I have been staying at this hotel regularly over the past 15 years. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is charming, well-priced and well situated. (Close to great restaurants and cafes, two metro stations, Gare Monparnasse, Jardin de Luxembourg, 6th arrondissement shopping) Breakfast is quite good, with croissant, bread, and a pastry, yogurt, cheese, ham,if you want it, fruit, orange juice and coffee or tea) I rarely take the time to give reviews but want to do so for this hotel because I have stayed there many times and always enjoy my stay. Highly recommended.

We stayed in 2022 for a weekend and booked again for Christmas 2025. We enjoyed our stay very much. Room was clean and spacious. The only small thing was the mattresses were a little soft (but certainly not a big problem). The staff were friendly and very helpful. The open fire in the evenings was a treat. The breakfast was good. The location is excellent- a quiet area well served by the metro.

This was a wonderful place to stay! The staff was great, and we really enjoyed the french boutique feel of the place. The rooms were clean and spacious, and perfect for our needs. We enjoyed our little balcony as well to really make us feel the Parisian lifestyle! If you're looking for a good place to stay to feel like a local this is a great spot. With that said, you'll probably want to take the metro to visit most attractions (Eiffel Tower, l'arc de Triomphe, Galeries Lafayette, etc.). You can still definitely walk to the central attractions, it just might take around 20-30minutes (I love walking though because then you get to really take in the Parisian street scape and life!) The metro stop is literally right around the corner from the hotel which is really nice too!

This is a comfortable and stylish boutique hotel in a quiet but very convenient location close to the Jardins de Luxembourg and less than 15 minutes' walk from Gare de Montparnasse. Main areas are well-furnished and decorated with style. The bedrooms, too, are the same, and the bed was very comfortable. Staff are friendly, helpful and attentive.

Breakfast was a typical Parisian petit-dejeuner with more than enough to eat. It kept us going for the rest of the day. We appreciated the inclusion of fresh fruit and yogurt to complement all the carbs. All breakfast items were clearly chosen with care and from local providers. A tip top start to the day.

Recently stayed for four nights at Hotel Sainte Beuve. An older style hotel in a quiet street in a busy location close to Boulangeries, cafes, and small grocery stores. Communications good before we arrived and excellent service from Pema at reception (booking a taxi, recommending restaurants etc). Stored our luggage for the day when we had a late flight out of Paris with access to a bathroom. Hubbie also used the downstairs lounge to work in a few times which is very comfy (lounges/charis, fireplace, free tea/coffee after 11am). We had two connecting rooms on the 4th floor with a view over the street (travelled with hubby and young adult daughter). Fairly spacious for Paris standards with bathrooms with a bath, which we used after long days walking in Paris in the cold and rain. Extra furniture in the bedrooms which adds to the 'quaint' feel of the room/hotel, but is not serviceable and does just take up space. Lighting on the stairwell needs to be improved as it is quite dim. We had stayed in a similar priced hotel in the 6th (Odeon part) four weeks prior and found that location and value for money a little better. If you stay, try Moustache restaurant in the same street on the same side - amazing!

Great location for cafes, walking to the Luxembourg Gardens, Louvre and Musee d’Orsay. Everything we needed is close enough to walk and enjoy the sights. The hotel is charming and comfortable. Our room wasn’t large but it was manageable with all our luggage. The bathroom was very nice with a pretty bathtub. There is an elevator and lovely lounge to enjoy coffee and tea.

Hotel was very clean- warm and inviting- has an elevator and we had a room with balcony - neighborhood was relatively quiet at night, staff was great (front desk open 24 hrs)- Many MANY restaurants within walking distance. Major train hub 10 minute walk (Train to Lourdes and Versailles- day trips)- If you like to walk- Notre Dame- 30 minutes, Eiffel Tower ~45 Minutes, Louvre 35 minutes (Metro was also only 1 block away to travel by train if not walking). November weather was cool- but could get by with just a jacket or sweater. Evenings were very safe to walk at evening / night. Highly Recommended. *25 Wedding Anniversary*

And the beds were very comfortable (which is so important after long days of exploring Paris by foot). The hotel was conveniently located close to the Metro. We had lovely meals in the neighborhood. It is in a very nice, quiet location, but a close walk to restaurants, sights, and public transportation. The staff is endlessly kind, patient and helpful. What a fabulous hotel. In a quiet location a very short walk away from the Luxembourg gardens. The room we had was spacious by city standards, comfy seating and the bed was so good. The bathroom was lovely and again spacious. Everything spotlessly clean. Fresh still and sparkling water delivered daily to your room. The lounge area is comfy and cosy, hot drinks available from 11am. Didn't have breakfast but it looked nice and is served in the lounge area. The staff are all so lovely. We had to move our booking due to my daughters ill health and they were so helpful. They remembered to ask her how she was on arrival too which was kind. Their English was exceptional and they were happy and friendly at all times. The metro has 3 stations within a very short walk, depending on where you want to go, we used them all. We also walked from the hotel to the Saint Germain area and the river Seine beyond easily. The area was so quite at night so you are sure of a good night's sleep. It also felt really safe. There is a supermarket at the end of the road and a lovely Boulangerie on Rue Vavin on the way to the gardens too. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the area, there are tourists around but not so many and not so busy, something that appealed to us! We got a great 4 night deal, it's good value for money and we would definitely stay again if we come back to Paris. Thank you to all the staff at Hotel Sainte-Beuve, you helped make our stay the best it could be.

The hotel was very clean indeed but slightly tired and faded in places - the wardrobes in our rooms had chipped paint, for example. The breakfast is fairly perfunctory but OK. We'd stay again for the location and staff but probably not opt for breakfast included.

We stayed 4 nights in the junior suite w king bed. The room is very spacious and comfortable and quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful. Great location, tons of restaurant options nearby from casual to expensive. We liked the Vavin brasserie around the corner and the Moustache restaurant next door. The hallway rugs could stand to be replaced, I have a personal dislike of shampoo/conditioner combos, and having to keep your finger on the button of the hairdryer to keep it on was inconvenient. We stayed there 20 years ago, this week, and hopefully 20 years from now

Everything about our stay here was perfect. The welcome on arrival, holding on to our cases as we were there hours before check in so went off to explore. We had a balcony room and it was beautiful, the view of the Parisian street was so lovely. The staff were always so friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an ideal location near the metro and bus stops, but with lots of bars, restaurants and supermarkets. We would 100% recommend staying here. Thank you for a lovely stay

My friend and I had a perfect visit to Paris at this SUPERB hotel. The staff were so attentive and helpful, the clean room was a nice size which is rare for Paris. The beds were the most comfortable beds we have ever had in a hotel. Lovely clean bathroom with great shower. Bus, metros,cafes and shops right around the corner, direct to the Eiffel Tower. Walking distance to Notre Dame , Louvre and many other attractions. Train from airport went direct to the amazing Luxembourg Gardens and then a short walk to the hotel. Lovely quiet night sleep too. We will definately return to this hotel, it really is perfect to make the most of Paris.

Overall a very good stay – would recommend. The room size was surprisingly spacious for Paris standards – much larger than many other hotels I’ve stayed in. The bathroom was also quite big, which was a pleasant surprise. The interiors are beautifully designed with a luxurious touch, and the view from the window was stunning. We had a street view, just as I requested, and it truly added to the experience. The reception staff were excellent – professional, friendly, and very helpful. They spoke English well and assisted with anything we needed. Their warm attitude made us feel genuinely welcome. Five stars to the reception team! The location is perfect. There are a couple of supermarkets right next to the hotel – Monop is in the neighboring building, and Franprix is just downstairs (I recommend it). Two metro stations are just a 5-minute walk away, and there are several bus stops nearby. Getting around the city was very easy. Plus, Luxembourg Garden is right across the street – I absolutely loved that. Now to the downsides: There was no kettle in the room, which I found quite inconvenient. While complimentary tea and coffee are available in the lobby after 11 am, it’s still much more comfortable to have a kettle in the room, especially in the mornings or late at night. I really missed having one. (Removing 1 star for the kettle). Also, the room cleaning could use improvement. Sometimes the cleaner would forget to empty the bin or not replace used items. Of course, the reception staff would quickly resolve any issue when asked, but I do hope the hotel will work on improving their housekeeping. Overall, the stay was very enjoyable, and I would still recommend this hotel – especially for the spacious rooms, fantastic location, and outstanding front desk service. Just a kettle in the room would make it perfect.

Our room was breathtaking—a quintessential Parisian retreat, complete with antique-style furnishings, soft, harmonious textiles, and all the charm you'd hope for in a Left Bank boutique hotel. We loved the separate toilet and bath configuration, and the bathroom itself was luxurious: plush towels, a towel warmer, robe and slippers, and thoughtfully selected bath linens all contributed to the sense of refined comfort. We especially appreciated the lovely balcony, which offered the iconic Parisian experience we’d dreamed of - without the noise! It was surprisingly quiet despite the hotel’s central location. Each detail felt curated with care - from the classical music softly playing in the lift, to the gentle lighting and welcoming ambiance throughout the property. The continental breakfast each morning was a treat not to be missed: fresh-squeezed orange juice, perfect French pastries, and artisanal breads, all served in a cozy, intimate setting that felt like an elegant home. The neighbourhood itself is a dream - a perfect blend of calm and connection. With outstanding restaurants nearby (we highly recommend Moustache, located right next door), and easy access to both walking routes and metro lines, we found ourselves effortlessly exploring all corners of the city. Though we only stayed three short nights, the hotel began to feel like a small community, warm and familiar. We left feeling refreshed, spoiled, and utterly enchanted. A charming boutique hotel, oozing style and blessed with great service from attentive staff (who were helpful and informative even in the weeks prior to check-in). Continental breakfast is extremely generous for the price, with premium ingredients. Great for public transport links, or a pleasant 30’ walk to the river. Beds are very comfortable, decor is stylish. We had interconnecting rooms for a party of four. If both had been like the larger, street-facing, room this would have been a 5* review; the other was small - albeit typical perhaps for Paris - but very gloomy: dark paintwork and looking out into a shabby well formed by the surrounding buildings gave very little light. That was a shame but a forgivable one. Just make sure to book a street facing room.

First room had a ferret smell to it. Spoke to the front desk they upgraded us for one night then put us in a new room without the smell. It was quite clean and comfortable. Only recommendation I have; being aware of their environmental impact reduction stance, would be to uninstall the motion detection lights in the hall way. Sometimes when I was going in an out of the room I had a haunting feeling from how dark the hallway was. Overall good hotel great and understanding staff.

There were also several restaurants in the area. We did not take breakfast while at the hotel, mostly because we were feeling quite jet-lagged and would not have been able to get up in time.

My husband and I stayed for 8 nights and enjoyed every moment. The location is ideal for site seeing as you are steps from the metro lines 12 and 4. Plus the area is full of cozy restaurants without the touristy vibes. We loved getting Amorino gelato without ever waiting in line and then strolling to the gardens. The staff here organized our taxis and were attentive to every thing we needed including restaurant recommendations. The rooms are very comfortable for European standards and the bathrooms were luxurious - no squeezing into a shower stall. We profited from the free coffee in the lobby most days, but never tried the breakfast as there were many cafes in the area that we wanted to try. As others have mentioned, the hotel is very quiet and the beds comfortable.

Just returned yesterday from a 3 night stay. Loved it, can’t wait to return. Very clean, charming, our room was decent sized and well appointed. We stayed in a superior room with a balcony. Great price for a room with outdoor space. Good air conditioning and hot water and water pressure, very friendly and helpful staff. The location was perfect for strolls in Saint-Germain, Latin Quarter and Montparnasse. Métro is literally steps away so easy access to all of Paris. Safe, quiet and cute shops nearby. Yes the elevator is small and slow but it’s not a deal breaker unless you are in a rush, impatient or have difficulty navigating steps. It’s an old boutique hotel so I wasn’t expecting everything to be new but it all certainly exceeded my expectations.

We were lucky to have a balcony with a little patio table and two chairs. Very pleasant and obliging. Comfortable bed. Small but thankful elevator.

We have stayed at the hotel several times over the decades. It’s still on the charming side though it’s a little worn down (the lobby, the carpets in the rooms) and the rooms are small as is common in most Paris hotels (do not appreciate how the photos aren’t truthful re the size!) But the front desk help is good and always present and the location cannot be beat! Our bathroom was new and very nice.

This little boutique hotel was perfect for us. The lobby is warm and welcoming with someone to help 24 hrs a day. Breakfast was simple but convenient when we were in a rush. We ate out most mornings. Our room was small but had a double wardrobe to hang clothes so we unpacked and kept our suitcases in the corner. We had a large window that I loved keeping open to bring in the sounds of Paris. We had a nice deep tub to soak in after a long day. The neighborhood was more residential and perfect for us to escape the crowds of the tourist spots. Everything you could need from pharmacy, grocery, bakery, restaurants and a metro 1 block over. The queen sized bed was larger than we expected. I would recommend this hotel to those looking for a boutique style and not looking for big and fancy. It's quaint, warm and friendly.

Cons: This is my very first time to give rate and comments for bookings and I really have to say this, I am extremly disappointed. Honestly I was not suprised that the hotel locates in a old building and the room is small so make sense. BUT ABSOLUTELY WE HAD BEEN OFFENED. On the first night of arrival, the water sink in the bathroom was blocked and could not be used so my dad informed the reception, and the receptionist said ok we could get a upgrade for another room BUT WE NEEDED TO CHANGE IT BACK TO THIS ROOM FROM TOMORROW. Okay water sink issue was not a big problem, so we did switched back to it. But when we opened the curtain and guess what?? THERE WERE AT LEAST 10 MOTHS ON THE WALL WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY FREAKING OUT!!!!! We let the receptionist checked again and yes we did get a upgrade again, but you know what they say? WE NEED TO SWITCH BACK TO THIS ROOM AGAIN. Is this real for a 4-star hotel???????? I have never been treated like this from any 4-star hotel in my whole life and this whole stuff is just rubbish!!!! I will fetch the hotel office this week for my final bill during the stay because the price for the room is odd, it looks like they even charged me for that upgraded rooms of 2 nights which should be free of upgrade charge!!!!

I felt as though I had my own Parisian apartment for a week. Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, to breakfast hosts were kind and helpful. A lovely traditional French hotel in a great location within easy access to all the main tourist attractions of central Paris. Most were within a 30-45min walk. Plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants within a 5 min walk. Staff were very happy to help with restaurant and taxi bookings etc. A special thank you to Pema for all her help.

Cons: We were initially given a room right next to the lift which was a little noisy however, when we mentioned this to reception we were immediately moved to another, quieter room for the rest of our stay.

We are recently retired and finding ourselves with more time it seemed fitting that we should go back to the hotel were we had so many great memories. Fortunately we managed to get the same balcony room (room 22) and it was just perfect. If you want friendly service, a great location and cosy rooms this is the place to go.

The rooms were also decorated very nicely, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The neighbourhood is pretty, safe, and close to public transport so it's easy to get around as well.

We did enjoy the fact that it is a non-turistic Parisian neighbourhood so close to the main turistic attractions (metro) which letting you feel the Parisian daily life and habits The metro is just at the hotel corner. Room was small (for 2 bags) like most hotels in Paris but beautifully decorated. Only down side for a 4-stars hotel, the breakfast lack of variety, where and the way it is served. Would have prefered to have breakfast on a dedicated area, with a self-service option where I can serve myself and with more variety (eggs, sausage, cereals variety). Will definitely look forward to come back and do recommend.

The towels were old and frayed, the carpet was stained or dirty, the bathroom walls were dirty, and the shower curtain was also dirty. There was no hand soap or lotion in the bathroom; according to the front desk, these are only provided upon request. They don’t have key cards to access the rooms; instead, they give you a key with a large keychain, which must be left at the front desk when you leave because it is too inconvenient to carry. Breakfast is not included and costs 18 euros per person, which is not worth it, as it only includes a couple of breads, ham, a slice of cheese, coffee, a yogurt, and fruit. During breakfast, the tables are brought from somewhere and then removed when breakfast time ends. The waiter also acts as a bellboy and, during some shifts, works at the front desk. The air conditioning doesn’t work; according to them, it is not provided because it’s winter, and only heating is available, even though the room temperature is unbearable. A few days before, I stayed at a hotel in Rome where both options were available, even in winter.

This is a small, quaint boutique hotel in the 6th. Very quiet, excellent staff and within 10 minutes of boulangeries, patisseries and restaurants on Blvd. Montparnasse. Three minutes from a metro stop and Jardins de Luxembourg. Easy to catch G7(taxi) or Ubers. Very walkable. We look forward to our next visit! Please note- just like hotels in NYC- rooms are smaller than in the US, so plan accordingly!

The bathroom was a good size and very fashionable in white/black tile. The breakfast was very good. Baked goods, yogurt/granola/ fresh oj/fresh fruit/ham&cheese and assorted breads.Coffee/tea as well. All nicely fresh and enjoyable. Order the full breakfast. Remember to pay for breakfast to be included when you book your room! Otherwise, al a carte.

Cons: Our room was very small and faced the interior back, so dark. Not sure how the other rooms are situated. However, as I said earlier, the room was well decorated and the bed was comfortable. After all, you're not going to Paris to sit in your room!

Cons: There was no tea or coffee machine in the room which meant having to traipse downstairs to reception to use their machine there. The space for breakfast downstairs is so small that on the last two mornings we had to have it in our room as there was nowhere to sit. The rooms are a bit tired - the paint work in our bathroom was flaking away so a redecoration is needed.

First of all, excellent location and neighborhood, was a two minute walk from the metro and a ten minute walk from shops. The room was very clean and the area wasn’t too noisy. Staff were very kind and as two young girls we didn’t feel unsafe.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an old building with some nice charm. The bed was comfortable but I think it was two twins or doubles together or mattress topper because if you lay in the middle they separated slightly, so if you’re a middle sleeper just keep that in mind. The TV was rather small but desk space is nice for morning hair/makeup. They provide a vanity kit which nice, but you have to use the shower soap at the sink, would be nice to have a bar right there. The shower with a tub is nice, and the old style faucet is very charming. The proximity to the Luxembourg garden is convenient, with a cafe, grocery store, and pharmacy all across the street for anything you may need.

This hotel was in a great location. I could safely walk around everywhere. The Luxembourg gardens were very close by. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom/shower were clean and pretty big for Paris standards. The area was quiet at night which was nice. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the bed. The first room I was in was super uncomfortable, but I let the reception staff know and they quickly moved me. The other bed was better but still not very comfortable. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again! Merci beaucoup, Hôtel Sainte-Beuve!!

We have stayed in this hotel a couple times before due to its location.

Cons: I would class this as a 3 star. Sometimes the only lift is held by ? Cleaners and the spiral stairs are a lot to climb. In room 34 you can clearly hear the flush and water from above and room adjoining. The toilet in the room is tiny, if you were of a certain size you would find it difficult to get through the door. No tea/coffee machine/kettle in the rooms.

Ruhige Lage in einer Seitenstraße, sehr geschmackvolle Inneneinrichtungen, der Empfangsraum ,auch gleichzeitig Frühstücksbar, war einladend und entspannend mit einer geschickten Raumaufteilung, wobei das Hotel auf keinem großen Grundstück steht und 6 oder 7 Etagen hat. Unser Zimmer war zuoberst mit Schrägen. Auch hier wurde der Raum gut genutzt, auch wenn es für uns etwas eng war. Dennoch wogen die Details der Einrichtung, der hübsche Blick aus den Fenstern die Nachteile auf. Das Bad hat uns sehr gefallen, hell, sauber und gediegen. Das Frühstück war wunderbar, kein Buffet, sondern nach Wunsch zusammengestellt. Es wurde von dem immer sehr freundlichen Personal serviert. Auch hier waren viele kleine Details in der Präsentation, die die Freude am Aufenthalt erhöht haben. Die Conciergerie war ebenfalls höchst freundlich, charmant, man fand auch gelegentlich die Zeit zu einer kleinen Konversation und bekam, wenn man wollte, gute Tipps. Übrigens gibt es einen Lift, der angesichts des zwar sehr reizvollen, aber engen schneckenartigen Treppenhauses, vor allem nach einem reichhaltigen Abendessen in einem der zahlreichen in der Nähe befindlichen Restaurants, besonders attraktiv erscheint, wenn man weiter oben residiert. Alles in allem war es ein mehr als gelungener Aufenthalt und wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen. Herzliche Grüße

Hello, I stayed at Hotel Sainte Beuve from 20 to 23 February. The hotel was advertised as 4 stars but all in all does not deserve even 3 stars. The rooms were dirty, the facilities were old and needed a revamp. The room was cold and the heating was not working properly. I went with my 7-month-old baby and in the elevator was not even space for the cot...we had to take the baby and carry her in the lift waking her up every time if she was sleeping. The bathroom was cold as the window did not close properly plus the sink in the bathroom was clogged the first day, which is insane for a 4 star hotel. We only had breakfast once and they had the courage to charge 18 euros for a miserable and small breakfast, with only fruit, a small yogurt and coffee.. only a la carte, served in the hotel reception, not even in a dedicated room.This hotel was expensive. I had to pay for my upgrade for the deluxe room which i regret so much and the taxes at the hotel more than 130 euro ....at the end this hotel was really expensive but it is not worth a penny. The staff at the reception is ok but when I asked about some free bath products they did not know what I was talking about...in a 4 star hotel..I did not even find a hand soap in the room...I feel like I have been robbed of my money. The room was not clean I found other people hair on the pillow the first day I got in....nothing screamed 4 star in there, max was a 3 star stay...very disappointed, dont be deceived from the pictures online

We ordered room service breakfast for 2 out of the 4 nights we stayed there and it was very good. Excellent croissants! Excellent coffee! Excellent cappuccinos! The staff was wonderful! All and all a top notch stay! We would highly recommend!

We were travelling with two teenagers so were looking for a hotel with a "family room." This was essentially 2 adjoining hotel rooms with a central entry - one with 2 twins and its own bathroom along with another with a queen and bathroom. The hotel is on a quiet street within easy walking distance of two metro lines (Notre Dame des Champs and Vavin). There are a number of good restaurants in the neighborhood. The front desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful in giving directions and recommendations. We did opt to include breakfast in our reservation. This included a basket of breads and croissants, a bowl of citrus fruits, and beverage. The lobby, although small, is welcoming and warm. We were happy with our stay.

I’ve been going to Sainte Beuve for years. It’s still a cozy little hotel I absolutely enjoy. The bedding is perfect. The room is very pleasant. Probably need a refresh soon but still very good for the price. Till next time :)

The hotel is in a nice neighborhood within walking distance to many restaurants/cafes, and right outside of Jardin du Luxembourg. Hotel lobby is cozy and vintage. There is a coffee machine where you can make some coffee and sit by the fireplace. Our room was beautiful and spacious for Paris standards. The superior room has a lovely balcony with two doors. The toilet is in a separate room with the sink/shower which is a big plus for 2 people sharing the room. Really love the hotel and will be on the top of our list when coming back to Paris.

We LOVE in this hotel and always stay here when coming to Paris. The value for money is just great as you won't normally get this level of service and comfort for such price in Paris. Staff are super friendly and professional and they always give great, concierge-level advice. Rooms and lobby are decorated with so much taste and attention to detail. The location is super convenient, close to the best restaurants, Jardin du Luxembourg and nice shopping areas yet away from the tourist crowds.

Cons: This may sound stupid, but the only thing we really dislike is the smell of the shower gel :)

Wonderful, helpful staff always patient and willing to help with questions or requests. Beautiful, typical french boutique hotel. Loved having the full window that opens to get a view and feel of the street and neighnorhood. Very homey feel.

Cons: Room was quite small, but that is often typical of older french hotels, so to be expected. Would be wonderful if breakfast was included in order to increase value of the stay, and/or if there was a coffee maker in the room.

We arrived early and Tapas was so helpful and friendly to hold our luggage till check-in time. The location is super convenient for public transportation and at the same time in a quiet street. There's a Monoprix just around the corner that is a life saver for snacks and drinks and little things you forgot to bring. But the super star for me was the shower! I have travelled a lot and this is the BEST shower I have ever had! Lots of water with just the right amount of pressure!!!! It was heaven to shower after a long day strolling the streets of Paris and visiting the beautiful city. I would definitely stay here again!
