

We were really glad we had booked a hotel with a river location as it was so much easier to use the river transport to get to places than take taxis. The Shangri La facilities were very good, our room in the Krungthep wing was large and quiet, the furnishings were a little tired and dated but everything worked. There was a short walk to access breakfast in the main wing, but that was fine for us. We used the outside bar a few times for an after dinner drink and used the smaller pool nearer to our wing when we wanted a swim, appreciating the river views at each. As others have commented, the breakfast buffet was huge, but cleared very promptly at 10.30, we would have appreciated an extension till 11. Overall we enjoyed our stay, staff were so helpful and we were pleased we chose the Shangri La.
Cons: We had booked the Krungthep wing so we could have a balcony room, however didnโt use the balcony as much as we had hoped to as the nearby road made sitting out pretty noisy.

The Hotel is beautiful and staff are attentive but once they were busy it became chaotic- The last day was spoilt by the influx of a large party for a conference ( 21/01/2026) and they could not cope so spoilt what was a lovely start The 2 restaurants for evening meal were beautifully and relaxed on the quiet and that is what we expected but on the last day we waited 50 minutes for a drink at breakfast and had actually finished breakfast before it arrived - very sad experience to what should have been a lovely stay - you can see from my feedback that We stay in some beautiful hotels and have never experienced such a chaotic service at breakfast and sadly this will stop us coming back - iโm not one to complain but in my opinion they should be big enough to cope if they take the bookings and my thoughts are it will be like today when at full occupancy- certainly from that experience it doesnโt deserve 5 stars - To gain stars the hotel is not just about the building and opulence but itโs about the whole experience

Had worst hotel experience ever. Hotels keeps forgetting that check-in is makes or breaks your stay. When arriving at hotel, needed to go to ATM to pay Taxi (after agreeing to pay with card), in the hotel 2 staff members send me in the wrong direction, after they forgot to took my luggage out of the taxi (after explicitly asking them when I searched for the ATM) . When finally arriving at check in, a cold and distracted lady gave my room key. Not worth its 5 stars nor its money. Rooms smelled bad (like somebody smoked in there) and look like something from then 90ies

After five previous visits to Thailand, we finally stayed at the Shangri La, and I can tell you it was a decision well made. This was a step back in time to the grand hotels and the way they were supposed to be. If you like modern and minimalist then this place is not for you. On the other hand, should you be one for tradition and timeless elegance and old school luxury, then step inside and take your fill. We stayed in a River View Executive Suite, which was spacious and with a nice outside area from which I viewed both the river and the city. The bed was soft and comfortable, and the room was very clean. All standard stuff of course, but for me, the highlight was the Long Bar which is located in the grand lobby lounge area. Now THAT is what a bar should be. It excelled in its elegance and the service was great, making us feel right at home on our first night in Thailand. There was an issue with being overcharged for the hotelโs transport, but this was sorted out (you just need to exercise some patience with such things). The swimming pool had a problem with people reserving sunbeds then going off and leaving them, even though there were signs stating do not do this, but I suppose for some nationalities they donโt care. Anyway, the team around the pool found us a couple of beds and were clearly doing their best, which we appreciated. We had breakfast in the Horizon Lounge, which was very nice up on the 24th floor with a smashing view of the river. Youโll get a huge choice of food in the main restaurant, but we found the lounge more suitable to our needs, seeing as my wife is disabled. The staff were very welcoming. In short, despite some cracks around the edges, the sheer elegance of the Shangri La and the lovely feeling of this traditional classic hotel wins the day for me, and is well worth its five stars because of this. If you like old school luxury, comfort and hospitality then step right in. I would definitely return.

The room card key did not work and after 1 hour failed maintenance we were moved to another room after many suggestions from me that is what they should do straight away. Offered a gratis bottle of red wine as apology even though I said I don't drink. No other compensatory offer was made. All in all it was a disastrous stay and I shall not be recommending Shangri la in Bangkok.

arriving last night we had wonderful service at reception and asked for a dinner reservation in your restaurant. I was however, appalled to find that no one in your restaurant could show me gluten free options in the buffet, and that your menu merely outlined all of the dishes which had gluten in them but nothing for me to understand what I could eat. Again tonight trying to to order room service your menu states G for gluten on almost every item and only in the pasta section do you mention you have a gluten free option available. No soups, no sandwiches or curries are gluten free. At a seemingly international five star hotel this is totally unacceptable and not the standard of welcoming or service I expect to receive. Your staff need training and understanding of gluten allergy to make your growing number of gluten allergic guests feel safe and welcome to eat in your establishment. Unfortunately I will not feel comfortable to stay at shangri la again in the near future in Bangkok or anywhere else that I travel.

The rooms are very comfortable - good bed and great sheets/pillows. Free safety deposit box which is good, a fantastic shower and lots of free water and complimentary mini bar (not restocked). The water was replenished which is very welcome. Air conditioning worked well and the room was quiet and roomy. Nice touch is the subtle lighting at night in the room and bathroom (more hotels need to do this!). The security on entry (scanning bags and metal detectors you ignore anyway when they go off?) is overkill and unwelcoming as is the need to leave a deposit CHARGED to card yet not refunded despite me not wishing or intending to run up a tabโฆ I have never had that before. The shuttle over the river is useful, it should run more often though and later into the evening (last one is 5:30) like the hotel opposite does. The pool and sun terrace areas were good and the riverside location is great. Breakfast was massive choice and Iโd recommend. Bar prices are crazy high though, I know itโs a decent hotel but this is Thailand! Overall good stay but I wouldnโt choose here to return to.

What an amazing hotel! Very impressed. Booked a horizon club room & paid for an upgrade to a suite and could not be happier. The suite was large and spotless with universal charging points. Service was second to none and very impressed. It was wonderful sitting at the bar at the hotel & watching the river and changes from dusk to night. So many different boats with lights. The Horizon Club was fabulous & seat by the windows with excellent service and cocktails. Breakfast buffet was busy but a great spread. Wonderful hotel & worth the price!

Housekeeping standards are outstanding, with a level of cleanliness that clearly reflects the hotelโs commitment to excellence. Dining was a real highlight of our stay. The Salathip restaurant offers not only delicious and refined Thai cuisine, but also a stunning riverside setting and impeccable service, making the experience truly memorable. The breakfast buffet is among the best we have ever experienced, with an impressive variety of high-quality dishes, fresh ingredients, and a wide selection of both international and Asian options, all served in a calm and elegant atmosphere. The Shangri-La Bangkok remains a truly high-end establishment, distinguished above all by an exceptional quality of service. The staff are generally attentive, professional, and genuinely eager to please, which greatly enhances the hotelโs prestige and the overall comfort of the stay. However, certain issues unfortunately detract from the experience. We repeatedly encountered problems with deactivated key cards, preventing access to our room. This required us to return to the reception desk each time, where waiting times were often long due to the high number of guests. Such recurring malfunctions are particularly disappointing in an establishment of this calibre. The breakfast is absolutely gargantuan, offering an impressive variety and excellent quality. That said, it is regrettable to observe the behaviour of some guests, who are not very respectful and help themselves in an excessive and disorderly manner. This occasionally creates a rather disheartening atmosphere, not fully in keeping with the elegance and refinement of the venue. Finally, one particularly disappointing point concerns the behaviour of certain staff members at the swimming pool. We unfortunately noticed that access to the best sun-exposed loungers sometimes appeared to depend on offering a prior tip, which is deeply regrettable โ even shocking โ in an establishment of this category. Such practices are not worthy of the Shangri-Laโs reputation and deserve serious attention from management. In summary, this is a hotel offering exceptional facilities and generally impeccable service, but certain operational issues and isolated behaviours detract from the experience and should be addressed in order to fully live up to its renowned reputation.

I do not ordinarily leave a review of hotels on Tripadvisor unless I had a really bad experience which I would then feel compelled to share. This is going to be a long review which I hope would be useful to other travelers considering a stay. I booked the Krungthep Wing to stay specifically for the NYE fireworks (because Mandarin Oriental was fully booked :(). While the view was indeed what I paid for, the overall experience at this 5-star hotel was not very welcoming. Krungthep Wing is situated closer to Saphan Taksin BTS and Sathorn Pier, making it easily accessible to either the opposite (where IconSiam is) or Central Bangkok where I arrived from. Location wise, it is unbeatable and I much prefer this wing than the Shangri-La Wing which is crowded and smack in the action (think chaos). When I first arrived, I got weird stares from the bell hop. I donโt blame them because a 5-star hotel likely does not receive many guests arriving in just a backpack and dressed in the Thailand elephant tee (I am proud of the elephant tee which I got at Chiangmai btw). I only got the welcoming smile from the reception when I told them I was checking in. The check in was swift and I had my room well before the check in time which was a pleasant start. After a short rest in the room, I decided to check out the other parts of the hotel (kudos to reception on this though I am so sorry I didnโt get the name of the lovely female receptionist). However, it was strange that there were no signs in the lift to the pool or gym and I was also not informed by the reception of its whereabouts (not a problem to me). After wandering around the lobby, I finally found a sign that says โPoolโ at the corner of the lobby. I was quite surprised at the pool crowd since many reviews said this wing was more exclusive and saw lesser people. I proceeded to take a photo of the pool for a hotel review when I was stopped by a chef in white uniform (I believed his name is Chef Stef - donโt mean to name names in my review but I just wanted to ensure the review is directed at the correct personnel). What happened next made me feel absolutely not welcomed (and baffling to a certain extent). He proceeded to ask why I was at the pool and to quote exactly what he said โthis area is reserved for guestsโ. He then stood there with a questioning look even when I responded that I am a guest of the hotel. He only changed his tone when I pulled out my room key and he then proceeded to make a joke out of his behaviour โNow you can be assured that the security at this hotel is top notchedโ. To be honest, I do not think he had looked at me from a security point of view because this should have been undertaken by the appropriate personnel (there was already security at the entrances of Shangri-La checking bags before everyone enters). His words made a guest felt targeted just because I am not dressed to the tee unlike other guests. Having some service industry background in the past, I can accept service lapses (personnel may be on the job training), but definitely not such a targeted behaviour at a hotel, much less from a 5-star hotel. As a seasoned traveler and having stayed in other 5-6 star properties, I can say this is the first time I had experienced such an incident and it has indeed left a poor impression. I am just glad that I did not book to stay throughout at Shangri La for my week long trip in Bangkok. The other aspects of my stay were relatively average. There was nothing โwowโ unlike the other hotel I am staying at in Bangkok where service was top notch. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience at Shangri-La and probably would not return. I am sure the Guest Experience will respond to this review with a generic โsorry for your disappointing experience, but rest assure we will take your feedback seriously and improve and hope to be given a chance to welcome you again blah blahโ which to me does little to nothing to change the poor impression. What 5-star hotels really need to understand is guests will forever remember how you made them feel on that first time that they stay.

My wife and I stay at the Shangri la as we love the service and attention to detail given by the staff, especially at the Horizon Club. This year we had to return to Australia urgently because of a complication my wife incurred from a previous operation. I could not give enough praise to the staff at the Horizen Club ( Sasa, Wannisa, Oui and Ploy) for their assistance, empathy and consideration in assisting us with leaving early. Nothing was a problem for them. I hope that hotel management see this review and they compliment their staff for the excellent service given to us, it was truely appreciated.

Service & standards as you'd expect, beautiful room with fabulous views. We checked in late evening following a long haul flight when there were fewer staff on reception. We hadn't waited long, but they immediately apologized, recognised it was our first stay with the hotel brand and that we'd booked room only and gave us breakfast for our time there, top service, totally unexpected & very kind! Enjoyed our stay here, perfectly located for getting around Bangkok, near the BTS & boats, great views across the river. Created a great start to our holiday travels.

The Krungthep wing of this hotel used to be the more exclusive, offering bigger rooms , seperate breakfast room and good bar and snack service. All this has gone and the Krungthep wing is just spare rooms for the main wing. No breakast , no service , balconies that can't be used because of the bridge noise and no flowers inside. It gives the impression of being almost dead . The main wing is relatively unchanged ; the lounge is one of the nicest in Bangkok and the restaurants all serve great food. There is still the ponderous check in and check out procedures. It is sad but it is only a shadow of what it used to be.

We just checked in, and this was by far the worst welcome I have ever experienced at a five-star hotel. Due to a flight delay in Los Angeles, we missed our first night. While I understand hotel policies, the complete lack of empathy or even a simple apology from the front desk after an exhausting journey was unacceptable. Our rooms were not connected as requested, no effort was made to resolve the issue, and no consideration was offered for the missed night. The receptionistโs cold and dismissive attitude made the experience even worse. As a person who manages staff, I find this level of service indefensible. A hotel of this caliber should prioritize professionalism, courtesy, and guest care. Unfortunately, this property failed on all counts.

Fully satisfied with our stay in premier balcony king room 818. The room was located at the end with surround big windows even in bathroom beside bathtub and a balcony with superb view, perfect! Plenty of lifts with short waiting time. Wide selection of breakfast with halal option and good variety seating choice. The Italian restaurant beside swimming pool served among the best pizza I ever tasted, crunchy thin crust, perfect to my liking.
Cons: The connection walk to Saphan Thaksin from Shangri-La Wing through Krungthep Wing, both indoor and outdoor were a miserable experience. The indoor walk was seamless but felt a bit underground while the outdoor walk was not clearly marked leading to dead ends and other facilities. The Krungthep Wing does not feels welcoming maybe due to underlit and choice of hard interior.

The hotel is located just next to Chao Phraya River and therefore one of the top locations in Bangkok. Furthermore a free shuttle service is offered for its guests to IconSiam - a quite impressive shopping center just on the other side of the river. Finally the hotel is perfectly connected via SkyTrain or public boat - Chao Phraya River Express - to the rest of Bangkok.

The Shangri-La is comfortable with a good breakfast. It's more like a good two or three star hotel due to cost cutting. For example, the bathroom does not have soap, so the bath is uesless unless you want to run to and fro to the shower for the liquid detergent. Also, fruit juice at breakfast is not fresh, I'm not even sure it is pure juice. There is some real juice outside but not much choice. Most of the rest of breakfast is good and it's good to see Shangri-La is still one of the few hotels to supply real bread. This isn't a bad notel it just isn't worth the price, it's on the river but there is no longer a promenade along the river front, just the hotel grounds.

Otherwise the sun renders them unusable, which is a pity because you have a great view on the river. I only had breakfast once, then went to a cafe nearby. Your buffet lunch was really, really, poor in terms of taste and freshness. I ate once there, then went to outside restaurants, which is a pity because you have a great view on the river.
Cons: The sound of the motorway/bridge was very annoying on the balcony, making the balcony unusable. In the night, I could hear it through the double glazing. When refurbishing, please install better triple glass insulation. The buffet lunch was really, really, poor in terms of taste and freshness. We ate once there, then went to outside restaurants, which is a pity because you have a great view on the river.

One of the highlights of my stay was breakfast in the tropical riverside garden. It is a pity that the hotel does not offer a watertaxi in the evenings, other hotels do offer this. Rooms were very good and spacious. We only booked breakfast and this was supercomplete. A very big buffet where there is food for all tastes.

My stay at Shangri-La Bangkok was critically disappointing, marked by operational failures and unacceptable room quality. The hotel prioritizes its own revenue over the guest experience by withholding vital information. Sadly was 5* but now all areas tired and in need of renovation. The room's physical condition is dilapidated and unacceptable for a 5-star hotel: staining and visible damage on wallpaper and painted surfaces; stained bathroom marble; no power plugs/USB ports near the bedside tables etc. Can hear kids in room next door. River View room but was told after check-in that I must keep the blinds closed all day for two days due to external drone surveillance. This restricted my paid-for view and constitutes a severe issue using the room. Furthermore, the pool was closed without prior notice afternoon for a private, paid event. The hotel accepted my reservation knowing they would deny access to to a view and pool without any prior warning. No appology and no reponse to my complaints on the first day. The hotel failed to deliver the services paid for due to these undisclosed restrictions and poor upkeep. Prospective guests should be aware of these issues as the hide issues from you prior to booking.

Couldn't beat the location for everything including the food court at Ma Bang Rak, tourist attractions, night markets and I could even walk to China Town (35 minutes). Breakfast was incredible. Real french croissants & brioche danishes made with real butter, plus real handmade ice cream/sherbets. Probably one of the most extensive and diverse breakfast buffets I have experienced. It was really a "brunch" buffet because they also offered sushi and tandori options. I could easily recommend and return. Nice to have a direct boat to IconSiem from the restaurant pier. The "second" wing is a little older, but the rooms are huge and closest to the BTS, the Pier and the food court. Very short walk to the primary building where the restaurant is, and the main pool, but the secondary pool is nice too and quieter.

Much livelier than last year, seems that they overcame the adverse effect of covid. Many in-house restaurants and ample small stools and restaurants serving good cheap food nearby.

The ferry service from outside the hotel was lovely and it connected us to the hotel we needed to go to for the wedding we were attending. The only frustration was getting a taxi. If you donโt book it ahead or on an app, they take forever coming to the hotel. One evening we waited half an hour for a taxi to show up. Unlike many other places they are not lined up outside hotels here in Bangkok. Overall a lovely stay with wonderful Asian hospitality.

We recently stayed at the Shangri-La Bangkok for two weeks. The entire hotel was beautiful and we loved the charm of the Krungthep wing where we chose to stay. The service was excellent from the concierge to the room attendants and the pool staff. Our only disappointment was that this wing of the hotel seems to have been forgotten. Although there were numerous places to sit and lounge in the lobby area, there were no places to get food or drinks without going to the other side of the hotel. It is a 5 star hotel, but there was only instant coffee provided in the room unlike other 5 star hotels that have a K-cup coffee machine or a Nespresso. They also need more staff. There were times that we left the room very early in the morning and our room had still not been cleaned by four o'clock in the afternoon when we returned hoping to clean up for dinner. Overall the hotel was very good with a great location near the BTS and Sathorn Pier.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel prior to our Asia cruise with Oceania. Our pre-booked room was a deluxe river view/balcony in the Krungthep Wing. A very comfortable check-in with engaging staff who were aware that we had lost 1 night stay due to Etihad transfer/late arrival in Abu Dhabi.bridge traffic. the room was well decorated with very large comfortable bed and as requested away from any noise from the bridge traffic. Our only complaint was that there were no brekfast facilities in this wing which resulted in a short walk thro the gardens or along the minor road to the main hotel. Again drinks were only served around the pool at main hotel building. We have stayed here a few times and would certainly revisit again. It was so convenient to take either the hotel's free shuttle boat to IconSiam or walk 5 mins to the boat station near MRT station.

Ik slaap regelmatig in fijne hotels. Voor een city trip Bangkok wilde ik een hotel op loopafstand van de metro en vooral een zwembad met hele dag zon. Goed bed, uitstekend personeel aan het zwembad en de lobby. Uitgebreid ontbijt. In de straat zitten een paar kleine restaurants. Goede uitvalsbasis om met ov of taxi op pad te gaan. I finally understand why many hotels use the motto โto make guests feel at home when they are far away.โ Unfortunately, my experience at Shangri-La Bangkok was the opposite. I felt disappointed, uncomfortable, and not welcomed at all. I previously worked on hotel projects, so I understand basic hospitality standardsโhow to treat guests with respect, how to communicate policies clearly, and how to make guests feel heard instead of intimidated. Policies are important, but there is always a polite and humble way to explain them. At Shangri-La, the way the team handled the situation felt rigid, one-sided, and almost like โtake it or leave it.โ Check-in Experience I arrived with my husband, who was on a business trip. The room booking was for one person, and we had no issue paying the appropriate charge for myself and my 13-year-old child. However, I was shocked when the front desk informed us that: The second guest must pay an additional fee . The third guest would be charged an even higher rate And we must take an extra bed, even though I clearly explained we did not need oneโonly additional breakfast for me and my son The manager (Ming) insisted that this was not possible. For a hotel of this level, the way this was communicated was disappointing. Room Rate Issue Before arriving, the sales had already agreed on the room rate and the extension. But at check-in, the front desk informed usโwith a very cold toneโthat the extension rate had increased. This was unexpected and unprofessional for a five-star property. Hospitality is the heart of a hotelโs longevity. Treating each guest with care, flexibility, and respect should be the foundation of service. Instead, it felt like they were trying to take advantage of the situation. The difference was only around THB 500 (about 250,000 IDR, USD 7, SGD 10, EUR 7), so the amount was not the issueโthe attitude and approach were. Shockingly, we spent almost one hour in intense negotiation just for this. Very rigid. Charges were calculated strictly โper headโ with no flexibility. Extension rate: originally agreed at THB 5,500 but suddenly increased to THB 6,000 upon arrival Snobbish communication style, giving the feeling of โIf you donโt like it, take it or leave itโ Revenue-driven approach, like OTA (Agoda/Booking) per-person charging, with no concern for guest comfort Only after the Assistant Director (Karnrawee) came did they finally remove the additional THB 500โafter long discussion Most staff, from junior to senior levels, seemed afraid to make decisions and showed no flexibility Old and Outdated Room Design; the property clearly needs refurbishment considering the high room rate Damaged bedsheet (a hole), which made us wonder if they were trying to blame guests Poor window insulationโnoise from the river boat party was very loud even from the 14th floor With such a reputation, I expected Shangri-La to deliver warm hospitality, flexibility, and a PROFESSIONAL guest-handling APPROACH. Instead, the experience felt rigid, unfriendly, and far below five-star standards. Out of all the many hotels we have stayed in, we never had a problem paying extra, even when there were strict policies. Most hotels offer added value or alternative benefits so guests can choose without feeling pressured or intimidatedโfor example, a room upgrade with extra privileges, or a little flexibility in the charges. But instead of offering options, Shangri-La pushed us into long negotiations over additional fees, which felt very uncomfortable. For a hotel known worldwide, this stay was truly a letdown. Shangri-La Bangkok canโand shouldโdo much better. We still had several nights ahead of us in Room 1424, but sadly with a constant feeling of discomfort and not being welcomed. This is something we never expected from a hotel of this level.

We had a long walk from the Kungstherp wing to the restaurant. It would have been nice if we could have the breakast in the hotel wing where we slept. Coming to the breakfast restaurant there was a long waiting line - too long.
Cons: There was a bad smell in our room when we arrived. The room was equiped with rather old carpets. Maybe they shoul be cleaned or replaced.

Let me first start by saying that the restaurant and pool staff at the hotel are kind and attentive and well deserving of a 5 star rating. My poor review begins with my check in. I booked my room approximately 8 months in advance and indicated at that time that I would like a late checkout. It was indicated that this would be possible and I was very pleased since my flight was not until midnight and the agent I spoke to on the phone told me the latest checkout would be 6pm. However upon checkin, I was told that I would not have a late checkout and that I would need to checkout by noon. I was surprised and disappointed since this left me many hours of free time where I was planning on relaxing before my long journey home. My biggest complaint, though, is the state of the actual room. For reference, I stayed in a riverview room in the Krungthep Wing (I believe the Shangri-La wing is more modern). Most of the outlets in my room were non-functional (I only had one working one), my tv barely worked, my toilet seat was crooked, wallpaper was cracking, and wifi needed to be reconnected every 10 minutes. The door to the balcony was loose so if I went outside, I needed to fashion a doorstop so I didnโt get locked out since the door would lock itself. I know some reviews will say this wing is โold styleโ but I think it is just old and needs some updating.

We have just enjoyed 3 amazing days in Bangkok. The Shanghai-La is a beautiful well maintained hotel in an excellent location for catching a boat to explore the riverside temples and sights. However it was the hotel staff who particularly shone, nothing was too much trouble, highlighted by Nick who was on the doors welcoming guest. He spotted that we had been waiting for a few minutes longer than would be expected. He called the company which had arranged our taxi which identified that the driver had cancelled the trip and another driver was required. A short while later a replacement taxi arrived and we were on our way home (sadly). Thank you Nick and all of your colleagues who made our stay so special.

My husband and I are visiting Thailand for our 20th wedding anniversary. We booked through Best at Travel. We stayed at the Shangri-la for 3 nights. When we arrived, we were greeted by their warm and efficient staff. Check in was smooth. We stayed in room 1528, which has a view across the Chao Phraya river. The room was very comfortable and spacious. They even left us a celebration gift and a note on the TV, very nice. Breakfast at the hotel is sumptuous, thereโs something for everyone! You can have ice-cream for breakfast if you fancy it. It can get busy at breakfast time, as itโs a large hotel. But itโs well managed. Thereโs a daily complimentary shuttle boat that takes you to and from, the Icon Siam shopping mall on the other side of the river. This is recommended. Alternatively, watching the boats traverse the river is also fun to watch. The hotel is also within walking distance to the BTS, so itโs well situated for travelling around. The doormen and Concierge are very helpful in getting you taxis and letting you know the appropriate fares, or advising on the best mode of transport for your trip about Bangkok. We throughly enjoyed our short stay here and would highly recommend it.

We had such a great stay at the Shangri-La Bangkok. The location right on the river is perfect, with lovely views and easy access all the main attractions. Breakfast was fantastic with loads of choice, and our room was really spacious with amazing river views. The staff were super friendly throughout our stay, and we loved using the hotelโs boat to pop over to ICONSIAM for shopping. Highly recommend if youโre visiting Bangkok.

They say you get what you pay for, well this proves it. While not cheap it earns its fee. A top hotel right on the river. We were there for two nights only but wished we had more. Having previously stayed in 5 and 4 star hotels in BKK this is up there with the best. We had a river view room and the view was indeed expansive. Room 1131 was a nice size with massive bed seemingly formed by joining two large doubles - in fact it was over three long pillows wide. There was a curved couch beneath the window so we could sit or lie there enjoying the vista. Plenty of wardrobes and large bathroom with both a bath and separate shower - with great water pressure. All mod cons - soaps lotions shampoos etc in easy to use ( and read!) dispensers. They even supplied toothpaste and brushes. The initial stock in the fridge wasnโt a lot but the first stock was complimentary. Breakfast either inside or out alongside the river was one of the most extensive weโve experienced. From local to western to Japanese and Indian it had a number of chefs and plenty of staff. Staff everywhere were friendly and helpful. I even used the outdoor spa in the wing next door - it was so strong it gave a-body massage effect. The hotel is almost alongside the overhead train transport station and next to the dock for numerous ferries river taxis and tourists boats, it also has its own shuttle boat that crosses over the river to the huge shopping complex, Icon Siam It has a number of restaurants and convention areas. We also made use of large street food mart next door for cheaper authentic Thai food and drinks The wifi is fast and free. A highly recommended hotel

We have for many years had two stays at Shangri-La twice a year. We have always wanted to stay in the Krungtep Wing and the Riverside Lounge. A few years ago, the Riverside Lounge was closed and replaced by Horizon. We feel that this has not been very successful. The staff at Horizon are friendly, but both the breakfast and other services have become worse and worse. Last Christmas, there was no room for everyone who had access to the Horizon lounge. Sunbeds and umbrellas by the pools are in very poor condition. The cushions on the sunbeds are not clean, are full of holes, and smell bad. Most of the sun loungers are worn out and uncomfortable to lie on. Breakfast in Next to is not particularly good compared to what you pay for a room at Shangri-La. At check-in at the Krungtep Wing, not all staff are equally friendly. Service has become worse and worse. It's a minor issue, but soaps, shampoo, etc., which used to be of good quality, have also been downgraded. In the rooms/bathrooms, there can be a smell of mold. It is sad that it has deteriorated so much at Shangri-La. We have always looked forward to going there. But now they only have the location left. As we see it, Shangri-La now does not deserve more than 3 stars. And it is relatively expensive for a hotel that feels like a three-star hotel. We stay in Bangkok two to three times a year and are now looking for another hotel after having stayed at Shangri-La many, many times.

Cons: The bedroom electrical points were outdated and lacking in number. It took some time to work out how to charge phones etc. The lack of C ports and international plug points was disappointing. The bed was extremely hard, making sleeping difficult. I asked for a topper to be placed on it which helped a little but the mattresses should be changed with something far more comfortable. Breakfast was ok. Lining up at breakfast at 6.30 am on the 1st day of a conference to get into breakfast was slow. There should have been more staff at the entrance seating the guests. Over the next few days this did not seem to improve.

Back in 2019 we visited Shangri-La and were mesmerized. I told my husband that this was a place we had to come back to and after traveling around the world over the past years and coming back this October I definitely have to repeat myself: it truly is one of the best hotels we have seen. The service is exceptional, from the moment you get off the car and your bags are taken care of, the Poitier opens the door and all you see is smiling faces. The welcome at the reception in the beautiful lobby makes you already feel that you've entered a special place. The rooms are beautiful, even if a bit older now, you can see how elegant this hotel is. The mesmerizing view over the river from the balcony took my breath away. Das Personal ist รคuรerst freundlich und aufmerksam - fรผnf Sterne! Eine Massage im Chi Spa bei Ya ist sehr zu empfehlen - groรartig!
Cons: Leider ist die Ausstattung in die Jahre gekommen. Man kรถnnte die Bรคder neu machen, die Spรผlung der Toilette hat nicht ganz funktioniert. Beim Drucken des Knรถpfes war die Hand nass, weil das Spรผlwasser ein Bisschen ausgelaufen ist. Das Shangri-La Team, hat zwar versucht es zu beheben aber es ist einfach alt und nach einem Tag ist es wieder passiert. Ansonsten, sehr schรถnes Zimmer und wundervolles Spa.

Rooms really old Looks like a 3 star hotel The rug was dirty, there was no convertor for the kettle and iron, no conectors on the night stands and when i move the table there was a cable mess The shower also old I will no recomend the hotel, the rooms looks like 1980s
